The cartridge case shall comply with the requirements of the applicable drawings and referenced specifications. 3.2 Material. The sup
15、plier shall be responsible for selecting from the classification list contained in the raw material specifications, the surface and physical condition of the raw material i used in manufacture. 4 3.3 Mechanical properties. The mechanical properties specified p.* on drawings and referenced specificat
16、ions shall be uniform throughout each section. 3.4 Protective coating. Protective coating as specified on drawings and referenced specifications shall apply to all surfaces of the cartridge case regardless of contour configuration and shall be uniform and continuous. Scratches exposing base metal ar
17、e not permitted. 3.5 Assembly tightness. The case shall be assembled in such a manner that there is no relative rotation between the base, the cup, and the body when a torque of 75+5 - in.-lbs. is applied to the base. 3.6 Maximum profile and alignment. Maximum profile and alignment of the cartridge
18、case shall comply with chamber gage drawing 11735736. 3.7 Ballistics. The cartridge case shall comply with the requirements of 3.7.1 through 3.7.5 when subjected to ballistic testing in, accordance with 4.6.7 in the following phases: l I I i I l I I I I i. a. After firing, the cartridge case shall be extracted by the service extractors when the gun is operated in the normal manner. 3.7.3 Primer retention. The cartridge case shall retain its primer during firing and extraction. 3.7.4 Propellant
21、 gas leakage. The cartridge case shall effectively prevent the entry of propellant gas through or between case components into the gun chamber. 3.7.5 Cracks or splits. After firing, the cartridge case shall be free of cracks or splits through all body plies. 3.8 Workmanship. The requirements for wor
22、kmanship are as specified on drawings, referenced specifications and the following: 3.8.1 Metal defects. The cartridge case shall be free of cracks, blisters, laps, deep scratches, dents, embedded foreign matter, porosity, and other metal defects. 3.8.2 Burrs. No cartridge case shall have any burrs.
23、 3.8.3 Foreign matter. No cartridge case shall contain chips, dirt, grease, oil, rust, corrosion, or other foreign matter. 3.9 First article inspection. This specification contains technical provisions for first article inspection. Requirements for the submission of first article samples by the cont
24、ractor shall be as specified in the contract. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements (examinations and tests) as specified herein
25、. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspec

27、0 (AR) 4.2 Responsibility for compliance. All items shall meet all 0 requirements of sections 3 and 5. The inspection set forth in this specification shall become a part of the contractors overall inspection system or quality program. The absence of any inspection requirements in the specification s
28、hall not relieve the contractor of the responsibility of ensuring that all products or supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance comply with all requirements of the contract. Sampling inspection as part of manufacturing operations, is an acceptable practice to ascertain conformance to requ
29、irements, however, this does not authorize submission of known defective materials, either indicated or actual, nor does it commit the Government to accept defective material. 4.3 Classification of inspections. The following types of P inspections shall be performed on this item: a. First article in

The contractor shall submit a first article sample as designated by the Contracting Officer for evaluation in accordance with provisions of this specification. The sample shall be manufactured using the same
31、 materials, equipment, processes, and procedures as will be used in regular production. All parts and materials, including packaging shall be obtained from the same source of supply. A first article sample or portion thereof, as directed by the procuring agency, shall also be submitted whenever a ch
32、ange occurs in specification, or source of supply, such as to significantly affect product uniformity as determined by the responsible government technical agency. This section describes sampling plans, criteria for acceptance or rejection of individual samples, and criteria for acceptance or rejection of the entire lot. 4.5.6.1. Hardness. Ten sampl
43、es shall be randomly selected for testing. Failure of one hardness reading is cause.for rejection of the sample. Failure of one sample is cause for rejection of the lot. 4.5.6.2 Protective coating . 4.5.6.2.1 Coating thickness. Samples shall be selected in accordance with Table II. Failure to comply
44、 with the thickness requirement in the component drawing shall be cause for rejection of the sample. Failure of one sample shall be cause for rejection of the lot. 4.5.6.2.2 Salt spray. Five samples shall be randomly selected for testing. Samples shall be evaluated at the end of the test period in a
45、ccordance with the detail specification for the protectivg finish. The cartridge case assemblies subjected to the salt spray test shall show no more than 1/8 inch creepage, blistering, or loss of adhesion of the coating from the scribe mark. At all other points, there shall be no more than a trace o
46、f film failure (rust grade 9 ASTM D-6101, and not more than 5 scattered blisters none larger than lmm (3/64 inch) in diameter on a 48 square inch area. Rust within one thirty second (l/32) inch of all other edges shall be permitted. Failure to comply shall be cause for rejection of the sample. Rejec
47、tion of one sample shall be cause for rejection of the lot. to determine the integrity of the assembly, two samples shall be inspected during each shift or eight hour production period. One sample shall be from the middle and one from the end of the shift. If any change is made to the assembly proce
48、ss, another sample shall be inspected. Failure of any sample to comply with requirements shall be cause for rejection of all production subsequent to the last acceptable inspection. 4.5.6.4 Ballistics. Physical evidence of noncompliance with the applicable table below, with or without video indications is cause for rejection. Video detection of emissions from the breach area alone is insufficient cause for rejection. 4.5.6.3 Distance from base O.D. to edge of body plies.
