4、 A new tape version of FIPS 55 is now available. Features of the new tape are: * Congressional District data based on the apportionment of the newly- convened 98th Congress; individual file entries and place codes for each county and county equivalent in the United States; * * an updated cross-refer
5、ence to the General Services Administrations Geographic Location Codes; and * inclusion of ali released Change Notice data. These changes enable FIPS 55 to be used by Federal agencies as an important data- base for specifying the geographic distribution of Federal funds, as required by the Consolida
6、ted Federal Funds Report Act of 1982 (P.L. 97-326). The new tape lists the appropriate Congressional District(s) of the 98th Congress with each entry of a county, primary county division, incorporated place, census designated place, Indian reservation, A1ask.l: Native village, and military base. Wit
7、h the inclusion of counties, data is now provided on each local general govern- ment in the United States, and each such government is assigned a standard code in a unified system. Place codes for counties consist of the standard county codes preceded by “99“.
