11、erations, and shall be readily acces- sibie for maintenance, operation, removal, and replacement. 3.5.1 Functional design. at and around military installations worldwide for the purpose of providing quick response for suppression and extinguishment of real material and property fires under extreme c

12、limatic conditions. The truck shall be capable of operating on pved surfaces, unimproved roads, and on cross-country terrain as required to accomplish the fire fighting mission at such installations. The truck shall be designed to operate efficiently 3.5.2 Reliabilitv. The reliability of the truck t

13、o satisfy its intended use will be demonstrated by successful completion of tests specif ied herein. 3.5.3 Maintainability. The truck shall be designed and constructed to provide : a. A minimum number of parts consistent with performances required herein b. and recognition of excessive wear or poten

14、tial failure C. Ease of adjusting, servicing, and replacing parts and components d. Parts and components that are located or positioned for ease of inspection Use of readily available standard tools and equipments for maintenance e. Maintenance with a mini.mum number of tools, 3.5.3.1 Foolproofness.

15、 Where improper installation of an item could cause malfunction of the item or the equipment in which it is installed, an unsymmetrical mounting means shall be provided where practical. That mounting shall allow the item to be installed only in its proper operating position. If an unsymmetrical moun

16、ting means is not practical, the item shall be so mounted that its proper operating position can be readily and visibly determined by service maintenaace personnel. 3.5.3.2 ?“ajar asser.blies. Drains, filler plugs, grease iittings, hydraulic lines,

20、 bleeders, and checkpoints for al1 components shall be so located that they are readily accessible and do not require special tools for proper servicing. 3.5.4 Safety featuyes. Ail space which is occupied or in which work is performed during operation, service, and maintenance of the truck shall be

21、free of hazardous protrusions, edges, cracks, or other features that may cause injury to personnel. Safety features such as steps with antiskid tread, handrails, or guards shall be provided at a11 points where the pro- tection of personnel is in question. 3.5.4.1 Hazard guards. subject to high opera

22、tional temperatures or to being electrically energized, that are of such nature or so located as to be hazardous to operating per- sonnel, shall be insulated o;: guarded to the extent necessary to eliminate the hazard. All rotating and reciprocating parts and all parts 3.5.4.2 Conponent protection.

29、the vehicle. 3.5.6.3 Clearance, Sufficient clearance shall be maintained around all attachment points to allow for restraining chains without interfereace from any other structure on the truck. Except as otherwise specified herein, performance require- ments shall be based on operation at sea level. 3.6.1 Eaviroisnental conditions. The truck shall be capable of satisfactory peri

32、orrnce under the following conditions without detrimental effect to subsequent operation: a. Starting and operaring in ambient temperatures ranging from -ZOO to 4-125OF b. in 3.13.2. 43、 and at higher water rates through the 2-l/S-inch discharge outlets. 3.7 Chassis. The chassis shall be tne manufacturers standard, except as modified to comply with requirements specified herein. The chassis shall be a 4 by 4 conforming to MIL-T-45354, type I, class D, gasoline or diesel engine driv

44、en as specified by the procuring activity (see 6.2). The total gross weight of the complete truck shall not exceed the manufacturers gvw rating when fully equipped as specified herein, including al1 specified fire fighting equipment, serviced with fuel, lubricants, and water; filled to capacity with

45、 water in the water tank; filled to capacity with foam con- centrate in the foam tank; a 1,500-pound simulated load in the hose bed; and five men weighing not less than 175 pounds each or equivalent dead weight. -. Discharging Eoam solutions of 3 percent (3 parts foam liquid to 97 parts 3.7.1 Engine

46、. horsepower at governed rpm, and shall meet performance requirements specified herein. Gasoline engines shall deliver the required performance when using regular grade gasoline. Diesel engines shall deliver the required performance when using fuel conforming to W-F-800. The truck engine shall deliv

47、er a minimum of 195 net brake 3.7.1.1 Engine hourmeter. less than 9,999 hours shall be provided to accurately register the number of hours of engine operating time. The meter shall be of strong, rugged con- struction to insure continuous trouble-free performance under the most extreme equipment oper

48、ating conditions specified herein. The meter shall be so mounted on the truck that it can be conveniently and easily read by per- sonnel servicing the truck. The meter may be combined with the engine tachoneter (see 3.9.2). 3.7.i.2 Cooling system. An hourmeter having a totalizing mechanism of not A
