Scope This document outlines methods of application of mechanical shock (impulse) excitation to electronic

、 tubes and valves. The methods are based on current practice of the application of shock. The document should not be regarded as a Recommendation in the sense of a standard because a more detailed description of the equipment is needed if measuring results are to be comparable within definite tolera

、nces. 2. Definition of shock For the purpose of this document shock is defined as mechanical excitation of a single pulse or damped train of pulses of acceleration. 3. Method of application of shock Typical methods used for the application of mechanical excitation are described in Appendix A. 4. Con

、ditions of application of shock 4.1 Excitation impulses are applied to the tube or valve in four directions successively, Le. : 4.1.1 With the main axis of the tube or valve and the major cross-section of the electrode assembly at right angles to the direction of the accelerating force; 4.1.2 With t

、he main axis of the tube or valve at right angles to and with the major cross-section of the electrode assembly parallel to the accelerating force; 4.1.3 With the main axis of the tube or valve parallel to the direction of the accelerating force and with the principal base of the tube or valve facin

、g the accelerating force; 4.1.4 With the main axis of the tube or valve parallel to the direction of the acceleratiiig force and with the principal base of the tube or valve facing away from the accelerating force. 4.2 The tube or valve to which the shock is to be applied is suitably clamped so that

、 the shock is transmitted to the whole tube or valve. It must not be applied via the base pins only. This may be achieved either by clamping the tube or valve or by embedding in wax in a rigid container. Care must be taken to assure proper transmission of shock to the tube or valve. 5. Measuring con

、ditions 5.1 Tubes and valves are subjected to shock in accordance with the defined conditions which may be as follows : a) with the tube or valve cold, i.e. no voltages applied; -6- b) c) avec application aux lectrodes de tensions dfinies; avec application de la tension de chauffage requise, des ind

、des erreurs de mesure. b) c) with defined voltages applied to the electrodes; with the required filament or heater voltage applied and short-circuit indicators connected to the varioiis electrodes (see Appendix B). 5.2 Relevant tube and valve characteristics may be measured before, during and after applying the shock. It is normal to make some allowance to the post-shock Characteristics in order to take account of slight deterioration and/or measurement errors. -8- ANNEXE A APPAREILLAGE POUR APPLIQUER LES CHOCS MCANIQUES (IMPULSIONS) 1.
