2、f the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE * 1.1 Scope. This specification covers gasoline engine driven cargo and passenger carrying, full tracked, all-terrain vehicles with a payload as defined in Table I. Vehicles procured under this specification are commercial items which shall be warranted by the m

3、anufacturer as specified in acquisition documents. * 1.2 Classification. The carriers shall be one of the following types as specified (see 6.2). Type I - Carrier, cargo, flatbed, with 2-man cab. Type II - Carrier, cargo and passenger, fully enclosed, with driver, passenger, and 2-place seating leng

4、th (6 to 8 man capacity). cab. Type III - Carrier, cargo, flatbed, with 2-man cab and 3-man crew 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 Government documents. * 2.1.1 Specifications and standards. The following specifications and standards form a part of this specification to the extent specified herein. Unless

Except as specified in 3.1.1 through 3.1.1.4, the vehicle, components, assemblies, and accessories to be delivered under the contract shall be standard or o

21、ptional items which meet or exceed the requirements of this specification. All chassis items shall be as represented in the chassis manufacturers technical data, and special bodies or mounted equipment shall be as represented in the body and equipment manufacturers technical data. Technical data sha

22、ll be limited to specifications and technical material, identical to that furnished to the authorized company representatives for selection of vehicle models and components and shall be available in the engineering offices of the procuring activity, prior to delivery of the items. The chassis model

23、furnished shall be not older than the chassis manufacturers current model on the date of invitation for bids. 3*1*1 Special requirements. In addition to the standard vehicle and coinponents specified in 3.1, the vehicle shall be furnished with special equipment as specified herein, J: 3.1.1.1 Painti

24、ng and marking. The vehicle shall be treated, painted and marked in accordance with MIL-STD-1223. the procuring activity for the appropriate military service (see 6.2), the exterior color and the identification markings shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-1223. As specified, by * 3.1.1.2 Rustproofin

25、g. When specified (see 6.2), the vehicle shall be rustproofed in accordance with the truck requirements of FED-STD-297. * 3.1.1.3 Instruction plates. The equipment shall be provided with instruction plates describing special or important procedures for operating and servicing equipment and warnings

26、of hazardous procedures. Each control lever shall be marked with a plate depicting the function of the control. Individual markings shall be adjacent to each control. The plates shall be durable and legible throughout the life of the equipment. The plates shall be conspicuously located. Plates and m

27、arkings shall confrom to composition A (class 1 or 2) or composition C of MIL-P-514. 3.1.1.4 Spark arrester muffler. The vehicle interior sound level shall conform to te requirements of MIL-STD-1474, table 2, category D (less

The curb weight shall include the weight of the chassis and cab, with all attachments, accessories, and equipment (whether standard or manufacturers option); the body; and a full complement of fuel, lubricants and coolant. * 3.2.4 Payload. The payload shall be only

31、 the weight of the driver, passengers and cargo being transported. No part of the vehicle shall be included in the payload weight. * 3.2.5 Vehicle weights and dimensions. Vehicle weights and dimensions shall be as specified in table I. * 3.2.6 Accessibility. The design of the vehicle and optional eq

33、MIL- C-6 2 3 2 6 13 3 . 3 Perf ormance. * 3.3.1 Speed. The vehicle shall transport the minimum payload over smooth, level, hard surfaces at: speeds up to 20 miles per hour (mph). * 3.3.2 Temperature variance. The vehicle shall operate in ambient air temperatures of plus 120 degrees Fahrenheit (OF) t

34、o minus 65OF. When in storage, the vehicle shall withstand climatic extremes as specified in MIL-STD-210, without deterioration that could cause failure of any component part of the vehicle. * 3.3.3 Obstacles. With the minimum payload specified in table I, the vehicle shall climb, either in a head-o

35、n or diagonal approach, a vertical barrier 10 inches in height. The vehicle shall ford streams and open water up to 14 inches deep. 3.3.4 Climbing ability. With the minimum payload specified in table I, the vehicle shall climb a hard surface grade of not less than 75 percent without stalling or dama

36、ging the power plant or running gear. Side hill ability shall be not less than 55 percent on hard surface grades . 3.3.5 Turning radius. The carrier shall be capable of short radius turns to the right and left which shall be not more than a radius of 10 feet, as measured from the pivot point to the

37、inside edge of the inner track. 3.4 Chassis components. * 3.4.1 Engine, The intermittent brake horsepower and speed rating of the engine shall be in excess of that required to meet the operational requirements of the vehicle. The engine shall be an air- or a water-cooled, four-stroke cycle, gasoline

38、 type of not less than 120 horsepower. The engine shall be of a commercial design that has been proven satisfactory in extensive use, and for which repair parts are readily obtainable. The cooling system shall be such that the engine will operate satisfactorily in ambient temperatures between minus

39、65OF and plus 120F. The engine shall have not less than six cylinders and not less than a 258 cubic inch displacement. Engine hood insulation shall be provided to decrease heat transfer from the engine compartment to the driver. Insulation shall be standard type used in automobiles and trucks; carpe

40、t; or a combination thereof. The design of the insulation shall cake into account any potential fire hazard. The engine shall be complete with all accessories normally furnished with the engine, including a fuel filter located between the fuel tank and the carburetor. A hand throttle sufficient to r

A coolant heater, an engine oil heater, a transmission heater and a drive unit heater shall be provided. battery heater shall be provided. alternating current (ac), and shall be wired through a junction block to a single th

43、ree-pronged (male), weatherproof, slave receptacle for receiving external power and grounding the vehicle. A three-wire connecting cable, 25 feet long and of adequate line capacity to supply power for all heater units simultaneously, shall be furnished. Connecting cable shall include a matching fema

44、le connector at the vehicle end and a standard, three-pronged (two power plus one ground) male connector at the other end. Electrical apparatus shall conform to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation 393.77()(7). insulation of connecting cable shall withstand normal operating stresses in low ambien

45、t air temperatures (down to minus 60F) without cracking or loss of dielectric capacity. All heater lead wires shall be installed without interfering with vehicle component operation and without loose excess wire. Provisions for stowage of the cable shall be provided in the vehicle cab. Heaters shall

46、 be furnished as follows: Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), a Heaters shall operate on 110 volts Electrical (a) A coolant heater, 1,500-watt minimum rating, shall be installed in the engine block or in the lower coolant inlet hose. to 195OF shall be installed with 170F to 195F thermostat, shall

48、adequate to maintain the battery electrolyte at a temperature of not less than 10F during vehicle exposure in ambient air temperature as low as minus 60F, and with a thermostat to limit the temperature of the electrolyte to not more than 80F.
