With BS PL 9, this document supersedes DTD 5627, April 1982, which was declared obsolescent by the Ministry of Defence from 1st April 1999. Test methods associated with this speci

It refers only to technical suitability and does not absolve the user from legal obligations relating to health

、mide fibrous material intended for suppression of explosions in aircraft fuel tanks. The material may be supplied as flat sheets or preformed shapes. NOTE The material is intended for use in integral, rigid or flexible aircraft fuel tanks containing such fuels as Avtur, Avcat and Avtag at temperatur
、es up to 110 C with intermittent peaks up to 130 C. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. BS PL 9, Fibrous polyamide material for use as an explosion suppressant and as a baffle material in aircraft fuel tanks Test methods. 3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this British Standard, the following terms and definitions apply. 3.1 melding process in which
、 bonds are formed between fibres in contact with each other by raising their temperature to a point where the polymer forming the surface layer softens sufficiently for bonding to occur. 4 Material The sheet material or preformed shapes shall be manufactured to issue-controlled documents, which shal
、l form part of the contract between purchaser and manufacturer. Changes to the manufacturing process shall not be made without due consideration being given that the modified material meets all the requirements of the standard. 5 Properties 5.1 General The sheet material shall consist of fibrous pol
、yamide material bonded together by a melding process without the use of adhesive. The fibre incorporated in the sheet material shall be white in colour, and the sheet material shall have a minimum polyimide content of 99 %. The material shall lie substantially flat on both of the main surfaces. The
、material shall not chemically interact with nor cause physical damage to rigid or flexible fuel tanks and sealants used in these tanks. The standard size of sheet shall be 480 480 120 mm with the main fibre orientation being in the 480 mm direction and density gradient in the 120 mm direction, or as
、 otherwise agreed between the purchaser and manufacturer. Material supplied in sheet form shall be free from surface imperfections or any other defect that would impair satisfactory performance. Surface imperfections can be supplied in material that is preformed prior to installation provided such i
、mperfections are identified by their nature and level of incidence for the purchaser to accept.BS PL 8:2005 2 BSI 10 June 2005 5.2 Properties of the material The material shall meet the requirements of Table 1 when tested in accordance with BS PL 9.
