Scope1.1 This specification covers polyvinyl chloride and otherconforming organic polymer-coated steel cha

3、in-link fabric,coated before weaving. Polyvinyl chloride, polyolefin, andother organic polymer coating hereinafter will be designated aspolymer coating.1.2 Fabric produced from three classes of wire coatings arecovered as follows:1.2.1 Class I consists of polymer coatings extruded overzinc-coated, a

4、luminum-coated, or zinc-5 % aluminum-mischmetal alloy-coated, or zinc-5 % aluminum-mischmetalalloy-coated steel wire.1.2.2 Class 2a consists of polymer coating extruded andadhered to zinc-coated, aluminum-coated, or zinc-5 %aluminum-mischmetal alloy-coated steel wire.1.2.3 Class 2b consists of polym

5、er coating fused andadhered to zinc-coated, aluminum-coated, or zinc-5 %aluminum-mischmetal alloy-coated steel wire.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard. Ordering Information4.1 Orders for chain-link fence fabric purchased to thisspecification shall include the following information:4.1.1

10、 Quantity.4.1.2 Class of polymer coating to be applied to the metallic-coated core wire.4.1.3 Color of coating (see 16.5.1).4.1.4 Size of mesh (see Table 1).4.1.5 Diameter of metallic-coated core wire or minimumbreaking strength, or both (see Tables 1-3).4.1.6 Height of fabric.4.1.7 Type of selvage

11、if nonstandard (see 12.1 and 12.2).4.1.8 Diamond count if nonstandard (see 9.1 and Table 2).4.1.9 Certification, if required.4.2 Any tests required other than those specifically coveredin this specification must be stipulated by the purchaser in theorder or contract.1This specification is under the

16、cepted by the purchaser shall bebilled to him on the basis of the original footage of the rollsbefore sampling, unless changed by contractual agreement.5. Materials5.1 Base MetalThe base metal shall be steel of suchquality and purity that, when drawn to the size of wire specifiedand coated with an o

17、rganic polymer, the finished fencing shallbe of uniform quality and have properties and characteristics asprescribed in the specification.5.2 Wire used for the manufacture of fabric shall meet therequirements of this specification and shall be capable of beingwoven into fabric without the polymer co

18、ating cracking orpeeling. The polymer coating shall be formulated and producedproperly to conform to the requirements of this specification.6. Manufacture6.1 Class 1 polymer-coated wire shall have the polymercoating extruded onto wire that conforms to the requirementsas shown in Table 3.6.2 Class 2a

19、 polymer-coated wire shall have the polymercoating extruded and adhered to wire that is zinc-coated by thehot-dip method, zinc-coated by the electrolytic process, oraluminum-coated by the hot-dip method.6.3 Class 2b polymer-coated wire shall have the polymercoating fused and adhered to wire that is

20、zinc-coated by thehot-dip method, zinc-coated by the electrolytic process, oraluminum-coated by the hot-dip method. The use of a primerprior to the application of a polymer coating may be recom-mended by the polymer manufacturer.NOTE 1Under current practice, the process for producing a Class 2bPVC c

21、oating requires the use of a primer to attain chemical bonding to thesubstrate. In any event, the polymer manufacturers recommendationshould be followed.6.4 Type of metallic coating on the steel wire substrate shallbe the choice of the producer unless otherwise specified.7. Weave7.1 The wire shall b

22、e woven throughout in the form ofapproximately uniform square mesh, having parallel sides andhorizontal and vertical diagonals of approximately uniformdimensions. The top and bottom of the fabric shall be knuckledor twisted as specified in Section 12.8. Size of Mesh8.1 The size of mesh shall conform

23、 to the requirements asshown in Table 1.8.2 The permissible variation from the specified size ofmesh shall be 618 in. (3.2 mm) for all mesh sizes over 1 in. (25mm) and 6116 in. (1.6 mm) for all mesh sizes 1 in. (25 mm)and under.8.3 Size of mesh shall be determined by unrolling a roll offabric on a f

24、lat surface and exerting tension in accordance withthe requirements of 18.2, then measuring the minimum cleardistance between the wires forming the parallel sides of themesh.9. Diamond Count9.1 Typical diamond count for each standard height isshown in Table 2. Other diamond counts are permissible,pr

25、ovided that they are consistent within a lot. The purchaserhas the option to specify the typical diamond count of 4.1.8.10. Size of Wire10.1 Chain-link fabric shall be fabricated from wire diam-eters as necessary to meet the requirements of Table 1. Thediameter shall be determined as the average of

26、two readingstaken at right angles to each other on the straight portion of theparallel sides of the mesh and measured to the nearest 0.001 in.(0.03 mm).10.2 The permissible variation from the specified diameterof the core wire over 0.105 in. (2.67 mm) shall be 60.005 in.(0.13 mm). The permissible va

27、riation for the specified diameteron core wires 0.105 in. Height of Fabric11.1 Chain-link fabric, unless otherwise specified by thepurchaser, shall be furnished in the standard heights shown inTable 1. Custom order fabric is available in heights to andincluding 240 ft.

33、 (6.56 m). The height of the fabric shall be theoverall dimension from the ends of twists or knuckles. Permis-sible variations from the specified height shall be 61 in. (25mm) for standard selvage on fabric with mesh sizes 1 in. (25mm) and over and 612 in. (13 mm) for all fabric with meshsizes less

34、than 1 in. (25 mm).12. Selvage12.1 Fabric with 2-in. (50.8-mm) or 218-in. (54.0-mm)mesh, in heights less than 72 in. (1829 mm), shall be knuckledat both selvages. Fabric 72 in. (1829 mm) high and over shallbe knuckled at one selvage and twisted at the other. These arethe standard selvages. Other sel

35、vage combinations will besupplied only if specified by the purchaser.NOTE 2Caution: Twisted selvages for fences under 72 in. (1829 mm)in height are not recommended because of consumer safety consider-ations.12.2 The selvages of fabrics with meshes of less than 2 in.(50.8 mm) shall be knuckled on bot

36、h edges.13. Breaking Strength13.1 Wire constituting the fabric shall meet the minimumbreaking strength shown in Table 3, as determined in accor-dance with Test Methods and Definitions A370.13.2 Specimens to establish conformance to this require-ment shall comprise individual pickets from a section o

37、f thefence fabric. The specimens shall be of sufficient length so asto be firmly gripped in the testing machine after straightening.Polymer coating may be removed from the sample by chemicalor mechanical means before testing. The actual gauge length(distance between jaws) of the specimen shall be li

38、mited to theundeformed length of wire between the two adjacent bends.14. Weight of Zinc, Aluminum, or Zinc-5 % Aluminum-Mischmetal Alloy Coatings14.1 The weight of zinc or aluminum coating shall conformto Table 4.14.2 The weight of coating shall be determined on anindividual piece of wire removed fr

45、weight of aluminum coating shall be determinedby the method contained in Test Method A428/A428M, afterstripping the polymer coating as outlined in Section 15.15. Thickness of Polymer Coating15.1 The thickness of the polymer coating shall be inaccordance with Table 5.15.2 The thickness of polymer coa

46、ting shall be determinedon an individual piece of wire removed from the fabric. Thisspecimen may be any length of wire over 12 in. (305 mm) andshall include both bends and straight sections, but shall notinclude either twists or knuckles.15.3 For Class 1 and Class 2a material, mechanically stripthe

47、polymer coating from the wire and measure the minimumand maximum thickness of the polymer coating with a suitablemicrometer.15.4 For Class 2b material, strip the polymer coating bychemical or mechanical means and determine the diameter ofthe bare wire. Scrape the coating from one side of the wire an

48、dmeasure the reduced diameter with a micrometer. The thick-ness of coating at this point is the difference between themeasurement thus obtained and the measured diameter of thebare wire. In a similar manner, determine the thickness ofcoating at right angles to the first determination.15.5 When remov

49、ing polymer coating by scraping, takecare not to remove any of the metallic surface.16. Properties of Polymer-Coated Wire16.1 The polymer-coated wire from which the fabric iswoven shall have a demonstrated ability to conform to thefollowing requirements:16.2 Adhesion Tests:16.2.1 Class 2a must conform to the requirements of 16.2.2.Class 2b must conform to the requirements of 16.2.3.16.2.2 Three specimens from each lot shall be tested.Measure a distance of34 in.
