2、all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1.1 Scope.-This specification contains requirements not covered by the drawings and provides quality assurance provisions for the fabrication of a case, cartridge, 105mm, M148AlBl. 2. REOUIREMENTS 3.1 General.-The cartrj-dge case shall comply with the require- ments of the applicable drawings, reference specifications and the following: 2 Licensed by Information Handling Servic

10、es- MIL-C-63292 13 9999906 03Y7281 9 1 MIL-C-63 29 2 (AR) 3.2 Material-The supplier shall be responsible for selecting from the classj.fication .ist contai-ned j.n the raw material specifications, the surface and physical condition of the raw mater ia1 htended for use %n manufacture. 3.3 Mechanical

11、Droperties.-The mechanical- properties specified on the app.l.i.cab1.e drawinqs and referenced specif ;.cations shall be un if orm throughout each sec ti on. subjected to a tilermal treatment after the heading operation by heating above the upper critical temperature point, quenchinq and temperinq t

12、o the desired properties. 3.3.3. Stress relief.-The cartriodge case shall he adequately stress relieved at the times and temperatures suitable for develop- ment of desired oroperties. 3.4 Protective coating.-Protective coating as specified on the applicable r?rawings and reference specifications sha

13、ll apply to all surfaces of the cartridge case regardless of contour configuration and shall be uniform and continuous. Scratches exposing base metal wi.l.l not be permitted. 3.3.1 Thermal treatment.-The entire cartridge case shall he 3.5 Maximum profile and alignment.-Maximum profile and alignment

15、1 Obturation.-The cartridge case shall effectively seal the breech of the weapon against leakage of gases generated during firing . 3.6.3, Soundness.-After firing, the cartridge case shall be free of cracks or spl-its. extracted by the service extractors when the weapon is operated in tile norma!. m

Requirements for the submission of first article samples by the contractor shall be as specified in the contract. 3.8 Workmanship.-The requirements for workmanship are as specified on the applicable drawj.ngs, referenced specifications and the f

18、ollowing: 3.8.3. Metal defects.-The cartrj.dge case shall be free from cracks, bl.isteta, seams, laminations, deep scratches or porosity. 3.5.2 Flow of metal-The flow of metal the section of the cartridge case joining the head and sLdewa1-1 shall. follow the direction of the contour of the interior

19、curved surface without presence of folds, cold shuts or roughness. 3.5.3 Threads.-Threads shall be full. and undamaged or the entire minimum length or depth as required by the applicable rllravjnq and specifications. 3.8.4 Burr.-No cartrj.clge case sha1.l have a burr. 3.8.5 Foreign matter.-No cartri

20、dge case shall contain chips, dirt, grease, oil, rust, corrosion, or other foreign matter. 4 QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1. Responsibj.l.ity for inspection and standard qualitv assurance provisions.-Unless otherwise specjfied herein or in the contract, the provisions of MIL-A-48078 shall app1.y a

21、nd are hereby made a part of this detail specifjcation. 4.2 Classificatjon of inspections.-The foSlowing types of inspection shal.1 be conducted on this item: a. First Article Inspection h. Qualitv Conformance Inspection 4.3 First article inspection 4.3.1 Submission.-The contractor shall submit a fi

22、rst article sample as designated by the Contracting Officer for evaluation in accordance with provisions of 4.3.2. 25、9 2 (AR 1 4.4 Qualitv conformance inspection 4.4.1 Lot formation.-Lots shall compl-y with the lot formation provisions of MIL-A-48078. In addition one lot of cartrj.dge cases shall consist of not more than 25,000 units. 4.4.2 ExaminatLon.-See MIL-A-48078. a. Sampling plans.-Unless otherwise specifie

26、d in the Classi- fi.cation of Defects and test tables, sampling plans and procedured for major and minor defects shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-7.05, Inspection Level II. (see Dwg. 105227991 shall be gaged during First Article testing and prior to each 8 hours shift production on each machine i

27、n operation and prior to any tooling change. Where destruction of components is necessary to inspect these.dimensions, measurements of t9e tool mav be substituted provided the contractor has established correlation between the tool dimensions and the component dimenS.ions prior to the start of produ

28、ctjon. The contractor shall. be responsible for maintaining adequate surveillance to assure that drawing require- ments are being met throughout the life of the tool. Corrective action will immediately be instituted by the contractor whenever a defective tool control dimension is found. All material

29、 produced prior to periodic inspection will be rejected and screened whenever a defective tool control dimension is found. 5. 33、 2 9 2 (AR) 4.4,3 Testing.-Testing is described in the First Article and Qualitv Conformance Inspec tion tables. 4.4.3.1 Functional tests.-The following proving qround tests 4.4.3.1.1 First article sample.-The quantities listed in Table will be performed by the Government: I will be balli.sticalJ-v

35、he head 1 4. Extraction O 5. Primer retention O 4.4.3.1.2 Production lot.-One hundred cartridge cases from each lot (see 4.4.7.1, will .be ballisticallv tested in the excess pressure phase. Acceptance and rejection criteria shall be in accordance with ?able III. If after the first submission the lot

36、 is eligible for retest (did not meet the reject criteria) an additional two hundred samples shall be prov!-ded for test. 38、-C-63292 (AR) 4.4.4 Inspection equipment.-The inspection equipment required to perform the examinations and tests Prescribed herein is described in the “Paragraph Ref erence/Inspectj.on.*Method“ column in the tables starting with paragraph 4.4.2.1. The contractor shall submit for approval inspec tio

39、n equipment designs j n accordance wi th the terms of the contract. See Section Fi of MIL-A-48078 and 6.8 herein. 4.5 Test methods and procedures 4.5.1. Thermal. treatment.-Each cartridge case shall be subjected to a hardness comparator test of a non-destructive type approved by the Contracting Offi

40、cer. 4.5.2 Hiqh stress expansion test.-Each cartridge case in the lot (see 4.4.1) after heat treatment- but prior to tapering shall be subjected to this test. The cartridge case shall be expanded diametrically ,050 inches (1.27mm) minimum while under pressure in a zone extending from 1.5 inches (38.

41、10mm) above the flange to 9 inched (228.60mml above the flange, expansjon will decrease as the flange is approached, expansion at flange to be zero. 45.3 Hardness test.-This test shall be performed on locations specified by Dwg. SO522799 in accordance with the procedures for Rockwell Hardness Testin

42、g prescribed by ASTM E-18. 4.5.4 Tension test.-The test specimens shall be taken from the cartridge case in accordance with the standard position and size of the tensile specimen chart described in Fjgure I. The yield strength, tensile strength and elongation shall be determined in accordance with t

43、he procedures prescribed by ASTM E-8, The results shall be recorded for information only. 4.5.5 Macro examination.-Each sample shall be cut in PO degree (l.5708 rad) sections along the axis through the primer hole of the sample cartridge case. The specimens shall be etched in accordance with the pro

44、cedures prescribed for this test by ASTM E381 and visually examined to determine compliance with 3.8.2. 4.5.6 Protective coating.-The criteria specified by the applicable specification shall be utilized in determinjna the acceptabil it? of the protective coating. a K- Y Licensed by Information Handl

The thickness of the coating shall be determined by the method specified in t

46、he appl.lcable specif icati on. the requirements of the applicable specff ication shall be cause for rejection of the lot. 4.5.6.2 Salt spray.-Five cartrldge cases from each lot (see 4.4.3.) shaJ.1 he subjected to this test. The samples shall be tested using the criteria and equipment specified for

47、this test hv ASTM B-117. The inner surface as well as the outer surface of the case will be examined for compliance with the requirements of the applicable specification. Failure of any speciment to comply with the requirements of the apDlicable drawing and specification shall , . be cause for rejec

48、tion of the lot. . 4.5.7 Visual standards.-Each cartridge case shall be visually examined for workmanship and cracks. The cartridge case shall comply with the requirekents of 3.8 or established visual standards. The visual standards shall be mutually agreed upon between the government and the contra

49、ctor. 4.5.7.1 Cracks detection.-Four power (4x1 magnification shall- be used in the examination of the exterior surface of the sidewall. for a minimum distance of eight inches (203.20mm) forward of the base Iflange). All other surfaces mav be examined without mag n i f i ca ti on. 4.5.8 Maximum profile and alignment gage.-Each cartridge case, after the application of the protective coating shall. freely enter a maximum profile and alignment gage, Dwg. 8563760.
