3、 PROCEDURES,AND ABBREVIATED CHECKLISTS This specification is approved for use by the Department of the Air Force andis available for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department ofDefense.1. SCOPE. 1.1 Scope. This detail specification covers the requirements for the preparation of four (4)t

4、ypes of flight manuals and three (3) types of abbreviated flight manual checklists for alltypes of aircraft. This specification also includes air refueling procedures that are to beincorporated in the flight manuals and checklists. These procedures will provide flightcrews with standard procedures a

5、nd the data to engage in air refueling operations asdictated by mission requirements. This specification contains appendices which will allowfor the tagging of flight manual information for digital delivery to the government. Thesewill allow the flight manual to be prepared in either a paper or elec

6、tronic presentation. Inaddition to paper delivery, this specification provides for standard generalized markuplanguage (SGML) document type definition (DTD) usage (see appendixes A through C). Allappendixes are intended for compliance when required; however, requirements that are notapplicable to a

7、specific aircraft will not be included. The four types of manuals covered by this specification are:Flight Manual (eight sections) (see 3.3, 3.3.10, and 6.2)Performance Data Manual (see 3.4)Mission Crew Manual (see 3.5)Supplemental Manual (see 3.6)2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS.2.1 General. The document

9、s listed in this section are specified in sections 3 and 4 of thisspecification. This section does not include documents cited in other sections of thisspecification or recommended for additional information or as examples. While every efforthas been made to ensure the completeness of this list, doc

In the event of a conflict between the text of this document andthe references cited herein (except for related associated specifications or specificationsheets), the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document, however,supersedes ap

21、plicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained.3. REQUIREMENTS.3.1 Function of the manuals. The primary function of the manuals is to describe theaircraft, its equipment, and their operation, characteristics, and restrictions. Sufficientinformation shall be included so t

22、hat a flight crew can operate the aircraft safely andefficiently. Some systems may require individual normal and emergency procedures,malfunction analysis, and alternate operations to provide maximum utilization ofmalfunctioning equipment. Duties that can be performed by either the pilot or anotherc

23、rew member shall be assigned to the other crew member to minimize the pilots duties. These manuals are not designed to teach basic duties, but how to apply knowledge of basicduties to the operation of the system. Emphasis shall be placed on any variations to basicduties that are created by unique ch

24、aracteristics of the system.3.2 General requirements. Unless otherwise specified, the manner of preparation andformat for all manuals shall be in accordance with the requirements of MIL-STD-38784,except as follows: a. The flight manual (including supplemental and mission crew manual)shall be arrange

25、d by sections and subsections (rather than chapters)and performance data shall be arranged by parts. Critical emer

26、gency and minimum reaction items shall be prepared in10 point, extra bold, uppercase letters.c. Performance data shall be published as a separate manual, or whenspecified by the acquiring activity, as an appendix within the flightmanual (see 6.2).d. Tables, charts, and graphs shall be considered ill

27、ustrations and shallbe identified and numbered as figures. Figure numbers in theperformance data shall include the performance data letter and partnumber. For example, the first figure in performance data A, part 2will be numbered Figure A2-1. e. Paragraph numbering shall be in accordance with MIL-S

28、TD-38784,except that they only go to three indentures.f. Section and part headings shall be 18-point boldface uppercase.g. Sideheads shall conform to the following:(1) Primary sideheads: 14-point, boldface, uppercase letters, with notext run-in.(2) First subordinate sideheads: 10-point, boldface, up

29、percase letters,with no text run-in.(3) Second subordinate sideheads: 10-point, boldface, uppercase andlowercase letters, with no text run-in.(4) Third subordinate sideheads: 10-point, lightface, uppercaseletters, with no text run-in.(5) Fourth and all subsequent sideheads: 10-point, lightfaceupperc

30、ase letters, with the text run-in.h. Subsection headings shall be 16-point, boldface, uppercase letters. Asubsection is a major subdivision of a section. Subsection titles shallbe centered at the beginning of each subsection. Subsections shall notbe numbered. When subsections are used, there shall b

31、e at least twoin a section. Subsections shall be divided into primary andsubordinate sideheads, as required.i. 32、e as specified in MIL-STD-38784. Page numbers of theperformance data shall include the performance data letter and thepart number. For example: performance data A, part 1, page 1 shallbe numbered A1-1, and performance data B, part 3, page 2 shall benumbered B3-2.3.2.1 Warnings, cautions, and notes.

33、The use Warnings, cautions, and notes, shall be inaccordance with MIL-STD-38784, except that warnings and cautions shall follow theparagraph/procedure. Warnings and cautions used in flight manual checklists shall be heldto an absolute minimum. Unless otherwise specified, only the most critical warni

34、ngs andcautions will be included in the checklists. These warnings and cautions shall be approvedby the acquiring activity (see 6.2). Unless otherwise specified, if warnings or cautionscontained in the flight manual are not included in the checklist, the checklist line item shallbe followed by a “W“

35、 or a “C“ (see 6.2). 3.2.2 Consistency. All material in the flight manual and associated checklists shall bereviewed for consistency throughout the manual and with any other applicable manuals; forexample, the takeoff technique specified in Section II of the manual shall be based ontakeoff data pres

36、ented in the performance data. All apparent or actual inconsistenciesshall be corrected or explained.3.2.2.1 Part nouns. Part nouns shall be specified by the acquiring activity, standardized,and not necessarily as reflected on the engineering drawings (see 6.2).3.2.3 Duplication of procedures or tec

37、hniques. The requirements of MIL-STD-38784 apply,except as specified herein, for specific emergency and alert requirements.3.2.4 Use of color. Limited use of color is authorized in the flight manual. Its use shall berestricted to illustrations where standard black and white print will not effectivel

38、y conveyor highlight the required information. For illustrations depicting danger zones; the colorred shall be used to identify hazardous areas; the color yellow shall be used to identifyareas of potential hazard and the color green shall be used to identify safe areas. Unlessotherwise specified by

39、the acquiring activity (see 6.2), color shall be used to distinguish flowpatterns on complex hydraulic, fuel, bleed, airflow, and electrical diagrams. Colorillustrations portraying multi-function (glass cockpit) components and other displays suchas color weather radar, shall be representative of the

40、 actual display.3.2.5 References within the manual. The requirements of MIL-STD-38784 apply. References to figures shall not be used in procedures.3.2.5.1 References. General temperature references, in air refueling procedures, shall begiven in degrees Celsius in lieu of degrees Fahrenheit. In lieu

41、of requiring the text to referto speed and distance readings as calibrated by the equipment, the speed and distancereadings shall designate if the reading is indicated, calibrated, true, etc. Further, theProvided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS-,-

42、,-MIL-DTL-7700G (USAF)7readings shall indicate the units, e.g., nautical miles, feet, seconds, etc.3.2.6 References to other publications. The requirements of MIL-STD-38784 apply. As ageneral rule, reference may be made only to other flight manual publications. 3.2.7 Safety and operational supplemen

43、ts. Formal Safety and Operational Supplementsshall be prepared to the requirements of MIL-STD-38784, except as specified by thisparagraph.3.2.7.1 Aircrew notices. The following notes shall be included (as specified below) in allflight manual safety and operational supplements. These notes shall be p

44、lacedimmediately after the title block and date of the supplement and before the purpose (seeFigure 1).3.2.7.1.1 Instruction notice. The following notice shall be included on all flight manualsafety and operational supplements.NOTICE TO AIRCREWS Write the number of this supplement alongside the chan

45、ged portion of theFlight Manual in pencil.3.2.7.1.2 Checklist notice. The following notice shall appear on all flight manual safety andoperational supplements affecting checklists. This supplement affects your Flight Crew Checklist. Remove the checklistpage(s) from the supplement and insert them in

46、the checklist. Retainoriginal checklist page(s). 3.2.7.2 Supplement title page changes. In the title block of either the safety or operationalsupplement, replace the words “Technical Manual“ with the words “Flight Manual“.3.2.7.3 Status page for flight crew manual supplements. The last page of each

47、formal flightmanual safety/operational supplement shall consist of a supplement status page formattedsimilar to Figure 2.3.2.7.4 Abbreviated checklist pages for flight manual supplements. Flight manualsupplements containing information that affects related abbreviated flight crew checklistsshall inc

48、lude temporary checklist pages which reflect the supplemental information. Thechecklist pages shall be marked on the affected side, opposite of and in line with the pagenumber with the identifier OPERATIONAL SUPPLEMENT or SAFETYSUPPLEMENT, as applicable. The flight manual supplement number shall be

49、placed inparenthesis at the top of the page, opposite of and in line with the technical order (TO)number.
