28、m), 0.B581 1728.2 Machining AllowancesWhen the surfaces of finishedmaterial are to be machined, the following allowances aresuggested for normal machining operations:8.2.1 As-Finished Rounds (Annealed and Descaled)Fordiameters of516 to1116 in. (7.94 to 17.46 mm) incl, anallowance of116 in. (1.59 mm)

29、 on the diameter should be madefor finish machining.8.3 LengthThe permissible variations in length of finishedrods shall be as prescribed in Table 4. Unless otherwisespecified, random mill lengths shall be furnished. Rods orderedto random or nominal lengths shall be furnished with eithercropped or s

30、aw-cut ends; material ordered to cut lengths shallbe furnished with square saw-cut or machined ends. Whererods are ordered in multiple lengths, a14-in. (6.35-mm) lengthaddition shall be allowed for each uncut multiple length.8.4 WeightFor calculation of mass or weight, the follow-ing densities shall

Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance9.1 The material shall be uniform in quality and condition,smooth, commercially straight, and free of injurious imperfec-tions

Sampling10.1 Lots for Chemical Analysis and Mechanical Testing:10.1.1 A lot for chemical analysis shall consist of one heat.10.1.2 Alot of rod for mechanical testing shall be defined asthe material from one heat in the same condition and specifiedthickness.10.2 Sampling for Chemical Analysis:10

33、.2.1 A representative sample shall be obtained from eachlot during pouring or subsequent processing.10.2.2 Product (check) analysis shall be wholly the respon-sibility of the purchaser and shall conform to the product(check) analysis variations per Specification B880.10.3 Sampling for Mechanical Tes

34、ting:10.3.1 A representative sample shall be taken from each lotof finished material.11. Number of Tests and Retests11.1 Chemical AnalysisOne test per lot.11.2 Tension TestsOne test per lot.11.3 RetestsIf the specimen used in the mechanical test ofany lot fails to meet the specified requirements, tw

35、o additionalspecimens shall be taken from different sample pieces andtested. The results of the tests on both of these specimens shallmeet the specified requirements.12. Specimen Preparation12.1 Tension test specimens shall be taken from materialafter final heat treatment and tested in the direction

36、 offabrication.12.2 Tension test specimens shall be any of the standard orsubsized specimens shown in Test Methods E8.12.3 In the event of disagreement, the referee specimenshall be the largest possible round specimen shown in TestMethods E8.13. Test Methods and Chemical Analysis13.1 The chemical co

37、mposition and mechanical propertiesof the material as enumerated in this specification shall bedetermined, in case of disagreement, in accordance with thefollowing ASTM methods:13.1.1 Chemical AnalysisTest Methods E1473. For ele-ments not covered by Test Methods E1473, the referee methodshall be as

38、agreed upon between the manufacturer and pur-chaser. The composition of the remainder element shall bedetermined arithmetically by difference.13.1.2 Tension TestTest Methods E8.13.1.3 Method of SamplingPractice E55.13.1.4 Determining Significant PlacesPractice E29.13.2 For purposes of determining co

39、mpliance with thelimits in this specification, an observed value or a calculatedvalue shall be rounded in accordance with the rounding methodof Practice E29:RequirementsRounded Unit for Observed or CalculatedValueChemical composition and toler-ancesnearest unit in the last right-hand placeof figures

Inspection14.1 Inspection of the material shall be made as agreed uponby the manufacturer and the purchaser as part of the purchasecontract.15. Rejection and Rehearing15.1 Material that fails

41、 to conform to the requirements ofthis specification may be rejected. Rejection should be reportedto the producer or supplier promptly and in writing. In case ofdissatisfaction with the results of the test, the producer orsupplier may make claim for a rehearing.16. Certification16.1 When specified i

42、n the purchase order or contract, amanufacturers certification shall be furnished to the purchaserstating that material has been manufactured, tested, and in-spected in accordance with this specification, and that the testresults on representative samples meet specification require-ments. 43、fied in the purchase order or contract, areport of the test results shall be furnished.17. Product Marking17.1 Each piece of material12 in.
