Scope*1.1 This specification covers structural quality alloy steel

3、plates.1.2 The plates are usually specified to chemical compositionrequirements, but tensile properties may also be specified.1.2.1 When tensile properties are required, the specificrequirements must be compatible with the chemicalcomposition, condition, and plate thickness.1.3 The plates are availa

4、ble in the following five conditions:1.3.1 Condition ARAs rolled (hot rolled),1.3.2 Condition AAnnealed,1.3.3 Condition NNormalized,1.3.4 Condition NTNormalized and tempered, and1.3.5 Condition QTQuenched and tempered.1.4 The plates are available in the following three forms:1.4.1 Form IRectangular,

5、1.4.2 Form IICircular and semi-circular, and1.4.3 Form IIISketch, including rings.1.5 The plates are available in the following five edgecategories:1.5.1 Edge 1Mill edge,1.5.2 Edge 2Universal mill edge,1.5.3 Edge 3Sheared edge,1.5.4 Edge 4Gas cut edge, and1.5.5 Edge 5Special cut edge.1.6 The plates

6、are available in the following seven finishes:1.6.1 Finish 1As rolled (hot rolled),1.6.2 Finish 2Blast cleaned,1.6.3 Finish 3Blast cleaned and oiled,1.6.4 Finish 4Pickled,1.6.5 Finish 5Pickled and oiled,1.6.6 Finish 6Painted, one prime coat, and1.6.7 Finish 7Painted, one prime coat and one finish co

7、at.1.6.8 The plates are usually specified to have Finish 1.1.7 Supplementary requirements are provided for additionalrequirements that may be specified on the order.1.8 When the steel is to be welded, it is presupposed that awelding procedure suitable for the grade of steel and intendeduse or servic

8、e will be utilized. See Appendix X3 of Specifica-tion A6/A6M for information on weldability.1.9 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used indepen

9、dently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.10 This international standard was developed in accor-dance with internationally recognized principles on standard-ization established in the Decision on Principles for theDevelopment of Intern

Materials and Manu

17、facture4.1 The steel shall be made to fine grain practice, unlesscoarse austenitic grain size is specified in the purchase order.4.2 The plates shall be furnished in the condition specifiedin the purchase order.4.2.1 Plates specified to be furnished in a heat-treatedcondition shall be heated to a su

18、itable temperature at or abovethe upper critical temperature, but not exceeding 1700F925C, held a sufficient length of time to attain essentiallyuniform temperature throughout, and cooled as appropriate forthe condition specified.4.3 EdgeUnless otherwise specified on the order, Edge 3shall be furnis

19、hed; provided, however, that Edge 4 may befurnished in place of Edge 3 at the suppliers option.4.4 FinishThe plates shall be furnished with a finish asspecified on the order.4.5 Repair by Welding:4.5.1 Repairs by welding shall be performed by competentwelders using low-hydrogen electrodes selected s

20、o that thechemical composition of the deposited weld metal is similar tothe nominal composition of the base plate.4.5.2 If repair by welding is not acceptable, or if approval ofthe welding procedure by the purchaser is required, the ordershall so specify.5. Chemical Composition5.1 The heat analysis

21、shall conform to the requirements forthe applicable grade listed in Table 1, unless otherwise speci-fied as in 5.2.5.2 The chemical composition for heat analysis may bespecified in accordance with the ranges and limits listed inTable 2. In such instances, the heat analysis shall conform tothe requir

22、ements specified on the order.6.
