Scope*1.1 This specification covers the gypsum boards describedin 1.1.1 1.1.9.NOTE 1Specifications C840, C841, C844 and C1280 contain appli-cation procedures for gyp

3、sum board.1.1.1 Gypsum wallboard, designed for use on walls,ceilings, or partitions and that affords a surface suitable toreceive decoration.1.1.2 Predecorated gypsum board, designed for use as thefinished surfacing for walls, ceilings, or partitions.1.1.3 Gypsum backing board, coreboard, and shaftl

4、inerboard, designed for use as a base in multilayer systems or as agypsum stud or core in semisolid or solid gypsum boardpartitions, or in shaft wall assemblies.NOTE 2The terms backing board, coreboard, and shaftliner boardrefer to different end uses. The term gypsum backing board, as used in thissp

5、ecification, shall include gypsum coreboard and gypsum shaftlinerboard unless otherwise stated.1.1.4 Water-resistant gypsum backing board, designed pri-marily to be used as a base for the application of ceramic orplastic tile on walls or ceilings. This product is also suitable fordecoration.1.1.5 Ex

6、terior gypsum sofft board, designed for use onexterior soffits and carport ceilings that are completely pro-tected from contact with liquid water.1.1.6 Gypsum sheathing board, designed for use as sheath-ing on buildings.1.1.7 Gypsum base for veneer plaster, designed for use as abase for the applicat

7、ion of gypsum veneer plaster.1.1.8 Gypsum lath, designed for use as a base for theapplication of gypsum plaster.1.1.9 Gypsum ceiling board, designed for use on interiorceilings with framing spaced not more than 24 in. 610 mm oncenter and that affords a surface suitable to receive water-basedtexture

8、and other decoration. This product is also suitable foruse on interior walls.1.2 Specifications applicable to all gypsum boards arelocated in Section 14and 1315. Materials and Manufacture4.1 Gypsum board shall consist of a noncombustible core ofgypsum complying with Specification C22/C22M, surf

23、acedwith paper bonded to the core.4.1.1 Gypsum sheathing board shall consist of a noncom-bustible water-resistant core of gypsum complying with Speci-fication C22/C22M, surfaced on both the face and back withwater-repellant paper bonded to the core.4.1.2 Gypsum coreboard shall be either a single boa

24、rd orcomposed of two factory-laminated gypsum boards to provideup to 1 in. 25.4 mm total nominal thickness.4.1.3 Water-resistant gypsum backing board shall consist ofa noncombustible water-resistant core of gypsum complyingwith Specification C22/C22M, surfaced on both the back andface with water-rep

25、ellant paper bonded to the core.4.1.4 Predecorated gypsum board shall consist of a noncom-bustible core of gypsum complying with Specification C22/C22M, surfaced with paper bonded to the core with the facecovered with a decorative sheet, film, or coating.4.1.4.1 Class I predecorated gypsum board sha

26、ll have adecorative sheet or film laminated to the face.4.1.4.2 Class II predecorated gypsum board shall have adecorative coating applied to the face.4.1.5 Laminated gypsum board shall consist of two or morefactory laminated gypsum boards that conform to this specifi-cation.4.2 The back surface of f

27、oil-backed gypsum board shall inaddition be covered with aluminum foil.4.3 Gypsum board, mold resistant, designates gypsum boardhaving not more than 20 % mold growth, based on surface areacoverage, when tested in accordance with Test Method D3273.4.4 Gypsum Board, type X (Special Fire-Resistant):4.4

See firetest reports or listings from recognized fire testing laboratories forassembly particulars, materials, and ratings.4.4.3 Gypsum shaftliner board, type X, designates gypsumshaftliner board complying with this specification that meetsthe acceptanc

33、e criteria for temperature rise for not less than1-12 h for boards34-in. 19.0 mm thick or 2 h for boards 1-in.25.4 mm thick, when applied in a double layer solid nonloadbearing partition as described in 4.4.3.1 and tested in accor-dance with Test Methods E119 with thermocouple locations asspecified

34、in 4.4.3.2.4.4.3.1 Two layers of gypsum shaftliner board appliedvertically and friction fit into vertical 25-gauge steel “H”members, 1-12-in. 38.1 mm deep for boards34-in. 19.0 mmthick or 2-in. 50.8 mm deep for boards 1-in. 25.4 mm thick,spaced 24-in. 610 mm on centers and 25-gauge steel track atthe

35、 perimeter of the partition. “H” members shall be formedwith a single web or shall be two pieces of perimeter trackfastened together along the web with screws spaced 24-in.610 mm on centers.C1396/C1396M 1724.4.3.2 Temperature rise on the unexposed surface shall bemeasured using not less than five th

36、ermocouples; one shall belocated at the center of the assembly and one shall be locatedat the center of each quadrant. Thermocouples shall be locatednot less than 3-in. 76 mm from an “H” member.4.5 Gypsum wallboard, gypsum backing board, exteriorgypsum soffit board, and gypsum ceiling board shall ha

37、ve aflame spread index of not more than 25 when tested inaccordance with Test Method E84.4.6 Physical Properties, Dimensions, and Tolerances ofGypsum Board:4.6.1 Specimens shall be taken from the samples obtained inaccordance with Specification C1264.4.6.1.1 Specimens shall be tested in accordance w

38、ith TestMethods C473.4.6.2 Core, End, and Edge HardnessThe specimens shallhave an average hardness of not less than 15 lbf 67 N whentested by Method A and 11 lbf 49 N when tested by MethodB.4.6.2.1 When testing laminated gypsum board, if the lami-nated components are the same product and thickness,

39、the testshall be conducted on either component of the laminatedproduct. If the laminated gypsum board is comprised ofdifferent products or thicknesses, each component shall betested.4.6.3 Edges and EndsThe edges and ends shall bestraight.4.6.4 LengthThe tolerance in length shall be 614 in.66 mm.4.6.

40、5 Tapered Edge DepthThe average thickness of theedge of recessed or tapered edge gypsum board shall be notless than 0.020 in. 0.51 mm but not more than 0.090 in.2.29 mm less than the average thickness of the gypsumboard.4.6.6 The method for determining properties for a nominalthickness not listed in

41、 the tables of Sections 5 through 12 shallbe calculated as detailed in 4.6.6.1 and 4.6.6.2.4.6.6.1 For a board whose nominal thickness is not specifiedin the tables in Sections 5 through 12 interpolate between thetwo adjacent thicknesses in the tables.4.6.6.2 Properties shall not be extrapolated to

42、nominalthicknesses outside the range of values specified in the tables.4.7 Volatile Sulfur Compounds:4.7.1 Gypsum board shall contain not greater than 10 ppmof orthorhombic cyclooctasulfur (S8), when tested in accor-dance with Test Methods C471M.NOTE 4When exposed to heat, humidity, or both, gypsum

43、board con-taining S8 in quantities above 10 ppm may emit volatile sulfur compoundsin quantities that cause abnormal corrosion on electrical wiring, plumbingpipes, fuel gas lines, HVAC equipment, or any components of theforegoing.5. Gypsum Wallboard, Predecorated Gypsum Board, andLaminated Gypsum Boa

48、97 4325.1.4 Foil-Backed Gypsum Wallboard and Foil-Backed Pre-decorated Gypsum Board:5.1.4.1 Foil-backed gypsum wallboard and foil-backed pre-decorated gypsum board shall meet all of the requirements forgypsum wallboard and predecorated gypsum board.5.1.4.2 When tested in accordance with Test Methods

49、 E96/E96M, the permeance of foil-backed gypsum wallboard andfoil-backed predecorated gypsum board shall be not more than0.30 perm 17 ng/Pasm2 (Desiccant Method) for the condi-tion of 50 % relative humidity on the face of the board, and0 % relative humidity on the back (foil-covered) side of theboard.5.2 Dimensions and Tolerances
