27、.6 Snap fasteners. The snap fasteners for type I, sizes 8, 10, 11 and 12 covers shall be brass, style 3, finish 1 (bright brass), male and female, conforming to MIL-F-10884. 3.2 Stitches, seams and stitching. All stitches, seams and stitching except bartacking shall be performed using stitch type 30
28、1 or 401 of FED-STD-751 with 10 to 14 stitches per inch. 3.2.1 Automatic stitching. Any of the stitching operations may be performed with an automatic machine provided the requirements for stitch pattern, stitches per inch, size and type of thread are met; and at least three or more tying, overlappi
29、ng or backstitches are used to secure the ends of stitching. 3.2.2 Type 301 stitching. Thread breaks and two or more consecutive skipped stitches or runoffs shall be overstitched not less than 1/2-inch back of break. Ends of stitching shall be backstitched or backtacked not less than 1/2-inch where
30、ends are not caught in other seams and stitching. 3.2.3 Type 401 stitching. Thread breaks in stitching shall be overstitched in each direction not less than l-inch at each break. The looper thread shall be on the inside of the cover. Breaks or skip stitching may be repaired with stitch type 301. 3.2
31、.4 Bartacking. Bartacking shall be 1/2 2 1/16-irich in length, and 1/8 + 1/32-inch in width and shall contain 28 stitches. thread breaks and loose stitching. Bartacking shall be free of 3.2.5 Thread tensions. Thread tensions shall be maintained so that there will be no loose or excessively tight sti
32、tching resulting in puckering of the materials sewn. All thread ends shall be trimmed to 1/4-inch maximum length. 3.3 Identification marking. The markings shall be in the format and size of characters specified in 3.3.1 and 3.3.2, and shall conform to type III or IV, class 9 of DDD-L-20 and shall sh
33、ow fastness as specified for class 5 labels. 3.3.1 Military Medical Services. Type I covers shall be rectangular- shaped, with boxed corners and lapped side seams and shall have either snap fasteners (see 3.4*7) or tie tapes (see 3.4.6 and figure 1) as, applicable for closing the overlap slit. 3.4.1 Size. All four corners shall be seamed completely across using seam type SSc-2 or SSe-2 stitch type 301 or 401. side slit end openings where overlap seam joins on top side of mattress cover. Each side bartack shall be placed in a perpendicular direction to the top hem edge of the slip
43、opening, 1/16 to 1/8-inch from hem edge and 1/8 to 3/16-inch in from side vertical box hem edge. Bartack is not to extend over the overlap seam and shall conform to 3.2.4. The finished corners shall measure not less thau dimemhn D, as shown in table I for each of the given sizes. A bartack shall be
44、placed on both top 3.4.6 Tie tapes. The type I, size 2 through 6 and size 14 covers shall have tie tapes for closing the overlap slit. One end of each of the tie tapes shall be hemmed with stitching type EFb-1, 1/8 to 3/32 inch with stitch type 301; or as an alternate, bartacked with a 1/2-inch bart
45、ack centered on the tape (see 3.2.4). other end of the tapes shall be turned under 3/4 2 1/8-inch and the tape bartacked to the center line (+ 1/8-inch) of the hem 1/8 to 3/16-inch from the turned edge. The tapes shall be bartacked to the hem at the center line with two bartacks spaced 1/2 + l/l6-in
46、ch, extending across the full width of the tape. One tape shall be fastened to the under side of the top overlap at the center and one tape midway (plus or minus ?/2-inch) between the center and each respective side edge. tapes shall be similarly located on the bottom flap, as shown on figure 1. of

49、 tapes for closing the flap opening as shown on figure 2. 3.5.1 Size. The size and dirhnsions of the finished covers shall be as shown in table II.
