SCOPE. This co

2、mmercial item description covers portable pneumatic rivet-head shavers for general utility maintenance. 2. CLASSIFICATION. The rivet head shaver shall conform to the following types . Type I - Multi-rotation shaver or shaving all rivets with head diameters up to % inch O.D. including high strength r

3、ivets. TY-w II - Single rotation shaver for soft metal rivets (aluminum, aluminum alloy, copper, brass, and mild steel). SALIENT CHARACTENSTICS. 3.1 Multi-rotatio

5、n shaver. The Multi-rotation type shaver shall rotate the cutter about more than one axis in such a way as to largely eliminate forces which tend to move the cutter laterally away from the work It shall be capable of shaving aluminum, aluminum alloy, copper, brass, monol, stainless steel, mild steel

6、, and titanium rivets (including JO-Bolts) with minimum protrusions of 0.02 inch without stalling or chattering when operated on a maximum line pressure of 90 psi Different cutters may be used for different materials. It shall be capable of shaving 500 3/16 inch diameter FA200 JO-Bolts at a rate of

7、not less than six (6) Jo-Bolts per minute without changing or regrinding the cutter. 3.2 Single rotation shaver. The single rotation shavers shall be capable of shaving aluminum, aluminum alloy, copper, brass, and mild steel rivets with a minimum protrusion of 0.02 inch without stalling or chatterin

8、g when operated on a maximum line pressure of 90 psi. They shall be capable of shaving both mild ferrous and non-ferrous rivets of upset shank diameter sizes of 5/16,3/8,7/16, 1/2,9/16, 5/8, and 3/4 inches without stalling or chattering. 3.3 Surface roughness. The shavers shall produce a maximum riv

9、et head surface roughness of 125 microinches rms. 3.4 Stop piece. A spring-loaded, retractable, micrometrically adjustable stop piece shall be provided to permit constant spring loading against the surface adjacent to the rivet being shaved Stop pieces shall be furnished in the sizes and quantities

10、necessary to accommodate the cutter size range of the individual class of shaver. The surface of the stop piece shall be finished in such a manner that scratching or marking of the surface against which it is used will be minimal. The stop pieces shall be vented to allow the esczpe of chips and dust

11、 produced by the cutter. Stop pieces shall be permanently marked to show the nominal size of the cutter with which it is to be used. 3.5 Adjustment. A clearly and permanently marked micrometer adjustment shall be located on or near the stop piece. This adjustment shall be marked in increments of 0.0

13、32 m A-A-5 8066 3.6 Stabilizer. A stabilizer shall be provided. It shall act as a tool rest against the work during shaving operations. It shall have provisions to protect against marking of the work surface. It shall be removable. 3.7 Air inlet. The air inlet connection shall have 1/4-18 internal A

14、merican Standard pipe threads. The inlet shall have provisions to prohibit the entrance of any foreign bodies or materials. The inlet shall have provisions for cleaning or replacement. 3.8 Cutters. The cutter (s), if provided (see 7.2) shall be be capable of giving the desired finish on shaved rivet

15、 heads ( see 3.3). The width of the cutting surface shall be legibly and permanently marked on each cutter head. 3.9 Carrying case. If provided, the carrying case shall be constructed of a durable material, and be divided into compartments of ample size to house the shaver and accessories. It shall

16、have a handle or other means to grip and carry. 3.1 O Interchangeability. All parts shall be interchangeable, without modification, with like parts of any other shavers of the same type from the same manufacturer. 3.1 1 Weight. The weight shall be comparable to that of other commercially available s

17、havers but shall not exceed 6 pounds. 3.12 Materials. Materials used in the construction of shavers shall be of uniform quality and condition and shall be free from seams, cracks, and other defects which may adversely affect the appearance, strength, endurance, or wear resistance of the shavers. Mat

18、erials shall not be hammered, filed, or otherwise treated to conceal defects. 3.13 Desim. The shavers shall be built so that no parts will work loose in service, and will withstand the strains, jars, vibrations, and other conditions incident to operation, shipment, storage and service. 3.14 Ad-iustm

19、ents and repairs. The shavers shall be constructed so that adjustments and repairs can be easily made by one person. The offerer/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practical, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 5. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS. 5.1 Contractor Ce

21、rtification. The contractor shall certi and maintain substantiating evidence that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this Commercial Item Description and that the product conforms to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The gov

22、ernment reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract. 5.2 Market Acceptability. The following market acceptability criteria are necessary to document quality of the product to be p

23、rovided under this CID. 5.2.1 The company producing the item must have been producing a product meeting the requirement of this CID for at least 2 years. 5.2.2 The company must have sold at least 100 items meeting this CID in the commercial marketplace over the past 2 years. 5.3 Performance Tests. 5

24、.3.1 Each selected sample shall be tested to meet the salient characteristics described in section 3 of this CID. 5.3.2 Sample types and sizes shall be as specified in the contract or order. 6.
