、s standard establishes general safety requirements for all waste containers commonly used in the collection, processing and disposal of solid wastes, in residential, commercial and industrial applications. These containers may also be used in conjunction with both mobile and stationary lifting, dump
、ing, and transportation technologies. This standard is intended to assist manufacturers, installers, modifiers, service organizations, owners, employees and the general public in the production, maintenance, and use of equipment and is protective of persons whose activities may require them to use o
、r otherwise come in contact with these containers. This standard was developed by Z245. Subcommittee on Container safety In addition to the subcommittee members, the following organizations also participated in the preparation of this standard: the Container, Mobile Equipment, and Processing Equipme
、nt Committees of the Waste Equipment Technology Association (WASTEC) and independent manufacturers of waste containers. This standard replaces ANSI Z245.30-1999, For Refuse Collection, Processing, and Disposal Equipment Waste Containers Safety Requirements, through incorporation of the requirements
、of that standard into the clauses of this new document. Equipment manufactured in accordance with the earlier document will comply with the stability provisions of this document. Because of the difficulty of changing manufacturers production lines to incorporate the provisions that are either new or
、 are revisions of clauses of ANSI Z245.30-1999, the following effective dates have been established by the Accredited Standards Committee Z245: - the provisions of this standard shall apply to all newly manufactured containers and two-wheeled cart lifting systems manufactured twelve (12) months afte
、r this standard is approved by the American National Standards Institute; - for all existing containers and two-wheeled cart lifting systems manufactured during the period of October 20, 2000 until 12 months after the approval date of this standard, the provisions of ANSI Z245.30-1999 shall apply; -
、 for all existing containers and two-wheeled cart lifting systems manufactured during the period of May 12, 1995 until October 20, 2000, the provisions of ANSI Z245.30-1994 shall apply; - for all existing containers and two-wheeled cart lifting systems, regardless of the date of manufacture, the pro
、visions of the following clauses shall apply 12 months after the approval date of this standard: Clauses 4.3, 4.4, and 4.5, and Clause 6 and all of its sub-clauses. Four-wheeled or slant-sided refuse bins manufactured or in use prior to May 12, 1995 are subject to the requirements of ANSI Z245.3-197

、Standard for Equipment Technology and Operations for Wastes and Recyclable Materials Waste Containers Safety Requirements 0 Introduction This standard was developed by American National Standards Institute Accredited Standards Committee Z245 Subcommittee 3 on Waste Container Safety and approved by A
、ccredited Standards Committee Z245. This standard revises the waste container safety requirements found in ANSI Z245.30-1999 by providing specific requirements for construction and use of waste containers in solid waste and recycling operations. This standard complements ANSI Z245.60-2006, which det
、ails the dimensions of waste containers to assist in the compatibility of waste containers and the vehicles employed in the collection and lifting operations associated with specific containers. Exceptions and notes contained in the standard apply to the clause or sub-clause in which they are contai
、ned or to which they reference. Exceptions pertain to normative requirements. Notes are informative and provide guidance for the evaluation of a normative requirement. The units of distance measurement used in this standard are in the inch-pound system. When a value for measurement is followed by a
、value in other units in parentheses, the second value is only approximate. The first value is the requirement. 1 Scope 1.1 This standard establishes safety requirements with respect to the manufacture, reconstruction, use, modification, maintenance, service, operation, and installation (where applic
、able) of containers, two-wheeled carts, and two-wheeled cart lifters. This standard is applicable to all persons engaged in the manufacture, modification, operation, use cleaning, maintenance, service or repair of containers and cart lifters which are used in conjunction with the collection, process
、ing and disposal (including the diversion of wastes for recycling) of municipal, commercial and industrial solid wastes by private companies and public entities. Containers may vary widely as to size, design and other characteristics. Figures 1a and 1b illustrate examples of various types of contain
、ers which are in the scope of this standard. 1.2 This standard does not apply to containers intended for use by householders for their individual use which are not to be handled by mechanical container lifting and dumping mechanisms.
