SCOPE. This commercial item description
2、 covers the requirements for pitons which are used for protecting climbers on steep rock routes by placing the pitons into cracks in the rock. 2. CLASSIFICATION. The pitons will be furnished in the following types and sizes: 2.1 Types. Type I Flat Type II Offset 2.2 Sizing. Type I Sizes 1-6 Type II
3、Sizes 1-6 3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. The pitons design shall provide ease of use with the typical combat gloves. 3.1 Type I. The piton shall be a flat blade-shaped design. The pitons width shall taper from the eye to the end. There shall be one carabiner hole on the main blade perpendicular to the
4、width of the blade. The pitons thickness shall be tapered along its length from the eye to the end. The pitons thickness shall be measured at the blades midpoint. 7、haracteristics Type I 3.1.2 Type II. The piton shall be a flat blade-shaped design with a rounded offset 90 degrees to the blade. The pitons width shall taper from the eye to the end. There shall be two carabiner holes, one on the offset and another adjacent to the offset on the main blade. The pito
8、ns thickness shall be tapered along its length from the eye to the end. The pitons thickness shall be measured directly above the hole in line with the blade of the piton. The Type II piton shall be as light-weight as possible, while meeting the standards described in the description in Table II. TA
9、BLE II. Physical characteristics Type II 3.2 Color. The pitons shall be provided in a low reflectance, matte finish and provide low contrast with typical use terrain. 3.3 Materials. 3.3.1 Basic Material The pitons shall be chromium-molybdenum alloy 4130 steel with a black oxide finish. 3.4 Tests. Th
10、e piton shall meet the breaking strength and design requirements of International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (Union Internationale des Association dAlpinisme) - UIAA Standard 122 3.5 Workmanship. The finished anchor rock piton shall conform to the quality of product established by this c

REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximu
13、m extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 4.1 Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials. Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials should be used to the maximum extent possible, provided that the mater
14、ial meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance requirements and promotes economically advantageous life cycle costs. 5. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE PROVISIONS. 5.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description, conform to the prod
15、ucers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 5.2 Visual examination. Each piton shall be examined for the following defec
