SCOPE. 1.1 Thi
2、s CID covers the general requirements for ready-to-use, aqueous solutions, dispersions or emulsions for preservative treatment of wood by non- pressure methods, primarily for use in the treatment of wood pallets, containers, and packing materials. 2. CLASSIFICATION. 2.1 Waterborne wood preservatives
3、 covered by this Commercial Item Description shall be of the following compositions: Composition E - Zn naphthenate Composition F - Cu naphthenate Composition G - Copper-8-quinolinolate 3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. 3.1 Materials. The composition and quantity shall be supplied as specified in the cont
4、ract or order (see 7.3). 3.1.1 Comoosition E. The treating solution containing Zn naphthenate shall be an emulsion of Zn naphthenate and shall contain not less than 3%, by weight, of Zn in accordance with AWPA A9 or AWPA All. The treating solution containing Cu naphthenate shall be either an aqueous solution, dispersion or emulsipn of Cu naphthenate and
7、 shall contain not less than 2%, by weight, of Cu in accordance with either AWPA AS, AWPA A9, or AWPA All. 3.1.3 ComDosition G. The treating solution containing Cu-8-quinolinolate shall be an aqueous solution of dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid (DDBSAI-solubilized Cu 8-quinolinolate and shall contain no
8、t less than 1.8% copper-8-quinolinolate, by weight, in accordance with either AWPA A5, AWPA A9, or AWPA All. 3.2 Drvincr time. The treating solution on the surface of the treated wood shall not be tacky within 72 hours after treatment. 3.3 Corrosion. Wood preservatives shall create no chemical react
9、ion, with any hardware used in packaging design, that would cause pitting or oxidation. 3.4 Color. The color of the solution shall be sufficiently clear as not to change the color of the wood when the solution is applied; however, it should be noted that Compositions F and G impart a green color to
10、the wood. 3.5 Solvents. The principal carrier for treating solutions shall be water. Where emulsions or dispersions of organic materials in water are used, the organic solvent“ preservative. A dispersing agent is defined as the substance, when mixed with the preservative concentrate, causes the pres
11、ervative concentrate to disperse easily when mixed with water. Organic solvents shall be sufficiently pure so they do not cause any objectionable odor or cause the treated material on which it is applied, to have objectionable odors or irritation. is defined as the solvent for the organic wood 3.6 P
12、reservative effectiveness. All compositions shall provide a minimum of 2 years protection, when applied to an untreated wood surface with one single application, under uncontrolled exposure, in temperate and tropical environments. Accelerated aging of wood preservatives shall be determined by testin
13、g in accordance with ASTMD-822-96. 3.7 Registration. All preservatives shall be registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and must be used in accordance with the EPA label. 4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum exte
14、nt practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal.Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 5. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS. 5.1 Product Conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description (CID), conform to the producers own drawings, sp
15、ecifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 5.2 Market accemabiiitv criteria. The item offered must have been sold to the government or commercial

Products meeting the requirements of this CID may be subject to the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.1200 and FED-STD-
21、313 for Material Safety Data Sheets. 7.5 Hazardous material. Products meeting the requirements of this CID may be subjected to the requirements of 49CFR 107 and other applicable provisions. 7.6 Toxicolosical data. Toxicological product formulations and associated information may be required for revi
22、ew by the contracting activity to evaluate the safety of the material for the purpose used. ASTM D-5276-94 may be used in connection with any packaging design for this evaluation as determined by the contracting activity. 7.7 Treatments. The preservative covered by this CID is normally used to provi
23、de a moderate degree of protection when an item is exposed to wetting.
