It is intended to serve as a guide to manufacturers of the equipment, and to thepurchasers and users of the equipment.Sta

23、cal lifting serviceinvolving material handling of freely suspended(unguided) loads using wire rope as the lifting mediumwith one of the following types of suspension:(1) lug(2) hook or clevis(3) trolley(4) base or deck mounted (does not includewinches of the type covered by ASME B30.7)(5) wall or ce

24、iling mounted (does not includewinches of the type covered by ASME B30.7)(b) This Standard is applicable to hoists manufacturedafter the date on which this Standard is issued. It is notapplicable to the following:(1) damaged or malfunctioning hoists(2) hoists that have been misused or abused(3) hois

25、ts that have been altered without authoriza-tion of the manufacturer or a qualified person(4) hoists used for lifting or supporting people(5) hoists used for the purpose of drawing both theload and the hoist up or down the hoists own wire rope(6) hoists used for marine and other applicationsas requi

26、red by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD)(c) The requirements of this Standard shall be appliedtogether with the requirements of ASME B30.16. Pleasealso refer to ASME B30.16 for requirements pertainingto marking, construction, and installation; inspection,testing, and maintenance; and operations.S

27、ECTION 6-0.2 DEFINITIONSabnormal operating conditions: environmental conditionsthat are unfavorable, harmful, or detrimental to the oper-ation of a hoist, such as excessively high or low ambienttemperatures, exposure to weather, corrosive fumes,dust-laden or moisture-laden atmospheres, and hazard-ou

28、s locations.ambient temperature: the temperature of the atmospheresurrounding the hoist.1base or deck mounted: a type of mounting where the hoistis mounted to the top side of a horizontal supportingsurface.beam: an overhead standard structural or specially fabri-cated shape on which the trolley oper

29、ates.brake: a device, other than a motor, used for retardingor stopping hoist or trolley motion by friction or powermeans.brake, holding: a friction brake for a hoist that is automati-cally applied and prevents motion when the air supplyis interrupted.brake, mechanical load: an automatic type of fri

30、ction brakeused for controlling loads in a lowering direction. Thisunidirectional device requires torque from the motor tolower a load, but does not impose additional load onthe motor when lifting a load.ceiling mounted: a type of mounting where the hoist ismounted to the underside of a horizontal s

31、upportingsurface.chain, hand: the chain provided to control movement ofa hand-chain-operated trolley.control actuator: a manual means at the operator stationby which hoist or trolley controls are energized.control braking means: a method of controlling speed byremoving energy from the moving body or

32、 by impartingenergy in the opposite direction.braking, dynamic: a method of controlling speed byusing the motor as a compressor.braking, mechanical: a method of controlling or reduc-ing speed by friction.control, pendant: a valve system, connected to the hoistor trolley by hoses, that either directl

33、y controls flow ofair to the motor or controls a pilot-operated valve systemat the motor inlet.control, pull: cords or chains suspended from the hoistby means of which a valve system on the hoist can beoperated.control, rod: a rigid rod suspended from the hoist withwhich a valve system on the hoist

34、can be operated.ASME HST-62015cushioned start: a pneumatic or mechanical method forreducing the rate of acceleration of trolley motion.hazardous (classified) locations: locations where fire orexplosion hazards may exist. Locations are classifieddepending on the properties of the flammable vapors,liq

35、uids, gases, or combustible dusts or fibers that maybe present, and the likelihood that a flammable or com-bustible concentration or quantity is present (refer toNFPA 70).Class 1 locations: locations in which flammable gasesor vapors are or may be present in the air in quantitiessufficient to produc

36、e explosive or ignitable mixtures.Class 2 locations: locations that are hazardous becauseof the presence of combustible dust.Class 3 locations: locations that are hazardous becauseof the presence of easily ignitable fibers or flyings, butin which such fibers or flyings are not likely to be insuspens

37、ion in the air in quantities sufficient to produceignitable mixtures.headroom: measured with the load hook at its upper limitof travel, headroom is the distance from the saddle ofthe load hook to the following locations (see Fig. 6-0.2-1):(a) centerline of the suspension holes on lug-suspended hoist

38、s(b) saddle of the top hook on hook-suspended hoists(c) wheel treadline on trolley-suspended hoists(d) supporting surface on base-, deck-, and ceiling-mounted hoists(e) uppermost point of hoist on wall- and ceiling-mounted hoistshoist: a suspended machinery unit that is used for liftingor lowering a

39、 freely suspended (unguided) load.hoist speed: the rate of motion of the load hook.hook suspended: suspension of the hoist from a trolley orrigid structure by means of a hook at the top of the hoist.lateral hook travel: the lateral movement of the load hookbetween its position at the upper limit of

40、travel and itsposition at the lower limit of travel.lift: the maximum vertical distance through which theload hook can travel; it is the total hook movementbetween its upper limit of travel and its position whenat the lower limit of travel (see Fig. 6-0.2-1).liftingdevices,belowthehook: devices that

41、 are not normallyreeved onto the hoist ropes, such as hook-on buckets,magnets, grabs, and other supplemental devices usedfor handling certain types of loads. The weight of thesedevices is to be considered part of the load to be lifted.limit device: a pneumatic or mechanical device for lim-iting the

42、upward or downward travel of the load hookat the extremities of lift. This device may limit lift at anypoint within the extremities of lift, if designed to beadjustable.2load: the total superimposed weight on the load blockor load hook, including lifting devices.load block: the assembly of hook or s

43、hackle, swivel, bear-ing, pins, sheaves, and frame suspended by the rope.This shall include all appurtenances reeved into theropes.load hook: the hook used to connect the load to the hoist.load suspension parts: the means of suspension (trolley,hook, or lug), the structure or housing that supports t

44、hedrum, and the drum, the rope, the sheaves, and the loadblock.lug suspended: suspension of the hoist from a trolley(s)or permanent structure by means of a bolt(s) or pin(s)through a rigid or swivel-type lug(s).minimum radius: the smallest radius of the beam, mea-sured to the centerline of the web o

45、f the beam, on whichthe trolley will operate.normal operating conditions: conditions during which ahoist is performing functions within the scope of theoriginal design.overload: any load greater than the rated load.parts (lines): number of lines of rope supporting the loadblock or hook.pitch diamete

46、r: the distance from center to center of arope passing over a sheave or wound on a drum, mea-sured across the diameter of the sheave or drum.power transmission parts: the machinery components,including the gears, shafts, clutches, couplings, bearings,motors, and brakes.qualified person: a person who

47、, by possession of a recog-nized degree or certificate of professional standing, orby extensive knowledge, training, and experience, hassuccessfully demonstrated the ability to solve or resolveproblems relating to the subject matter and work.rated air pressure: the air pressure, at the hoist inlet,

48、atwhich the hoist is designed to lift rated load at ratedspeed.rated load: the maximum load for which a hoist or trolleyis designated by the manufacturer or a qualified person.reach: the distance from the saddle of the load hook at itslower limit of travel to the upper point of the headroommeasureme

49、nt. Reach is equal to lift plus headroom (seeFig. 6-0.2-1).reeving: a system in which the wire rope travels aroundsprockets (see Fig. 6-0.2-2).double reeving: reeving in which two parts of the linelead off of the drum.single reeving: reeving in which one part of the lineleads off of the drum.rope: refers to wire rope unless otherwise specified.NOTE: Rope properties do not conform to those shown inASME B30.9.
