This specification covers gasoline engine driven, four-wheel, two rear-wheel drive, 11,000 pounds gross vehicle weight (GVW) commercial trucks equipped with a maintenance body and a vertically tel

The gross vehicle weight (GVW) shall consist of curb weight, operator (weight computed at 175 pounds) and a payload distributed throughout the length of the vehicle body, to provide not: less than the speci
10、fied GVW. The GVW shall be not less than 11,000 pounds. 3.2.6 Weight distribution. The distribution of the GVW for the purpose of establishing suspension, axle and tire capacities shall be determined with the payload uniformly distributed over the load area. 3.2.7 Ratings. Vehicle and component rati
11、ngs shall be the manufacturers published ratings. Component and vehicular ratings shall not be raised to meet the requirements of this specification. When published ratings are not available, verification of the ratings must be submitted to the engineering office of the procuring activity. The ratin
12、gs shall be established by the manufacturer of the equipment being verified . 3.2.8 Cab-to-axle. The cab-to-axle dimension shall be not less than 60 inches. The cab-to-axle dimension shall be measured from the back of. the cab to the center of the rear axle. 3.2.9 Safety standards. The vehicle shall
13、 comply with the requirements of OSHA 1926.556, and with ANSI A92.2. The design of the vehicle and optional equipment shall perm
14、it access for routine servicing, and shall permit access for replacement and adjustment of component parts and accessories with minimal disturbance of other components and systems. 3.3 Performance. 3.3.1 Speeds and gradeability. The vehicle shall maintain a high speed of not less than 58 miles per h
15、our (mph) on smooth, approximately level, hard surfaced roads. grades of at least 20 percent in low-speed range. gradeability requirements shall be met with the vehicle loaded to specified GW?. The vehicle shall be capable of ascending Speed and 3.3.2 Service brakes. The service brakes shall control
16、 and hold the vehicle, when loaded to its specified GVW, on a 30 percent grade. The service brakes shall stop the vehicle within the stopping distance requirements of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation 393.52, under all conditions of loading, up to specified GW. 3.3.3 Parking brakes* A hand- or
17、 foot-actuated parking brake shall be furnished in addition to the service brakes. When a foot actuated parking brake is furnished, a hand lever shall be furnished to release the parking brake. of holding the vehicle loaded to specified GVW on a 30 percent slope. 18、apable 3.3*4 Upsetting stability. With one and one-half times the specified load (see 3.6.2) placed on the work platform with the vehicle otherwise unloaded, and with the two outriggers extended, the telescopid mast shall be capable of placing and holding the loaded platform in any attainable positi
19、on of the equipment without causing the vehicle to become unstable. The vehicle shall be deemed unstable with one and one-half times the specified load when any one of the vehicle wheels or outriggers lifts off of the ground. The stability test shall not cause any permanent deformation beyond the el
20、astic limit of any component of the vehicle. The vehicle shall also be deemed unstable if, with twice the specified load (see 3.6.2), the inner tire of either rear wheel lifts o?f o? the ground. 3.3.4.1 Stability on slopes. With one and one-third times the specified load (see 3.6.2) and the vehicle
21、otherwise unloaded and with the vehicle not being leveled, on a 5-degree slope, facing upward and then downward, and then at right angles to the 5-degree slope, and with the outriggers extended, the telescopic mast shall be capable of placing and holding the loaded platform in any attainable positio
22、n of the equipment without causing the vehicle to become unstable. 28、etermined in accordance with SAE 5245 or SAE 51349. The engine shall develop the specified torque and horsepower when operated on unleaded fuel with a research octane rating of 91. fuel when used in accordance with the operators manual. shall be provided. When specified (see 6.2), coolant and battery heaters shall be provided. Heaters
30、shall operate on 120 volts alternating current (ac), and shall be wired through a junction block to a single three-pronged (male), weatherproof, slave receptacle for receiving external power and for grounding the vehicle. A three-wire connecting cable, 25 feet long and of adequate line capacity to s
31、upply power for heater units simultaneously, shall be furnished. The connecting cable shall include a matching female connector at the vehicle end and a standard, three-pronged (two power plus one ground) male connector at the other end. Heaters shall be furnished as follows: Electrical (a) Coolant heater, 1500-watt minimum rating, shall be installed in the engine block or lower coolant inlet hose. thermostat with an operating range of 170F to 195F shall be installed Battery heater shall have a capacity adequate

Engine (b) 3,402 Electrical system. The electrical syste
36、m shall be in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations 393.27 through 393.31 and 393.33. 3.4.2.1 Ignition system. An ignition system of 12-volt direct current (dc) potential shall be furnished. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), an alternator of not less than 35 amperes dc rated c
37、apacity which provides not less than 7 amperes dc output at normal engine idle speed shall be furnished, 34.242 Battery. The battery shall be of 12-volt potential. The reserve capacity rating, measured in accordance with SAE J537, shall be not less than 80 minutes. The cold cranking rating at OF, me
38、asured in accordance with SAE J537, shall be not less than 350 amperes. The battery shall be of the maintenance-free type having the maintenance-free characteristics listed in W-B-131. 3.4.2.3 Lighting. All vehicle lights and reflectors shall be as specified herein and shall conform to Federal Motor
39、 Carrier Safety Regulations 393.12, 393r19, 393.20 and 393.22 through 393.26(d). 3.4.2.3.1 Turn signals. Turn signals shall be furnished. Turn signal lights may be combined with stoplights at rear and with parking lights at front. Taillights and stoplights may be incorporated into the same housing.
40、Control for turn signals shall be self-cancelling type, with visible and audible type flash indicator. The fuel system shall conform to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations 393.65 and 393.67 (except compliance with 393.67(c), subparagraphs (i), (4)(ii), (ll), 393.67(d) and 393.67(f) is not required). The capacity of the fuel tank shall be not less than 19 gallons. 3.4.3.1 Ai
43、r cleaner. An air cleaner shall be furnished. men equipped with an oil bath type air cleaner, oil capacity shall be not less than 1 pint. 3.4.4 Exhaust system. The exhaust system shall conform to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation 393.83. A spark arrester with an efficiency rating of not less t
44、han 80 percent when tested in accordance with SAE 5350 shall be furnished, except on turbocharged engines. 3.4.4.1 Exhaust system safety shield. The exhaust system or hydraulic system shall be shielded so that, in the event of a hydraulic line rupture or hydraulic fluid leak, the hydraulic fluid wil
45、l not come into contact with any part of the vehicle exhaust system. 3.4.5 Gear train. 3.4.5.1 Transmission. Unless otherwise specified (see 3.4.5.3), a manually shifted transmission shall be provided. The transmission shall have not less than four forward speeds and one reverse speed. torque capaci
46、ty of the transmission shall be at least equal to the maximum torque delivered by the engine. The transmission shall be provided with a power takeoff opening conforming to SAFI 5704. The transmission shall provide for maximum ease of shifting in all speeds. Input 3.4.5.2 Clutch. The clutch shall be
47、the largest capacity clutch offered for the vehicle and engine furnished, with clutch torque capacity exceeding maximum delivered engine torque. 3.4.5.3 Automatic or semiautomatic transmission. When specified (see 6.2), the vehicle shall be provided with an automatic or semiautomatic transmission. T
