5、not be considered a part of the standard, however, it is offered to providebackground information.ASSE standards are developed in the interest of consumer safety.The American Society of Sanitary Engineering for Plumbing and Sanitary Research isdedicated to the preservation of public health and safet

6、y through its guiding principle“Prevention Rather Than Cure”.The ASSEs Standards Program systematically evaluates new technologies through a formalrequest, and addresses the development and promulgation of performance standards de-signed to safeguard public health and safety.Standards for the perfor

7、mance of components of systems of plumbing are considered by theAmerican Society of Sanitary Engineering for Plumbing and Sanitary Research to be of greatvalue in the development of improved plumbing systems for the increased protection of publichealth and safety.To accomplish this, the ASSE, throug

8、h its Product Standards Committee, encouragesmanufacturers to develop performance standards and testing procedures for their products.These standards have the consensus of the manufacturers and others who have pertinentinterests in plumbing systems, and are acceptable to this Society.Preventing the

9、contamination of potable water in plumbing systems is a major objective of theASSEs Standards Program. The ASSE addressed the need for backflow protection at hosethreaded outlets, where attaching a common garden hose or utility hose may expose users tohighly dangerous conditions. Hose threaded prote

10、ctive devices shall only be used on systemswhere the low-head backpressure does not exceed that generated by an elevated hose equalto or less than 10 feet (3.0 m) in height. The ASSE issued Standard 1011 for Hose Bibb VacuumBreakers, which provides excellent backsiphonage protection, using devices c

11、ontaining asingle check valve and an atmospheric vent valve.This standard focuses on devices containing two check valves which are known as Dual CheckBackflow Preventer Wall Hydrants. These devices provide both backsiphonage and low-headbackpressure protection; and are suitable for high hazard appli

12、cations.It is essential that regular inspection and maintenance of backflow prevention devices beconducted in order to assure that the devices are continuously in working condition to preventbackflow.ForewordDual Check Backflow Preventer Wall Hydrants - Freeze Resistant Type iiiASSE #1053 - 2004Alth

13、ough many of the material specifications are detailed within Section IV of this Standard, itis the responsibility of the manufacturer to comply with the requirements of the Safe DrinkingWater Act, United States Public Law 93-523.The working group which developed this standard revision, was set up wi

14、thin the frameworkof the Product Standards Committee of the American Society of Sanitary Engineering.Recognition is made of the time volunteered by members of this working group and of thesupport of the manufacturers who also participated in the meetings for this standard.This standard does not impl

15、y ASSEs endorsement of a product which conforms to theserequirements.Compliance with this standard does not imply acceptance by any code body.Plumbing codes mandate how and where these devices are installed. However, this standardwas promulgated using a specific set of installation requirements and

16、conditions for thepurpose of providing reasonable performance requirements and compliance testing.It is recommended that these devices be installed consistent with local codes by qualified andtrained professionals.This standard was promulgated in accordance with procedures developed by the AmericanN

29、Check Backflow Preventer Wall Hydrants - Freeze Resistant TypeASSE #1053 - 2004Dual Check Backflow Preventer WallHydrants - Freeze Resistant TypeSection I1.0 General1.1 ApplicationThis standard establishes design and performance requirements and test procedures for DualCheck Backflow Preventer Wall

30、Hydrants - Freeze Resistant (herein referred to as the “device”).The purpose of these devices is to provide protection of the potable water supply fromcontamination due to backsiphonage or backpressure without damage to the device due tofreezing, and is field testable to verify protection under the

31、high hazard conditions present at a hosethreaded outlet. This device shall only be used on systems where the low-head backpressure doesnot exceed that generated by an elevated hose equal to or less than 10.0 feet (3.0 m) in height.These devices shall not be subjected to continuous water pressure.1.2

32、 Scope1.2.1 DescriptionThese devices shall consist of two (2) independent checks, force loaded or biased to a closedposition, with an atmospheric vent located between the two (2) check valves, which is force loadedor biased to an open position, and a means for attaching a hose. A field testability r

33、equirement shallverify the integrity of the outlet check valve and the opening of the atmospheric vent. The devicesshall be classified as follows:a) Type A devices automatically drain the water when the hydrant valve is closed and the hoseremoved to prevent damage from freezing.b) Type B devices aut

34、omatically drain the water with a hose removed or attached, end nozzleclosed and the hydrant valve closed.1.2.2 Size Range1.2.2.1 Outlet SizesSizes shall include 1/2 NPHS, 3/4 NPHS and 1 NPHS male hose threaded outlets.1.2.2.2 Inlet SizesSizes shall include but not be limited to 1/2 NPS, 3/4 NPS, or

36、0041.2.5 Temperature RangeThe devices shall be designed for flow temperatures from 33.0 F to 140.0 F (0.6 C to 60.0 C).1.2.6 RepairabilityDevices shall be designed and constructed such that, after installation, repair or replacement ofthe elastomeric parts shall be accomplished using standard tools.

37、 Construction shall permit fieldservice without damaging or marring the surface of the device.1.2.7 Atmospheric PortThe atmospheric port shall be a non-standard plumbing connection.1.3 Reference StandardsReferenced industry standards shall be the current edition of each standard.2 Dual Check Backflo

38、w Preventer Wall Hydrants - Freeze Resistant TypeASSE #1053 - 2004Section II2.0 Test Specimens2.1 Samples Submitted for TestThe manufacturer shall submit three (3) devices. Where a manufacturer has a series of devicesevaluated that are identical, except for the inlet sizes and length, the manufactur

39、er shall furnishthree (3) production quality devices of each outlet size having the smallest inlet and longest length.The test shall be run in the order described in the standard on one (1) device.2.2 Samples TestedThe testing agency shall select one (1) of each type or model, and inlet/outlet size

40、for full test.2.3 DrawingsAssembly and installation drawings, and any other data which is necessary to enable a testingagency to determine compliance with this standard, shall accompany devices when submitted forexamination and performance testing under this standard.2.4 RejectionFailure of one (1)

41、device shall be cause for rejection of that type, model and size.Dual Check Backflow Preventer Wall Hydrants - Freeze Resistant Type 3ASSE #1053 - 2004Section III3.0 Performance Requirements and Compliance Testing3.1 Hydrostatic Pressure Tests3.1.1 PurposeThe purpose of this test is to demonstrate t

42、he devices ability to withstand a hydrostatic pressure,applied at the inlet, of 250.0 psi (1723.8 kPa) or two (2) times the manufacturers maximum ratedworking pressure, whichever is greater.3.1.2 ProcedureInstall the device as shown in Figure 1. Open valves #1 and #2 to flow water through the device

43、to purge it of air. Close valve #2 and increase the supply pressure to 250.0 psi (1723.8 kPa) or two(2) times the manufacturers maximum rated working pressure, whichever is greater. Hold for aperiod of five (5) minutes.Figure 13.1.3 CriteriaAny indication of external leakage or damage shall result i

44、n a rejection of the device.3.2 Water Flow Capacity and Pressure Loss3.2.1 PurposeThe purpose of this test is to determine the maximum pressure loss at the minimum flow rate.3.2.2 ProcedureThe device shall be installed as shown in Figure 2 in a test system equipped with means foraccurately measuring

45、 the flow rate and pressure loss across the device. After purging the systemof air, close the throttling valve. The throttling valve shall be opened slowly until the 25.0 psi (172.4kPa) pressure differential is reached and maintained. Record the flow rate.Device on TestOutletInletPrimarySupplyValve

47、PurposeThe purpose of this test is to demonstrate the devices ability to function without leakage whenexposed to the maximum rated temperature and pressure.3.3.2 ProcedureInstall the device per Figure 2. Water at a temperature of 140.0 F 5.0 F (60.0 C 3.0 C) orthe manufacturers maximum rated tempera

48、ture, whichever is greater, and at a pressure of 125.0psi (861.9 kPa) or the manufacturers maximum rated pressure, whichever is greater, shall becirculated at a flow rate per Table 1 through the device for eight (8) hours per day for a total of ten(10) days.3.3.3 CriteriaAny indication of external l
