13、e characteristics of 200 mm (8 in) flexible disk cartridges recorded at 13 262 ftprad on one side using two-frequency recording. IS0 5654/2 specifies the quality of recorded signals, track layout, and the track format. Together with the labelling scheme specified in IS0 7665, IS0 5654/l and IS0 !X54
14、/2 provide for full data interchange between data processing systems. 1 Scope and field of application This part of IS0 5654 specifies the dimensional, physical and magnetic characteristics of the cartridge, so as to provide physical interchangeability between data processing systems. NOTE - Numeric
15、 values in the SI and/or Imperial measurements system in this International Standard may have been rounded and therefore are consistent with, but not exactly equal to, each other. Either system may be used, but the two should be neither intermixed nor reconverted. The original design was made using

18、s and retains, on the specified side or sides magnetic signals intended for input/output and storage purposes of information data pro- cessing and associates systems. 3.2 reference flexible disk cartridge : Flexible disk car- tridge arbitrarily selected for a given property for calibrating purposes.
19、 3.3 secondary reference flexible disk cartridge : Flexible disk cartridge intended for routine calibrating purposes, the performance of which is known and stated in relation to that of the reference flexible disk cartridge. 3.4 signal amplitude reference flexible disk cartridge : Reference flexible
20、 disk cartridge selected as a standard for recording field and signal amplitude. NOTE - A master standard for signal amplitudes, reference fields, overwrite and resolution characteristics has been established by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Bundesallee 190, in Braunschweig, Germa
21、ny. Secondary reference flexible disk cartridges can be ordered from PTB under part number RM 5654 as long as available. 3.5 typical field : The minimum recording field which, when applied to a flexible disk cartridge, causes a signal output equal to 95 % of the maximum average signal amplitude when
22、 taken as a function of the recording field at the specified track and flux transition frequency of that flexible disk cartridge. 3.6 reference field : The typical field of the signal amplitude reference flexible disk cartridge. 1) At present at the stage of draft. (Revision of IS0 646-1973.) 2) At
23、present at the stage of draft. (Revision of IS0 2022-1973.) 3) At present at the stage of draft. 1 IS0 5554/l-1982 (E) 3.7 test recording currents : The two recording currents between 145 % and 155 % of the currents which produce the reference field at 250 OKI flux transitions per second (ftps) on t
24、rack 06 and track 76 respectively. The first of these currents shall be used for recording on tracks 00 to 43. The second cur- rent shall be used for recording on tracks 44 to 76 (see also 8.21. 3.9 standard reference amplitudes : The average signal amplitudes derived from the signal amplitude refer
25、ence flexible disk cartridge at the density obtained when writing with 250 000 ftps on track 00 and with 500 OCMI ftps on track 76 using the appropriate test recording current for the track under test (see also 8.2). 3.9 average signal amplitude : The arithmetically- averaged value for a track of th
26、e output voltage measured peak-to-peak over the whole track. 3.10 in contact : An operating condition in which the magnetic surface of the disk intended for data storage is in physical contact with the magnetic head. 3.11 formatting : Writing the proper control information establishing the 77 physic
27、al tracks and designating the addresses of physical records on the flexible disks surfaces. 3.12 initialization : Writing of the volume label, the ERMAP label, and any other information initially required to be on the flexible disk cartridge prior to the commencement of general processing or use. 3.
28、13 recording area : That area of the disk surface with which the head may come into contact. 4 General description 4.1 General figures A typical flexible disk cartridge is represented in figures 1 to 3 as follows : - figure 1 shows the cartridge seen from above, side 0 up; - figure 2 shows section A
29、-A which is a cross-section along the line A-A in figure 1; - figure 3 shows a protective envelope with cartridge, side 1 up. 4.2 Main elements The main elements of this flexible disk cartridge are : - the recording disk; - the liner; - the jacket. The cartridge is stored in an envelope. 4.3 Descrip
30、tion The jacket is of a square form. It includes a central window, an index window and a head window in both sides. The liner is fixed to the inside of the jacket. It comprises two sheets of material between which the disk is held. The liner has the same openings as the jacket. The disk has only a c
31、entral hole and an index hole. 4.4 Optional features The interchange characteristics of the jacket allow for varia- tions of its contruction. It may include flaps, (for example, three flaps as shown in the drawings, or none), and notches along the reference edge. For conditions under which a write-
32、inhibit notch may be used, see annex D. 5 General requirements 5.1 Environment and transport 5.1.1 Testing environment Tests and measurements made on the cartridge to check the re- quirements of this International Standard shall be carried out under the following conditions : - temperature : 23 f 2
33、OC (73 + 4 OF); - relative humidity : 40 to 66 %; - conditioning before testing : 24 h minimum. The temperature and the relative humidity shall be measured in the air immediately surrounding the cartridge. The stray magnetic field at any point on the disk surface, including that resulting from the c
34、oncentrating effect of the recording head shall not exceed 4 Ooo A/m (50 Oe). 5.1.2 Operating environment Cartridges used for data interchange shall be operated under the following conditions : - temperature : 10 to 50 C (56 to 122 OF); - relative humidity : 20 to 60 %; - wet bulb temperature : n be
35、ing the numeric value corresponding to track number : n = 0 to 76. 5 IS0 5654/l-1982 (El 8.1.3.2 Track location tolerance - not less than 80 % on track 76 using 2f; For testing purposes, the centrelines of tracks recorded shall be within k 0,025 mm (k 0.001 in) of the nominal positions, when measure
36、d in the testing environment (see 5.1 .l). 8.1.4 Track number The track number shall be a two-digit decimal number (00 to 76) which identifies the tracks consecutively, starting at the outer- most track NIO). 8.1.5 Index The index is the point which determines the beginning and the end of a track. A
37、t the instant of having detected the leading edge of the index hole, the index is under the read-write gap. 8.2 Functional testing For the purposes of the following tests, the same drive unit shall be used for the writing and reading operations. 8.2.1 Surface tests The magnetic properties of the dat
38、a surface are defined by the testing requirements given below. 8.2.1 .l Test conditions The disk shall be tested at 360 f 7 rev/min. The test frequen- cies used shall be : of the appropriate standard reference amplitude. 8.2.1.4 Resolution On track 76, after recording with the appropriate test recor
39、ding current, the ratio average signal amplitude using 2f average signal amplitude using lf shall be greater than 60 % of the value of the same ratio for the signal amplitude reference flexible disk cartridge. 8.2.1.5 Overwrite On track 00, after recording with the appropriate test recording current
40、, first using lf and then overwriting using 2f for one revolution, the ratio residual average signal amplitude at lf after overwrite using 2f average signal amplitude after the first recording using lf shall be less than 100 % of the value of the same ratio for the signal amplitude reference flexibl
41、e disk cartridge. Measurements shall be made using a frequency-seiective voltmeter. 8.2.1.8 Modulation lf = 250000 k 250ftps Modulation shall be : 2f = 500 000 It 500 ftps and shall be used as specified for each test. 8.2.1.2 Typical field The typical field of the disk under test shall be within f 2
42、0 % of the reference field. It shall be measured using lf on tracks 00 and 76. 8.2.1.3 Average signal amplitude When a disk has been recorded with the test recording cur- rents, then read back on a system which has been calibrated by means of a signal amplitude reference flexible disk cartridge, rec
43、orded under the same conditions, the average signal amplitude of the disk under test shall be : - not more than 130 % on track 00 using If; maximum mean - minimum mean x 100% maximum mean + minimum mean The maximum mean shall be the average value of the amplitude-modulated output voltage in that par
44、t of the track with the maximum amplitudes, and the minimum mean shall be that in the respective part with the minimum amplitudes. Out- put voltage shall be measured peak-to-peak; averaging shall be done over about 2 000 consecutive flux transitions. On track 00 using lf and on track using 2f, modul
45、ation shall be less than 10 %. 8.2.2 Track quality test These tests shall be carried out using 2f and over all 77 usable tracks at the defined positions. The test recording currents shall be used. IS0 5654/l-1982 (E) 8.2.2.1 Missing pulse 8.2.3 Rejection criteria Write a track at 2f with the appropr
46、iate test recording current. Any playback signal, when measured base-to-peak which is less than 40 % of half the arithmetically averaged values of the output voltages measured peak-to-peak over the preceeding 2 000 consecutives flux transitions, shall be a missing pulse. 8.2.2.2 Extra pulse Write a
47、track at 2f with the appropriate test recording current. Erase for one revolution with a constant direct current equivalent to the quiescent value of the test recording current. Any playback signal, which when measured base-to-peak, in- cluding the statistical noise and the residual signal of the di
48、sk exceeds 30 % of half the average signal amplitude of the track under test, shall be an extra pulse. 8.2.3.1 Defective track A track on which one or more missing or extra pulses are detected in the same position(s) on consecutive passes shall be a defective track. The applicable number of consecut
49、ive passes shall be a matter of agreement between interested parties. 8.2.3.2 Requirements for tracks As initially received from the media supplier, cartridges shall have no defective tracks. 8.2.3.3 Rejected cartridge A cartridge which does not meet the requirements of 8.2.3.2 shall be rejected.
