It is usedto determine the useful life of such markings in the field. Thesame procedures are applicable to evalu

Type and Location of Pavement for Tests4.1 Select sections where traffic is moderate and free-rollingwith no grades, curves, intersections, or access points nearenough to cause excessive braking or turning movements, where wear is uniform with full

Select surfaces thatare representative of the pavements upon which the fluid trafficmarking material will be used in practice. Such surfacesinclude portland cement concrete, sheet asphalt, bituminousconcrete, rock asphalt, an

Conditions at Time of Application5.1 Clean the test area thoroughly of all foreign material.Follow the pavement marking manufacturers recommendationfor the application of the pavement marking to be tested. Thisshould include the recommendations for air and pavementt

The machine must be capable of setting and

High build water bourne paints, epoxies, modifiedepoxies, polyurea, Methacrylate, and other exotic materialstested shall be applied at the rate recommended by themanufacturer with a 15 mil minimum. The minimum thicknessfor thermoplastic material tested shall be 30 mil. If thepavement markin

Formaterials applied by any other means the thickness shall bechecked by instrument. Thickness will be determined by use ofa test panel and a micrometer or magnet

Measurement of Glass Beads7.1 After the completion of 6.1, apply another test line to atared panel with the motorized striper, this time also adding theglass beads, and weigh immediately. The weight differencebetween this measurement and that in 6.1 gives the amount ofg

The process can be repeated if an adjustment inthe bead application rate is needed. The weight of applied g

30、ll be applied to the pavement markings. The coating on thebeads shall be specified by the purchaser and shall be noted aspart of the test report. For standard traffic paint applied at 15wet mil the glass beads shall be applied at a rate of 6 poundsper gallon (6 lbs/100 ft2) and will be supplied by t

The testing agency will provide quality control testresults for the beads provided.7.3 Use of special beads or other retroreflective optics maybe applied at the manufacturers recommended application rateand method. If this is to be done the manufacturer shall providethe recommended

32、 application methodology, and applicationrate in the form of weight per unit area (such as lb/100 ft2) foreach bead or retroreflective optic that is to be used. Themanufacturer shall also provide the technical information forthe material being used to include such things as materialdescription, pert

This information shall be available as part ofthe report.7.4 If the bead or reflective optic application can be con-trolled then the actual bead application rate shall be determined

34、and included as part of the report. If the rate cannot beconsistently controlled then the beads or reflective opticsshould be applied in such a manner to fully saturate (flood) themarking and this should be reflected in the report.8. Application Procedure8.1 Apply the test stripes at the required wi

35、dth and trans-versely on the road. At the option of the purchaser, the teststripes may be applied to the pavement at an angle of 45 to thedirection of the traffic, or longitudinally in each wheel path, inorder to increase the area of contact with traffic. If the markingsare to be applied in a longit

A tared panel as used inthe measurement of glass beads (see 7.1) should be placedbetween the wheel track of one lines application as a doublecheck for material and glass bead application rates. Weigh

39、tsbetween this reading and that found in 7.1 should agree within0.5 g. The purchaser may wish to place another smaller panelbetween the wheel tracks to retain for future reference. Thethickness of samples shall be checked within the first three footsection of the test lines.8.4 For standard traffic

The standard glass beads aresupplied by the purchaser.NOTE 2If no bead application rate is specified, 6.0 lb/gal (6 lb/100 ft2)of paint that is applied at 15 mil is recommended.8.8 If special beads or other retroreflective optics are usedper the manufacturer

The evaluations willbe made at the eighteen (18) in. length of line centered on theleft wheel track area (w

47、heel track) and nine (9) in. from theskip line area (centerline). The centerline can further be locatedas the area to the left of the left wheel path in the last nine (9)in. of the line.9.2 Auto-No-Track TimeThe auto no-track time is deter-mined by passing over the freshly applied line in a simulate

A line showing no visualpick-up and redeposition of the materials onto the pavementsurface when viewed from a distance of 15 m (50 ft) in thehighway direction is considered as showing no pick-up andconforming t

49、o the drying time requirements.9.2.1 The test line is applied at the same temperature, thesame wet film thickness, and the same rate of glass beads aswill be specified by the purchaser in production application.9.2.2 The no-track maximum time is measured when thepavement temperature is from 15 to 50C (60 to 120F) andunder local humidity conditions, providing that the pavement isdry.9.3 AppearanceThe impression of the observer of thegeneral condition of the test lines when viewed without anydetailed inspection, from a distance of at least 10 ft.
