、Designation: A599/A599M 07 (Reapproved 2017)Standard Specification forTin Mill Products, Electrolytic Tin-Coated, Cold-RolledSheet1This standard is issued under the fixed designation A599/A599M; the number immediately following the designation indicates the yearof original adoption or, in the case o

、f revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.A superscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers cold-rolled steel sheet in coilsor in cut lengths, tin-coated by ele

、ctrodeposition. The productis commonly known as electrolytic tin-coated sheet, and is forapplications that need good solderability, good surfaceappearance, and a degree of corrosion resistance. Tin-coatedsheet is produced to various designations of tin coating, asoutlined in Table 1.1.1.1 Electrolyt

、ic tin-coated sheet is customarily availableas commercial steel (CS); drawing steel (DS); deep drawingsteel (DDS); extra deep drawing steel (EDDS), and structuralsteel (SS). The tin coating is available as unmelted or melted.1.2 LimitationsThis specification is applicable to orders ineither inch-pou

、ct shall be furnished to inch-pound units. The valuesstated in either inch-pound or SI units are to be regarded asstandard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents;therefore, each system must be used independently of the other.Co

、initions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.1.1 chemical treatmenta passivating chemicaltreatment, normally applied to the tinned surface to stabilizethe surface to control tin oxide formation and growth. Sodiumdichromate is most commonly used. Without such treatment, severe tin oxide growth, and i

If a specialsurface treatment is required, it should be negotiated with thesupplier.3.2 Finishes:3.2.1 No. 5 Finisha shot-blasted and/or otherwise texturedroll bas

、3.2.2.1 DiscussionIt is possible to produce either No. 5 orNo. 7 Finish as unmelted or melted; however, end applicationis important and should be negotiated with the producer.3.3 melted tin coatingtin coated by electrodeposition on abase steel normally having a ground-roll finish (see 3.2), andthen

、melted to reflow the tin. The resultant coating has abrighter appearance than unmelted tin. An iron-tin alloy layeris developed during the melting operation, thus reducing theamount of free tin available. Due to the limitations of thereflow section of the plating lines, certain thicknesses may notbe

、 available with a melted finish.3.4 oilan extremely thin oil film furnished on both sur-faces of tinned sheet to minimize abrasion in shearing, coilingor uncoiling, shipping, and handling. Usually dioctyl sebecate(DOS) or acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC) is used. Surface activeagents such as glycerol

、mono-oleate may be incorporated intothe lubricant for application on tinned sheet. Oil film other thannormal should be negotiated with the producer. The oil film isnot a drawing lubricant.3.5 unmelted tin coatingtin-coated by electrodepositionon a base steel normally having a dull, blasted-roll surf

、acetexture (see 3.2). The deposited tin also has a dull grayappearance.4.
