1、Designation: C1384 181Standard Specification forAdmixtures for Masonry Mortars1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C1384; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parent

2、heses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1NOTEAnnex reference corrections for Test Method C780 were editorially made in December 2018.1. Scope*1.1 This specification pertains to admixtures for masonrymort

3、ars. Admixtures are substances other than SpecificationC270 prescribed materials of water, aggregate, and cementi-tious materials that are used to improve one or more of therecognized desirable properties of conventional masonry mor-tar.1.2 This specification does not cover coloring pigments.NOTE 1I

4、nformation on coloring pigments can be found in Specifica-tion C979/C979M.1.3 This specification does not cover additives that areadded to the cementitious materials during the manufacture ofthe cementitious materials.1.4 Acceptance of an admixture is based on its performancein an admixed mortar. Ac

5、ceptance of the admixed masonrymortar is based on attainment of performance either equivalentto that required for conventional mortar or improved perfor-mance of one or more indicated properties, while maintainingrequired performance levels for other properties.1.5 The values stated in SI units are

Many ofthese properties have defied exact laboratory measurement. The mason can best assess workability by observing theresponse of the mortar to the trowel and the masonry unit. Forfurther discussion on workability, see the Appendix of Speci-fication C270.

21、4. Classification4.1 Admixtures are classified by their effect on the perfor-mance characteristics of conventional masonry mortars. Ad-mixed mortars are classified by their modified properties, ascompared to a reference mortar. The following classificationsare recognized:4.1.1 Bond Enhancer.4.1.2 Wo

Chemical Composition6.1 The admixture shall not react adversely with embeddedor attached materials common to masonry.NOTE 3Currently, there is no standard test method for determining

24、 thecorrosion potential of masonry mortars toward embedded and attachedmaterials. Nonetheless, the admixture shall not be offered for sale if themanufacturer has evidence that the admixture does react adversely withembedded or attached materials common to masonry.6.2 At the maximum recommended dosag

Physical Properties7.1 All modified mason

26、ry mortars shall comply with theproperty specification requirements of Specification C270.Inaddition, the admixed mortars shall conform to all of thespecific classification requirements in Table 1 for which theadmixture is obtaining qualification. Unless more specimensare required by a specific test

27、 method, a minimum of threespecimens shall be tested and the results averaged. These resultaverages shall meet the requirements of this section.7.2 Admixture compliance tests shall be the responsibilityof the manufacturer of the admixture. These compliance testsshall be completed within the past fiv

Theadmixture dosage rate, time of addition, and mixing sequenceshall follow the manufacturers recommendations.8.3 A complete set of tests shall be run for all applicablecement/lime, mortar cement, and masonry cement
