、 3.2 Definitions The following section provides a list of general terms that occur in the EN 9300 documentation, together with a definition of those terms. These definitions are either cited from other standards, or defined as part of the EN 9300 standard, and are normative. NOTE the source for the
、definition is noted after the term. Where the sources are noted as OAIS, this is taken from CCSDS 650.0-b-1, 1.72 “Terminology“. Additional terms are also defined by OAIS, however only the most significant are reproduced here. Archival Information Package (OAIS) - An Information Package, consisting
、of the Content Information and the associated Preservation Description Information (PDI), which is preserved within an OAIS. (Note - this is the package actually retained by the archive, containing both the Content Information and all necessary PDIs.) Archival Storage (OAIS, cf also EN 9300-10 6.3 a
、nd EN 9300-13) - The process includes the setting of digital time signatures, generation of additional Descriptive Information for Archive Information Packages (meta data for the archive) and the physical storage of the data within the archive. Archive (OAIS, cf also EN 9300-10 7.1.1) - The Archive

、ironment. This includes why the Content Information was created and how it relates to other Content Information objects. Core Model (EN 9300-003, 5.3.2.1) - The essential minimum of data which are required to preserve the design intent for a given purpose. Data (ISO 10303-1) - A representation of in
、formation in a formal manner suitable for communication, interpretation, or processing by human beings or computers. Data Preparation (EN 9300-010 6.1 and EN 9300-011) - The data to be archived will be prepared by the producer. This includes data verification. Data Selection (EN 9300-014 6.3) - The
、functions to search the archive for data. Descriptive Information (OAIS) - The set of information, consisting primarily of Package Descriptions, which is provided to Data Management to support the finding, ordering, and retrieving of OAIS information holdings by Consumers. (OAIS) - The Information P

Engineering signature (EN 9300-005) - A digital signature with which the data producer asserts that the prepared data fits with the process and quality requirements from the engineering point of vie
、w. NOTE The terminology of part 5 clarifies the term “Digital (engineering) signature“ from EN 9300-003, 5.3.2.3. Fixity Information (OAIS) - The information which documents the authentication mechanisms and provides authentication keys to ensure that the Content Information object has not been alte
、red in an undocumented manner. Information (ISO 10303-1) - Facts, concepts, or instructions. Ingest (OAIS, cf also EN 9300-010 6.2 and EN 9300-012) - During the Ingest process the data producer submits the Submission Information Package from the data preparation environment into the archiving enviro
、nment. Key Characteristic - (EN 9100:2003, which in turn is based on ISO 9001:1994) - The features of a material or part whose variation has a significant influence on product fit, performance, service life or manufacturability. Long Term Archiving (EN 9300-003, 3.2.5) - Storage of a copy of data in
、 an appropriate way for record, certification and legal purposes: The data will be preserved and kept available for a use within the archive and possibly for further re-use; With certified conversion processes, the native data representation generated by the source system can be converted into a rep
、resentation which is appropriate for long term archiving. To fulfil legal and certification requirements, the stored form can be an accurate or approximate representation of the source; Integrity must be ensured by a digital signature; The data is retained over the long term; Invariance is mandatory
、; Business, legal and certification requirements are covered. prEN 9300-007:2012 (E) 11 Open Data Standard is an Open Standard (see below) defining the syntax, semantics and pragmatics of a data model. Open Standard is a standard that must fulfil the following criteria: Described precisely in a way
、that is widely and freely available and does not use proprietary methods or practices (e.g. uses object modelling methods using UML or EXPRESS) and includes defined semantics; Format and services implementing the data are explicitly described (e.g., STEP Part 21 or XML, PLM services, binary/text for
、mats, etc.) and documentation of the format and services is readily available; The updating process is described and well accepted by the applicable community and all organizations in that community are able to comment and participate in the approval process (e.g., STEP ISO ballot procedures, OMG an
、d W3C consortium procedures); Responsibility for maintaining the standard is clearly defined and held by a responsive organization; The standard and its documentation is publicly available, is not restricted by royalties, patents or other Intellectual Property restrictions, except possibly copyright
、, in which case copies must be available at reasonable cost. Packaging Information (from OAIS) - The information that is used to bind and identify the components of an Information Package. For example, it may be the ISO 9660 volume and directory information used on a CD-ROM to provide the content of
