It provides minimum criteria for four
14、 categories of metric and inch fastenersof any material type. It is to be used in concert with the specifications that apply to a given part. This Standard is intended to be a part within a larger quality assurance structure that addresseshighly specific elements of quality planning, material control
15、, human resources, gaging andtesting, procedures, blueprint and standards control, and ongoing improvements that are necessaryto permit the effective realization of the fastener itself. Such structures shall ideally be internation-ally recognized, but can be buyer specific. This Standard also provide
16、s minimum criteria for manufacturing inspection and final inspectionand allows for the necessary measure of flexibility and ingenuity of manufacturing approachesthat suppliers may use as they comply with the standards requirements and end objectives. Itprovides reference material to enable buyers an

Nonconformity preventionand continuous improvement must be an ongoing cultural element that is applied by all membersof the supply chain.Historically, the fastener industry has been served by the

These very standards have beenreplaced by this document but may still be referenced throughout the industry. The B18 StandardsCommittee and related Subcommittees are committed to replacing references to the
20、aforemen-tioned documents with a reference to this document. This revision was undertaken based on feedback from fastener manufacturers. The main concernexpressed was regarding the final inspection of Category 3 fasteners. It was never intendedthat in-process inspection completed by high quality fast
21、ener manufacturers would have to beduplicated by a laboratory. As more users requested Category 3 quality requirements, it becameapparent that a revision was needed to clarify that fasteners supplied to Category 3 are manufac-tured by an ISO 9001 (or similarly recognized) registered factory, and tha
22、t any necessary finalinspection would be completed by an accredited test facility. The Nonmandatory Appendixregarding test report contents was removed because it had not been widely accepted. Other minorchanges were made in the interests of clarity and conciseness. This revision was approved by the A

28、RS1 GENERAL INFORMATION1.1 ScopeThis quality-focused Standard establishes in-processand final inspection requirements for fastener productsas well as a receiving inspection plan for fastener pur-chasers. This Standard identifies four categories, recog-nizing that fastener users have widely varyingre

The four categories covered are as follows:(a) Category1areceiving inspection plan forpurchasers(b) Categories 2 and3utilizes documented andverifiable in-process controls structured at the produc-ers discretion(c) Category 4 includes all of the requirements ofCategory 2 plus 100% inspect

The minimum in-process requirements at eachmachine or processing station shall be as follows:(a) Five pieces shall be visually examined for grossdefects and s

Three pieces shall be verified forpart characteristics imparted to it by that machine orprocessing station in accordance with Table 1 at thefollowing times:(1) at the start of each production run(2) at the start of each new shift(3) when
44、 a tool is changed or when an adjustmentin machine setup is made(4) at the completion of each manufacturingoperationNOTE: When tungsten carbide dies are used, it is only necessaryto verify a single piece for formed dimensions.(b) During the production run, on a frequency of notless than one part per

All heat-treating processesand heat-treatment equipment shall be regularly moni-tored to ensure process control and proper

The final inspection is intended to verifylot identification and to inspect designated characteris-

Final inspection of any char-acteristic may be conducted at any point after whichthat characteristic will not be altered. Records of finalinspection shall be maintained in accordance withpara. 2.6.2.4 Acceptance and Rejection2.4.1 Raw Material.
