APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS. Not applicable.3. DEFINITIONS3.1 Modification engineering authority. Modificatio

、n engineering authority is thegovernment engineering activity responsible for the safe integration of the temporarynon-standard modification into the aerospace vehicle and related ground supportequipment.3.2 Modification number. A modification number is a unique number issued bythe configuration man

、agement office responsible for the temporary non-standardmodification project. The modification number is to be used to track the modificationand will appear on the modification paperwork generated.3.3 Temporary non-standard modification. Temporary non-standardmodifications are temporary hardware or

、 software changes or alterations to aerospacevehicles (aircraft, guided weapons, drones, remotely piloted vehicles (RPV), andmissiles other than strategic), airborne support equipment, external and internal stores, subsystems, components, or support equipment that interface with an aerospacevehicle.

、They are installations or changes that support research development, designchanges to existing modifications, and development and operational test and evaluationprograms or in-service testing of systems or equipment.4. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS4.1 General. This section covers the general aspects of Aeros

、pace Vehiclemodification requirements.4.2 Modification data. The following general data requirements shall apply for alltemporary non-standard modifications.Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS-,-,-MIL-STD-2773324.2.1 Temporary non-standard mo

、dification documentation. Temporary non-standard modification documentation shall be prepared and submitted to thecontracting activity in accordance with the Contract Data Requirements List (DD Form1423) (see 6.2) for contractor generated modifications.4.2.2 Component certificate of airworthiness. A

、 component certificate ofairworthiness shall be provided for all installed equipment that is part of the temporarymodification. The certificate shall indicate that the equipment is airworthy and safe tooperate in the intended environment at design conditions. The certificate shall alsoidentify any a

、ssociated hazards and limitations.4.2.3 Aerospace vehicle certificate of airworthiness. An aerospace vehiclecertificate of airworthiness shall be provided prior to flight of a modified aerospacevehicle. The certificate shall identify any flight restrictions imposed as a result of themodification(s).

、4.2.4 Modification number. Modification numbers for each modification ordemodification accomplished shall be recorded by a modification number for the lifetimeof, and transferred with, the aerospace vehicles permanent flight records.4.3 Checks and evaluations. Checks and evaluations shall be accompl

、ished forall manned aerospace vehicles.4.3.1 Operational ground checks. Operational ground checks shall beaccomplished to assure an aerospace vehicle is safe for flight. All systems andcomponents affected by a temporary modification, including systems affected bysoftware changes, shall be operationa

、lly ground checked to determine safe operationand condition prior to release for flight. These checks shall include electromagneticcompatibility, electromagnetic interference, and related system functional checks. If anadequate ground check cannot be accomplished, a power-on check shall beaccomplish

、ed prior to the first test flight.4.3.2 Aerodynamic evaluation flight. Aerodynamic evaluation flight(s) are requiredwhenever the modification changes aerodynamic configuration of the aerospacevehicle, changes flight controls, or affects structural strength. An aerodynamicevaluation flight shall be p

、erformed by experimental flight test pilots to evaluateaerospace vehicle structure or aerodynamic characteristics and to determine the effectsof the modification on the aerospace vehicle.4.3.3 Inspection prior to first flight. Each modification shall be thoroughlyexamined to determine compliance wit

A physicalconfiguration inspection and inventory of equipment shall be accomplished to determinethe accuracy of identification and documentation and the adequacy of maintenance andoperation instructions.Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking permitted w

、ithout license from IHS-,-,-MIL-STD-2773334.3.4 Mass properties. Mass properties for the modified aerospace vehicle, inclusive of any previous modifications, shall be evaluated and documented to indicatethe actual weight, moment, and center of gravity change resulting from the currentadditional modif

The modification engineering authority willprovide and certify the mass properties data for previously installed modifications. Thenew center of gravity must fall within maximum allowable ce

、nter of gravity limits for thebaseline aerospace vehicle.4.3.5 Electrical loads. Electrical load requirements of any new installed oractivated equipment shall be identified and evaluated against available aerospacevehicle power as impacted by the electrical loads of previous modifications. Recordsin

、cluding power source connectivity and power consumed or restored will bemaintained for all modification-related equipment. The modification engineeringauthority will provide and certify the electrical loads data for previously installedmodifications.5. DETAILED REQUIREMENTS5.1 General. The detailed

、requirements for installation, identification, and markingof mechanical and electrical components installed for temporary non-standardmodifications, are given in this section.5.2 Modification requirements. The following items shall be installed on everytemporary non-standard modification.5.2.1 Maste

、r power switch. A master power switch readily accessible to theaircrew shall be installed to de-energize, at one time, all test equipment andinstrumentation installed in conjunction with a temporary non-standard modification, except for that required for safe operation of the aerospace vehicle or rel

、ated supportequipment. The switch shall be installed on a black plate with an orange border. Theplate shall be identified with solid contrasting lettering as follows: “TEMPORARYMODIFICATION EQUIPMENT MASTER POWER SWITCH.”5.2.2 Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) wiring. PVC wiring, electrical cable, or wire wi

、thPVC insulation shall not be used in manned aerospace application for interconnectionof components.5.2.3 Advisory plate. An advisory plate shall be installed in a conspicuouslocation in the cockpit of manned aerospace vehicles. This plate shall be black with anorange border. The plate shall be mark

、ed with solid contrasting lettering as follows:“TEMPORARY MODIFICATION EQUIPMENT INSTALLED SEE OPERATING ORMAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS.”Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS-,-,-MIL-STD-2773345.3 Identification and marking. All items installed as

、part of a temporary non-standard modification shall be marked as indicated in this section. Marking will beapplied so that it does not interfere with equipment functionality.5.3.1 General markings. Modified equipment and components shall be markedwith orange marking to facilitate ready identificatio
