20、TERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL INTRODUCTION 1 Scope 1.1 These requirements cover metal safety cans that have nominal capacities of ve gallons (18.9 L) or less and that are primarily intended to store and handle ammable and combustible liquid

21、s, such as gasoline, naphtha, kerosene, acetone, MEK, and similar liquids in accordance with the Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code, NFPA 30. 1.1 revised November 30, 2000 1.2 These requirements cover safety cans made in either of two types, designated herein as Type I and Type II. 1.3 Deleted D

24、his standard the following denitions apply. 3.2 CAPACITY, NOMINAL The marked maximum volume of liquid that can be contained in a can. The term rated capacity or maximum lling level may also be used. 3.3 SAFETY CAN, TYPEIAc a nhaving a short valved spout that may be adapted to both pouring and lling.

25、 3.4 SAFETY CAN, TYPE II A can equipped with a exible or a rigid tubular nozzle attached to a valved spout adapted to pouring only. 3.5 VOLUME, TOTAL The volume equal to the nominal capacity of the can plus any space remaining within the can. CONSTRUCTION 4 Sizes 4.1 The total volume of a can shall

26、be sufficient to contain the total volume of liquid corresponding to the nominal capacity of the can. 5 General 5.1 The minimum width or diameter of the base of a can shall not be less than 85 percent of the height of the body. 5.2 An opening shall be above the highest intended liquid level. The ope

27、ning shall not be provided with a removable plug or with a stuffing box leading directly into the can. 5.3 Each opening shall have an automatic valve that remains closed with the can placed in any position. The valve shall be capable of being opened manually. 5.4 A can having a nominal capacity of 1

28、.1 quarts (1 L) or less shall not have more than one opening. The opening shall be adapted for pouring and lling. 5.4 revised September 1, 1999 5.5 A can having a nominal capacity of more than 1.1 quarts (1 L) shall not have more than two openings. 5.5 revised September 1, 1999 5.6 Separate pouring

29、and lling valves shall operate independently of each other. 5.7 A spout used for lling, or a separate ll opening, shall be constructed so that the use of a funnel or other article during a lling operation will not interfere with free venting of the can. 30、L COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL 5.8 A pouring spout shall be constructed to reduce the likelihood of spillage during pouring. 5.9 A Type II can shall incorporate a vent valve to permit the free discharge of liquid during a pou

31、ring operation. The vent valve shall open and close automatically and simultaneously with the opening and closing of the pouring valve. 5.10 An operating part of a can shall be constructed to reduce the likelihood of unintended opening of a valve. 5.11 Internal pressure in excess of 5 psig (34 kPa)

32、shall be relieved by overcoming the spring pressure on the pouring- or lling-valve closure, or through an independent pressure-relief device. 5.12 Deleted November 30, 2000 6 Tops, Bottoms, and Bodies 6.1 The top, bottom, and body of a can shall be of either: a) Sheet brass, copper, or stainless ste

33、el, or b) Sheet steel provided with a corrosion-resistant coating that complies with the requirements in Corrosion-Resistant Coatings, Section 15. 6.2 The thickness of sheet metal shall at no point be less than the appropriate value specied in Table 6.1. 6.3 The thickness of the metal is to be deter

34、mined by ve micrometer readings made at points spaced equally along the edge of the full piece as rolled. Measurements are to be made not less than 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) from a cut edge and not less than 3/4 inch (19.1 mm) from a mill edge. For drawn parts, the measurements are to be made after drawing.

35、 For painted parts, the thickness is to be measured under the paint. 6.4 The bottom surface of a can shall be recessed at least 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) above the bottom perimeter of the sidewall to reduce the likelihood of puncturing or abrading the bottom. 6.5 The bottom edge of a can having a nominal ca

36、pacity of 3 gallons (11.4 L) or more shall be reinforced or shall be provided with a metal support ring. 39、inch (3.2 mm) beyond the bottom edge of the can, and d) Be secured in place. 7 Seams and Joints 7.1 Seams and joints in the top, body, and bottom of a can shall be welded, brazed, or lock-seamed. A lock-seamed joint shall be sweated with solder. Exception: A container employing unsoldered lock-seams

40、 that complies with the Drop Test, Section 18, need not have the lock seams sweated with solder. 7.2 A formed, circumferential top or bottom seam shall have strength equivalent to that of a double standing seam. A formed, vertical seam shall have strength equivalent to that of an offset hook seam. T

41、he metal overlap of a formed seam shall not be less than 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) wide. 8 Pouring Spouts and Fill Fittings 8.1 A pouring spout or ll tting shall be of corrosion-resistant metal or of ferrous metal that is provided with a corrosion-resistant coating that complies with the requirements in Cor

42、rosion-Resistant Coatings, Section 15. 8.2 A cast pouring spout or ll tting shall not be less than 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) thick. The wall thickness of tubing or other drawn material shall not be less than 0.05 inch (1.3 mm). 8.3 The internal diameter of a ll tting shall not be less than the appropriate v

43、alue specied in Table 8.1. 45、osion-resistant coating that complies with the requirements in Corrosion-Resistant Coatings, Section 15. 9.2 The metal used in a exible nozzle shall not be less than 0.015 inch (0.38 mm) thick. A rigid nozzle shall not be less than 0.035 inch (0.89 mm) thick. 9.2 revised September 1, 1999 9.3 The di

46、scharge end of a exible nozzle shall be provided with a ferrule of corrosion-resistant metal. The ferrule shall be secured in place and shall enclose all sharp or projecting edges. 9.3.1 Deleted November 30, 2000 9.3.2 Deleted November 30, 2000 9.4 The valve or inlet end of a exible nozzle shall be

47、supported or reinforced by a closely wound external helical spring. The spring shall not be less than 3 inches (76.2 mm) long and shall be secured in place. 9.5 A nozzle shall be secured to a tting constructed for attachment to the pouring spout. This tting, in turn, shall be attached to the pouring

48、 spout by a method that provides a permanent connection that is free from leakage. Also, see Flexible Nozzle Test, Section 23. 9.6 A nozzle intended for use in automotive fueling applications for pouring directly into the fuel tank of a vehicle requiring unleaded gasoline shall have a maximum outsid

49、e diameter of 0.86 inch (21.8 mm).
