2、SCOPE. This commercial item description covers plywood chests with hinged covers. Figure 1 depicts a typical plywood chest. 2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. The plywood chests are to be built such that when fully loaded there is no more than 6 mm (1/4 inch) bottom and side deflection. Nominal 1 O cm (4 i
3、nch) by 8 cm (3 inch) skids shall be used on all chests having a gross weight (including contents) in excess of 114 kilograms (kg) (250 pounds) and a length of 90 centimeters (cm) (36 inches). Block and wood partitions, if required, shall be held in place with waterproof wood glue and counter sunk w
4、ood screws or bolts as appropriate to the load and loading. The plywood chests shall be constructed such that the sanded, unplugged surface of the plywood shall be on the outside of the plywood chest. All exposed edges and corners are to be protected by metal protective and reinforcing edges. Latche
5、s, hinges, pulls and cover restraining chains shall be installed. Corner cover pulls are to be installed on all chests. Straight cover pulls shall be used only if the plywood chest length exceeds 1.2 meters (m) (48 inches). The number of handles for each end and side panel shall be as follows: under
6、 60 cm (24 inches) of length - none; one handle for each 30 cm (12 inches) over 60 cm (24 inches) of length. The number of hinges shall be as follows: i mkiimum of two binges up to 90 crn (36 inches) of length; one additional hinge for every 30 cm (12 inches) of length over 90 cm (36 inches). There
7、shall be one latch opposite each hinge. All hardware, metal protective and reinforcing edges and restraining chains shall be securely attached such that they cannot be pulled off during their intended use. The offerorcontractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent possible in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Product conformance. The produ
11、cts provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description, conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The government reserves the right to require
12、proof of such conformance. 4.2 Market acceptability. The item offered must have been sold to the govemment or commercial market. 4.3 Inspection requirements. Bid samples may be required for item offered when necessary to assure product quality. As specified in the contract or order, the contractor s
