1、Designation: D5052 18Standard Test Method forPermeability of Leather to Water Vapor1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D5052; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in p

2、arentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the U.S. Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1 This test method covers the determination of the perme-abili

3、ty of leather to water vapor by measuring the rate at whichwater vapor passes through a test specimen. This test methoddoes not apply to wet blue.1.2 The values stated in either inch-pound or SI units are tobe regarded separately as standard. The values stated in eachsystem may not be exact equivale

4、nts, therefore, each systemshall be used independently of the other. Combining valuesfrom the two systems may result in nonconformance with thestandard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of thi

Place the templateflat on the specimen and center as nearly as possible with thecup. Apply a slight pressure to the template to ensure goodcontact between

17、the rim of the cup, the specimen, and thetemplate around the entire rim. Fill the groove formed by thelip of the cup and the edge of the template with melted wax thatis allowed to harden before the template is removed. (Theremoval of the template from the hardened wax is facilitated byapplying a coa

If using mechanically sealed cups, ensure that the caps are adequately tight to prevent leakage.7.3 Place the complete assembly in the constant temperatureand humidity chamber, specimen side up.Adjust the air flow sothat the vel

This will be considered the “initial weight.” Shake theassembly after weighing to redistribute the surface of thedesiccant. (The assembly shall preferably be weighed in theconsta

20、nt temperature and humidity chamber. If this is notpossible, the assemblies can be removed and weighed one at atime, provided they are returned to the chamber in 2 min orless.) Weigh the assembly at 1h intervals shaking the assem-bly after each weighing until three or more successive weigh-ings show

21、 weight increases that are equal within 0.02 g. (Theweighing intervals can be extended longer for specimens withlow permeability.) Total time should be no less than 4 h and notmore than 24 h. The last weighing will be recorded as the “finalweight.”8. Calculation8.1 Calculate the permeability to wate
