Scope*1.1 This specification covers hot-rolled, heavy-thicknesscoils beyond the size limits of Specification A 1011/A 1011M.1.2 The product is available in six designations: Commer-cial Steel, Drawing Steel, Structural Steel, High-StrengthLow-Alloy Steel, High-Strength Low-All

The purchaser is advised to discuss this change withthe supplier.1.4 Sheet and strip in coils of sizes noted in 1.3 are coveredby this specification only with the following provisions:1.4.1 The material is to be fed directly from coils into ablanking press, drawing or forming oper

7、ation, tube mill, rollingmill, or sheared or slit into blanks for subsequent drawing orforming.1.4.2 The material is not to be converted into steel plates forstructural or pressure vessel use unless tested in completeaccordance with the appropriate sections of SpecificationsA 6/A 6M (plates provided

8、 from coils) or A 20/A 20M (platesproduced from coils). Plate converted from coils is no longergoverned by this sheet steel specification and since thismaterial is now a plate, the requirements of the appropriateplate specification shall apply, except in cases where there is aconflict between the re

9、quirements of the plate specification andthis specification. In these cases, the more restrictive limits ofeither specification shall apply.1.4.3 The dimensional tolerances of Specification A 635/A 635M are applicable to material produced to this specifica-tion.1.4.4 Not all strength levels are avai

10、lable in all thicknesses.The user should consult the producer for appropriate sizelimitations.1.5 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used indep

11、endently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.2. Terminology3.1 DefinitionsFor definitions of other terms used in thisspecification refer to Terminology A 941.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to this Standard3.2.1 inclusion control, nthe process of reducing thevolume fraction of in

19、clusions or modifying the shape ofinclusions to improve formability, weldability, and machinabil-ity.3.2.1.1 DiscussionInclusions, especially those elongatedduring the rolling process, create the conditions for initiatingand/or propagating cracks when the material is stretched orbent during the manu

20、facture of a part. The adverse effects ofinclusions are minimized by reducing the content of inclusionsin the steel and/or by altering the shape of inclusions throughthe use of additions during the steelmaking process that changethe elongated shape of the inclusions to less harmful small,well disper

21、sed globular inclusions.4. General Requirements for Delivery4.1 Material furnished under this specification shall con-form to the applicable requirements of the current edition ofSpecification A 635/A 635M, unless otherwise providedherein.5. Classification5.1 Heavy thickness coils are available in t

22、he followingdesignations:5.1.1 Commercial Steel (CS Types A and B, and StandardSteel Designations)5.1.2 Drawing Steel (DS Types A and B, and Standard SteelDesignations)5.1.3 Structural Steel(SS Grades 30205, 33230,36250 Types 1 and 2, and 40275).5.1.4 High-Strength Low-Alloy Steel(HSLAS Grades45310,

23、 50340, 55380, 60410, 65450, 70480) inClasses 1 and 2.5.1.4.1 This material is intended for miscellaneous applica-tions where greater strength and savings in weight are impor-tant. The material is available in two classes. They are similarin strength level, except that Class 2 offers improved weldab

24、il-ity and more formability than Class 1. Atmospheric corrosionresistance of these steels is equivalent to plain carbon steels.With copper specified, the atmospheric corrosion is somewhatenhanced.5.1.5 High-Strength Low-Alloy Steel with ImprovedFormability(HSLAS-F Grades 50340, 60410, 70480,80550).5

25、.1.5.1 This material has improved formability when com-pared with HSLAS. The steel is killed and made to a fineferritic grain practice and includes microalloying elementssuch as columbium, titanium, vanadium, zirconium, etc. Thesteel shall be treated to achieve inclusion control. The materialis inte

26、nded for miscellaneous applications where higherstrength, savings in weight, improved formability, and weld-ability are important.Atmospheric corrosion resistance of thesesteels is equivalent to plain carbon steels. With copper speci-fied, the atmospheric corrosion resistance is somewhat en-hanced.N

27、OTE 2For methods of establishing the atmospheric corrosion resis-tance of low-alloy steels, see Guide G 101.5.1.6 Ultra-High Strength Steel(UHSS Grades 90 620and 100 690, Types 1 and 2).5.1.6.1 This material has increased strength compared withHSLAS-F. The steel is killed and made to a fine ferritic

28、 grainpractice, and includes microalloying elements such as colum-bium (niobium), titanium, vanadium, molybdenum, and soforth. The steel shall be treated to achieve inclusion control.The material is intended for miscellaneous applications wherehigher strength, savings in weight, and weldability are

29、impor-tant.Atmospheric corrosion resistance of these steels is equiva-lent to plain carbon steels. With copper specified, the atmo-spheric corrosion resistance is somewhat enhanced.5.1.7 When required for HSLAS, HSLAS-F, and UHSSsteels, limitations on the use of one or more of the microalloyelements

30、 shall be specified on the order.5.2 The limits for copper, chromium, nickel, and molybde-num are available in two levels, Limits A and Limits B (seeTable 1).6. Ordering Information6.1 Orders for material under this specification shall includethe following information, as required, to describe adequ

31、atelythe desired material.6.1.1 ASTM specification number and year of issue.6.1.2 Name of material and designation (hot-rolled steelsheet or hot-rolled strip) (include grade and, as appropriate,type and class for CS, DS, SS, HSLAS, HSLAS-F, and UHSS)(see 5.1).6.1.2.1 For CS and DS, when a type is no

32、t specified, Type Bwill be furnished.6.1.2.2 For SS Grade 36, when a type is not specified, Type1 will be furnished (see 5.1).6.1.2.3 For UHSS, when a type is not specified, Type 1 shallbe furnished.6.1.2.4 For HSLAS, when a class is not specified, Class 1will be furnished (see 5.1),6.1.3 Copper bea

33、ring, (if required),6.1.4 For SS, HSLAS, and HSLAS-F and selected CSsteels, specify the limits for chemical requirements listed inTable 1 (elements Cu, Cr, Ni, and Mo). 35、ut edge (sheet), milledge or slit edge (strip),6.1.7 Dimensions (decimal thickness and width of material),6.1.7.1 As agreed upon between the purchaser and theproducer, material ordered to this specification will be suppliedto meet the appropriate standard or restricted thickness toler-ances shown in

The pur-chaser should contact the producer regarding possible limitations prior toplacing an order.6.1.8 Coils size and weight requirements (

37、must includeinside diameter (ID), outside diameter (OD), and maximumweight,6.1.9 Quantity (weight),6.1.10 Application (part identification and description). Or-ders for conversion to plate shall include reference to theapplicable ASTM plate specification.6.1.11 Special requirements, if required, and

Chemical Composition7.1 The heat analysis of commercial steel and drawing steelshall conform to

43、the requirements of Table 2, and whereappropriate, Table 3.7.2 The heat analysis of structural steel, high-strength low-alloy steel, high-strength low-alloy steel with improved form-ability, and ultra-high strength steel shall conform to therequirements of Table 2 and Table 3.7.3 Table 1 describes t

44、he heat analysis requirements for twosets of limits (A and B) for the elements copper, chromium,nickel, and molybdenum. The required set of limits (A and B)for these elements shall be specified on the order.7.4 Chemical analysis shall be conducted in accordancewith Test Methods, Practices, and Termi

45、nology A 751.7.5 Each of the elements listed in Tables 2 and 4 shall beincluded in the report of the heat analysis. When the amount ofcopper, nickel, chromium, or molybdenum is less than 0.02 %,report the analysis as 0.02 % or the actual value. When theamount of columbium, titanium, or vanadium is l

46、ess than0.008 %, report the analysis as 0.008 % or the actual deter-mined value.
