SCOPE 1.1 This specification covers the general requirements for electro-mechanical relays (see 6.3.1) for use in telegraph circuits and associated equipment, 1. 2 Classification

Unless otherwise indicated, the issue in effect on date of invi

10、fication sheets, The individual item requirements shall be as specified herein and in accordance with the applicable specification sheets. In the event of conflict between requirements of this specification and the specification sheets, the latter shall govern (see 6. 2). 3. 2 Qualification and prep

11、roduction. 3.2.1 Qualification of relays covered by specification sheets. Relays furnished under this speci- fication and covered by specification sheets shall be products which are qualified for listing on the applicable qualified products list at the time set for opening of bids (see 4.4 and 6.4).

12、 3.2.2 Preproduction inspection of relays not covered by specification sheets. Relays furnished under this saecification and not covered bv specification sheets shall be products which have passed the preprodiction inspection specified (see 4: 5). This preproduction inspection shall be performed aft

13、er award of contract and prior to production (see 6.4). 3.3 Selection of specifications and standards. Specifications and standards for necessary com- modities and services not specified herein shall be selected in accordance with MIL-STD- 143. 3. 4 Materials. The materials shall be as specified her

14、ein or a suitable material shall be used which will enable the relays to meet the performance requirements of this specification. When re- quired by the contract or purchase order (see 6.2), the supplier shall furnish a certification that materials used in fabricating the relays are in accordance wi

15、th the specified requirements, and are the same materials used in fabricating the qualification samples. Acceptance or approval of any constituent material shall not be construed as a guaranty of acceptance of the finished product. 3.4.1 Fungus-resistant materials. Nonmetallic parts of the relay sha

All metal parts, shall be of a corrosion-resistant t

17、ype, or shall be plated or treated to resist corrosion, Cadmium plating shall not be used for plating any part of the relay while zinc and unfused tin plating shall not be used for plating internal parts of the relay, Zinc plating shall be in accordance with class I, type II of QQ-2-325. 3.4.2.1 Dis

18、similar metals. When dissimilar metals, as defined in MIL-STD-454, requirement 16, are used in intimate contact with each other, protection against electrolysis and corrosion shall be provided. The use of dissimilar metals in contact, which tend toward active electrolytic corro- sion (particularly b

19、rass, copper, or steel used in contact with aluminum or aluminum alloy), is not acceptable. However, metal-plating or metal spraying of dissimilar base metals to provide similar or suitable abutting surfaces is permitted. The use of dissimilar metals separated by a suitable insulating material is al

The selection of materials shall be such as to provide a shelf life of at least 3.4.4 Magnet wire. Magnet wi

21、re shall conform to MIL-W-583, except that when wire not covered 3.5 Design and construction, Relays shall be of the design, construction, and physical dimensions specified (see 3.1). 3.5.1 Enclosure. The enclosure shall be of the type and within the dimensional limits specified on the applicable sp

22、ecification sheet (see 3.1). Relays shall be designed so that when the cover is removed, the operation of the relay shall not be altered, Unless otherwise specified (see 3. 1) the case shall be electrically connected to pin 5. 3.5.2 Soldering. When soldering is employed, the use of flux shall be avo

23、ided whenever possible. if the use of flux is warranted, only non-corrosive fluxes shall be used unless it can be shown that non-destructive methods can eliminate all traces of corrosive elements after soldering. Soldering shall be in accordance with requirement 5 of MIL-STD-454. 3.5.3 Weight. The w

24、eight shall be as specified (see 3.1). 3.5.4 Threaded parts, All threaded parts shall be in accordance with Handbook H28. Whenever practical, all threads shall be in conformity with the coarse-thread series, The fine-thread series shall be used only for applications that might show a definite advant

25、age through their use. Where a special diameter-pitch combination is required, the thread shall be of American National Form and of any pitch between 16 and 36 which is used in the fine-thread series, 3.5.5 Adjustments. Relays having adjustable features shall be so designed that the setting of any r

26、elay adjustment will not be altered by any test specified herein. component parts such as contacts, coils, springs, shims, etc. , can be easily replaced (or repaired) and the unit can be readily readjusted to serviceable condition. 3.5.7 Operating power, The relay operating power shall be derived on

I. 4. 1, dc coil resistznce shall be as specified (see 3.1). 3.8.2 Sensitivity. When relays are tested as specified in 4. I.

30、 4.2, the mark and the space con- tacts shall close with the specified current (see 3.1). 3.8.3 Gravitational effects. When relays are tested as specified in 4, I. 4.3, unless otherwise specified they shall conform to the sensitivity requirements specified in 3.8. 2. action shall not cause the sensi

I. 4.8, relays shall show capability of introducing 10 percent space bias, O percent bias and 10 percent mark bias, in each case with chatter not to exceed 12 percent from the mean bias, 3.8.9 Contact overload and input ove

34、rdrive, When tested as specified in 4, I. 4. 9, relays shall operate satisfactorily. Following the test, sensitivity shall be as specified (see 3. 1). 3.8.10 Operating speed. When tested as specified in 4. I. 4. 10, relays shall operate satisfactorily 3. 8.11 Contact resistance. When relays are test

35、ed as specified in 4. I. 4.11, the resistance of at speeds up to 120 Hz and the bias distortion shall not exceed i5 percent. any pair of mated contacts shall not exceed O. 5 ohm. 3. 9 High and low temperature operation. When relays are tested as specified in 4.8, unless otherwise specified (see 3. i

36、), the bias distortion shall not differ by more than 2 percent from the value measured at room temperature, Following the test, the relays shall be free of mechanical defects and shall meet the requirements of Sensitivity, contact bounce, break time, and bias distortion as specified in 3.8.2, 3. 8.5

Following the test, the relays shall meet the requirements of dielectric withstanding voltage and insulation resistance as specified in 3.6 and 3. I, respectively. 3.10 Salt spray (corrosion). When relays are tested as specified in 4.9, there

When tested as specified in 4.12, vibration at 10Gs acceleration at frequencies up to 500 Hz sha

41、ll not impair operation. Unless otherwise specified, bias distortion shall not change more than *4 percent, Following the functional vibration test, the relays shall be free of any observable damage and shall comply with sensitivity requirements specified in 3.8.2. 3.14 Shock, medium impact. When re

42、lays are tested as specified in 4.13, there shall be no evidence of loosening of parts. Following the shocks, sensititivy and bias distortion shall be as specified in 3.8.2 and 3.8.7, respectively, evidence of leakage in excess of 1 x 10-8 standard cubic centimeters per second or 1 x cubic centimete

43、rs per second as specified (see 3.1). All contactsf the relay shall be subjected to at least 500 million cycles of rated contact load. Following the test, relays shall meet the following requirements: Contact resistance Sensitivity - - - - - - - - - Shall not exceed 2-1/2 times Bounce time - - - - -

The following information shall be marked on the relays in accordance with MIL-STD-130. Symbols shal

46、l be in accordance with MIL-STD-15. As a minimum, the following information shall be included: (a) Part number. (b) Circuit diagram showing contacts and input-output symbolism with necessary (c) Maixfacturers name. (d) Date code in accordance with MIL-STD-456. terminal identification. 3.17.1 Militar

47、y part number. The military part number shall be in accordance with 1.2.1. 3.18 Workmanship. The relays shall be fabricated in such a manner as to be uniform in quality, and shall be free from defects that will affect life, serviceability, and appearance. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsi

48、bility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the supplier is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified, the supplier may utilize his own facilities or any commercial laboratory acceptabIe

49、to the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. 4. 1. 1 Test equipment and inspection facilities. The supplier shall establish and maintain a calibration system in accordance with MIL-C-45662.
