19、ology D1600, unless otherwise indicated. The abbrevia-tion for poly(vinyl chloride) plastics is PVC.3.2 Definitions:3.2.1 PVCO pipeabbreviation for oriented poly(vinylchloride) plastics. PVCO pipe is PVC pressure pipe whichattains a relatively high strength by reorienting the molecules.Conventionall
20、y extruded PVC pipe is expanded circumferen-tially (for example, 2-in. diameter is expanded to 4-in. diam-eter) through the application of pressure and temperature. Theexpansion reorients the PVC molecular structure in the hoopdirection, thereby increasing the material strength.3.3 Definitions of Te
21、rms Specific to This Standard:3.3.1 expansion ratio (ER)the ratio of the finished PVCOpipe outside diameter to the outside diameter of the originalstarting stock.3.3.2 standard thermoplastic pipe material designationcodethe molecularly oriented poly(vinyl chloride) materialsdesignation code shall co
22、nsist of the abbreviation PVCO forthe type of plastics, followed by the ASTM type and grade inarabic numerals and the hydrostatic design stress in units of100 psi (0.69 MPa) with any decimal figures dropped. TheASTM type and grade shall be that of the starting stockmaterial. The hydrostatic design s
23、tress shall be that of thefinished PVCO pipe.3.3.2.1 DiscussionA complete material designation codeshall consist of four letters and four figures (for example; aPVCO pipe manufactured from 12454 (Type 1, Grade 1)material starting stock and having an HDB of 7100 psi (48.92MPa) HDS of 3550 psi) (24.46
24、 MPa) will have a materialdesignation code of PVCO 1135).3.3.3 starting stockthe conventionally extruded PVC pipeof uniform wall thickness which will be expanded to a largerdiameter, molecularly oriented pipe.3.3.4 wall-thickness-ratio (WTR)the ratio of the finishedproduct wall thickness to the wall

Classification4.1 GeneralThis specification covers PVCO made fromPVC plastic pipe, starting stock, having a hydrostatic designstress of 2000 psi (13.78 MPa) determined in accordance withTest Method D2837. Finished PVCO pipe shall have a hydro-static design stress o
26、f 3550 psi (24.46 MPa) determined bytesting in accordance with Test Methods D1598, with dataevaluated in accordance with Test Methods D2837,asin6.3.2.5. Materials5.1 GeneralPoly(vinyl chloride) plastics used to makePVCO pipe meeting the requirements of this specification arecategorized by means of t
27、wo criteria, namely (1) short-termstrength tests; and (2) long-term strength tests.5.1.1 Supplementary RequirementThis applies whenevera regulatory authority or user calls for the product to be used toconvey or to be in contact with potable water. Potable waterapplications products intended for cont
28、act with potable watershall be evaluated, tested, and certified for conformance withANSI/NSF Standard 61 or the health effects portion of NSFStandard No. 14 by an acceptable certifying organization whenrequired by the regulatory authority having jurisdiction.5.2 Basic MaterialsThis specification cov
29、ers PVCO pipemade from PVC compounds having certain physical andchemical properties as described in Specification D1784.5.3 The PVC compound used for the starting stock of thispipe shall equal or exceed the following cell classificationdescribed in Specification D1784: PVC 12454 (Type 1, Grade1). Re
30、cycled materials shall not be used in the compound.5.4 Rework MaterialsClean, rework material, generatedfrom the manufacturers own pipe production, shall be permit-ted to be used by the same manufacturer, as long as the pipeproduced meets all the requirements of this specification.5.5 Solvent Cement
31、the solvent cement shall meet therequirements of Specification D2564 and be marked for usewith PVCO pipe.5.6 PrimerThe primer shall meet the requirements ofSpecification F656 and be marked for use with PVCO pipe.6. Requirements6.1 GeneralThese requirements are for finished PVCOpipe, unless otherwise
32、 noted.6.2 Dimensions and Tolerances:6.2.1 Outside DiametersThe outside diameters and toler-ances shall be shown in Table 1 and Table 2 when measured inaccordance with Test Method D2122. 36、lification ofthe compound and extrusion process, not for quality control.6.3.1 Sustained PressureThe sustained pressure test shallbe completed for each diameter at initial start-up. Thereafter, itshall be completed whenever there is a change in the ER(3.3.1), or the WTR (3.3.4), or whenever a change
37、 is made tothe compound which is outside the allowable limits of thePlastics Pipe Institute PVC compound range formula (see PPITR-3). The pipe shall not fail, balloon, burst, or weep asdefined in Test Method D1598 at the test pressures given inTable 7 when tested in accordance with 7.4.6.3.2 Regress
38、ion TestThis test shall be completed on arepresentative diameter at initial start-up. A representativediameter is one which has an ER, a WTR, and a compoundwhich is the same as the other diameters manufactured.Thereafter, it shall be completed on a representative diameterwhenever there is a change i
39、n the ER or the WTR, or whenevera change is made to the compound which is outside theallowable limits of the Plastics Pipe Institute PVC compoundrange formula (see PPI TR-3). The test shall be conducted inaccordance with 7.5.6.3.2.1 The pipe shall demonstrate a minimum hydrostaticdesign basis projec
40、tion, at the 100 000-h intercept, of 6810 psi(46.92 MPa) (for Hydrostatic Design Basis Categories, seeTable 1 of Test Method D2837).6.3.3 Long-Term Hydrostatic Strength Test for Solvent Ce-mented JointsSolvent cemented joints of pipe shall beassembled in accordance with Specification D2855 and teste
41、dfor long- term hydrostatic strength for each diameter at initialstart-up. Thereafter, it shall be completed whenever there is achange in the ER (3.3.1), or the WTR (3.3.4), or whenever achange is made to the compound which is outside the allowablelimits of the Plastics Pipe Institute PVC compound r
42、angeformula (see PPI TR-3). The joint shall not fail, balloon, burst,weep, leak or pull apart while subjected to a sustained pressureof 2 times the pressure rating of the pipe for continuous servicefor 1000 hours at at 73.4 6 3.6F (23 6 2C).6.4 Quality Control TestsThese tests are intended toensure
43、the quality of the finished pipe product.6.4.1 Burst PressureThe minimum burst pressure forPVCO pipe shall be as given in Table 8, when determined inaccordance with 7.6.6.4.2 FlatteningThere shall be no evidence of splitting,cracking, or breaking when the pipe is tested in accordancewith 7.7.6.4.3 E
44、xtrusion QualityThe starting stock pipe shall notflake, crack, or disintegrate when tested in accordance withTest Method D2152.6.4.4 Impact ResistanceThe minimum impact resistancefor PVCO shall be as given in Table 9, when determined inaccordance with 7.8.NOTE 1The impact resistance test is intended
45、 for use only as aquality-control test, not as a simulated service test. This test has beenfound to have no quality-control significance in sizes over 12 in. (300mm).6.4.5 Workmanship, Finish, and AppearanceThe pipeshall be homogeneous throughout and free from visible cracks,holes, foreign inclusion
46、s, or other defects. The pipe shall be asuniform as commercially practicable in color, opacity, density,and other physical properties.NOTE 2Color and transparency or opacity should be specified in thecontract or purchase order.7. Test Methods7.1 ConditioningCondition the test specimen at 73.4 63.6F
