2、and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers a four-wheel, low-bed semitrailer with a maximum payload capacity of 30,000 pounds (lbs) for use as equipment transporter in the Air Defense System, Guided Missile, PATRIOT. 1.2 Classification. Semitrailer shall

The trailer shall meet a reliability requirement of 6,000 Mean Miles Between Failure (MMBF) to be demonstrated when coupled-with suitable towing vehicle in accordance

22、 with the operational profile (3.2.1.1) during test (see 4.4.2.3) (see 6.6 for definition and classification of a failure. ) . 3.2.1.1 Operational profile. Total maintenance, excluding driver and crew checks and s

24、ervices, shall not exceed 12 man-hours during the flrst 8,000 miles of specified operation. This equates to a maintenance ratio (MR) of 0.030 at 20 operational miles equivalent to one operational hour. scheduled maintenance interval shall be 8 months or 8,000 miles, whichever comes first (see 4.4.2.

Materials shall be as specified herein and in referenced specifications and drawings. might affect servic,eability and functions of the finished product (see 4.1.2 and 6.7). Ma

26、terial shall be free of all defects that 3.3.1 Qualified products. The contractor shall be responsible for using all assemblies and parts necessary in semitrailer construction that are listed as qualified products on the Qualified Products List (QPLs) and those approved for inclusion on the QPLs. As

27、semblies and parts determined as QPL items appear on the engineering parts list. inspection records shall specifically list all QPL items by part or drawing number, name of supplier, and number and date of the QPL. and parts are approved as qualified products but not yet listed on QPLs, the contract

28、or shall list the products by number and date of the approval document with the name of supplier (see 4.1.2). The contractor manufacturing When assemblies 3.3.2 Fungus resistant product. Materials required to resist fungus shall meet the requirement of MIL-STD-454, Requirement 4 (see 4.1.2). 3.3.3 F

29、lammable materials. Flammable materials shall not be used unless the materials are provided with suitable protection to prevent hazard (see 4.1.2). 3.3.4 Ozone resistance. When rubber components are required to be ozone resistant, the degree of resistance shall be as specified in applicable specific

30、ations or drawings (see 4.1.2). 3.4 Construction. Trailer components, subassemblies and assemblies shall be fabricated and assembled into a complete trailer in accordance with applicable drawings (see 2.1.2). Guided missile transporter M976 is manufactured from the M974 base trailer and from the con

31、version kit, Drawing 10252280. Large repair parts transporter M1033 is manufactured from the M974 base trailer and from the conversion kit, Drawing 11455333. as-semblies , and subassemblies requiring identification shall be identif led in accordance with MIL-STD-130. The fabrication and manufacture

32、of equipment shall be executed in a manner commensurate with the intended use of the end item and accepted Government standards and specifications delineated herein. f.- All parts, 3.4.1 Wheel bearing seals. When fording or operating in mud, sand, or snow, seals shall prevent entrance of foreign mat

33、ter into bearings. Water contamination of wheel bearing lubricant after fording operations, shall be not more than 2 percent by volume. All bearing seals shall prevent leakage of lubricants from the bearings (see 4.8.2). 3.4.2 Electrical system. The trailer shall be equipped with a 24-volt electrica

34、l lighting and signaling system in accordance with applicable drawings and provide connection to a suitable towing vehicle 24 volt system (see 4.8.3). 3.4.2.1 Electrical circuits. Electrical circuits shall maintain continuity from end to end without evidence of internal or external shorts during all

35、 trailer operating conditions (see 4.8.3). 5 Licensed by Information Handling Services3.4.2.2 Lights. Lights specified on applicable drawings shall be capable of operating throughout all trailer operating conditions (see 4.8.4). 3.4.3 Welding. Metal-arc welding of structural steels and the procedure

36、s required for documentation prior to production welding shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-1261. The contractor shall have an accepted welding procedure and accepted workmanship samples in accordance with MIL-STD-1261 for each type of weld before any production welding can be accomplished (see 4.8

37、.5). 3.4.3.1 Welder and welding operator certification. Before assigning any welder to manual welding work, the contractor shall provide the contracting officer with certification that the welder has passed qualification codes for the type of welding operations to be performed and that such qualific

38、ation is effective as defined by the particular code: a. AWS D1.1, Structural Welding Code, Section 5, qualification. b. ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section 9, Welding and Brazing Qualifications If only flat or horizontal welds are required, the contractor need not ,- qualify welders for “

39、all position welding“. Subject to approval by the Government, the contractor standard welder qualification may be substituted in lieu of the above codes provided the contractor procedure is, as a mnimum, equlvalent to the above codes. for determining that automatic welding equipment operators are ca

40、pable of producing quality welds in accordance with the contractor or manufacturer welding procedures (see 4.8.5). The contractor shall be responsible 3.4.3.2 Welding repairs and burning operations. Welding repairs and burning operations of any type or class shall be made only when and to the extent

41、 specifically authorized by the acquisitioning activity (see 4.8.5 and 6.2). 3.4.4 Lifting attachments. Trailers shall be provided with lifting attachments in accordance with applicable drawings. shall be structurally adequate to lift the trailer when loaded with maximum payload (see table III). MIL

43、e tires shall be inflated to 75 3.4.6 Landing gear. Landing legs shall support the fully loaded trailer and withstand the strains imposed when coupling and uncoupling the trailer from the towing vehicle and raising and lowering the loaded trailer. landing gear shall operate freely when trailer is lo

Trailers shall be provided with tiedown devices, in accordance with applicable drawings and of sufficient number and structural strength to be adequate

45、for transport by rail, sea, and air (see 4.8.9). 3.4.8 Air brake system. Trailer braking system includes air actuated service brakes equipped with fail safe units to provide parking and emergency braking, The air brake system shall be capable of operation throughout all ranges of trailer operating c

46、onditions. function properly and maintain adjustment within required settings during all trailer operating conditions (see 4.8.10). The brake adjustment system shall 3.4.8.1 Air lines and fittings. Air lines and fittings shall be internally clean prior to and after making connections and shall be fr

47、ee from leaks. All lines and fittings shall be secured to prevent rubbing on adjacent lines or trailer appendages. Air system leakage shall not allow a pressure drop of more than 34 pound force per square inch (psi) in a 1-hour period, with 100 + 10 psio(shopoair) initially in air supply tanks, and

48、ambient tempegatureoof 70 + 10 F; or 6 psi drop at 120 - + 10 psi for 2 minutes at 70 + 10 F (see .8.10.1). 3,4.8.2 Brake actuator seals. The brake actuator shall be completely sealed to preclude leakage of lubricants and the entrance of water, saAd, or other foreign matter into the actuator during

49、normal operation and fording as specified in 3.5.8 (see 4.8.10.2). 3.5 Performance. The trailer shall meet performance requirements of this specification when equipped as specified herein, serviced as specified in applicable lubrication drawing, loaded with M976 or M1033 payload (see 3.5.2 and 3.5.3) and coupled to the towing vehicle (see 4.8.11 through 4.8.11.6). 3.5.1 Environmental conditions. The trailer, when properly serviced and coupled to a suitable towing vehicle, shall operate and transport equipment in ambient air temperatures from minus 50 degrees fahrenhe
