、BPage11. Functional Overview1This standard describes the overall system functions, including services and features2required for interfacing a Base Station (BS) with the Mobile Switching Center (MSC).3This standard provides an understanding of the MSC-BS interface. Establishing a4standard MSC-BS Inte

、rface allows the BS and MSC equipment to evolve5independently and to be provided by multiple vendors.61.1 Purpose7The purpose is to provide the standard for the interfacing of an MSC with one or more8BSs. This document defines the functional capabilities, including services and features,9of the MSC-

、BS Interface. These services and features are the defining characteristics10that are the basis for the overall system standard for the MSC-BS Interface.11The MSC-BS Interface is defined as the interface that provides telecommunications12services access between a Base Station and a Mobile Switching C

、enter. It specifically13represents the demarcation point between the BS and the MSC which coincides with14the Reference Point “A“ as depicted in the Telecommunications Industry Association15(TIA) TR45 Network Reference Model (NRM), see Figure 1-3. This point establishes16the technical interface and

、designates the test points and operational division of17responsibility between the BS and the MSC.18This MSC-BS Interface standard document fulfills the following criteria:191. supports future MSC and BS implementations;202. supports current and future air interfaces;213. makes maximum use of existi

、ng standards from the22Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and other sources;234. promotes reliability enhancement, technical innovation, network24product availability, and economic competition;255. allows connection of various manufacturers BSs to the same MSC;266. allows the separate evo

、lution of MSC and BS technology.271.2 Scope28This standard provides the specification for the MSC-BS Interface which coincides29with the Reference Point “A“ defined in the TR45 Network Reference Model shown in30Figure 1-3.31TIA/EIA-634.000-BPage 2The scope of this standard includes the following top
