Thesetype gaskets are inserted into and compress against the insidediameter of the sewer pipe, closet or urinal
4、 flange whileattaching to the vitreous china plumbing fixture with a flexibleadhesive. Materials and Manufacture4.1 These type gaskets are manufactured
10、principally fromvirgin injection grade plasticized PVC compounds. Recycledmaterials may be used in this product in accordance withSection 5.4.2 Adhesives used in the attachment of vitreous chinaplumbing fixture gaskets shall be compatible with the compo-nent gasket material and the sanitary drain sy
11、stem. Butylrubber-based adhesives are known to have such characteristics.5. Gasket Requirements5.1 Physical and mechanical properties of plasticized PVCgaskets for the connection of vitreous china plumbing fixturesto the sanitary drainage system shall comply with SpecificationD5926.5.2 Gaskets shall
12、 be tested in accordance with Section 9 onpipe samples complying with applicable industry standards ofmaximum and minimum dimensions. Dimensions, Mass, and Permissible Variations6.1 Gaskets shall conform to the dimensions and dimen-sional tolerances as agreed upon between the supplier andpurchaser. All dimensions shall be compatib
17、le with the dimen-sions and tolerances of the specific pipe materials and sizes andvitreous china plumbing fixture to which it is designed to join.7. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance7.1 The surface of preformed gaskets shall be smooth andfree from pitting, cracks, blisters, air marks, or any othe
18、rimperfections that may affect product performance in service7.2 Neither the flash thickness nor the flash extension shallexceed132 in. (1 mm).7.3 Mold release, oil, or grease used in the manufacturingprocess will have a detrimental effect on the ability of theadhesive to adhere to the flanged surfa
19、ce of the fixture gasket.Care should be taken not to contaminate the flanged surface ofthe gasket.8. Sampling, Tests, and Retests8.1 Test specimens representative of the gaskets to be usedshall be randomly selected from the manufactured lot fortesting. The manufactured lot shall be a minimum of eigh
20、thours old. Tests shall be performed at room temperature.8.2 Where there is a failure in the original test, the entire testshall be rerun with twice the number of samples and any failureshall be cause for rejection.9. Test Method for Assembled Gaskets9.1 Test ApparatusThe apparatus used to conduct t
21、his testshall be designed according to the applicable outlet dimensionsof the vitreous china plumbing fixture. See Fig. 1 for example.The test apparatus shall be constructed of clear acrylic witha polished finish.9.2 Significance and UseThis test method is useful indetermining the ability of the gas
22、ket assembly to provide apermanent seal against water, sewer, sewer gas and the like invitreous china plumbing fixture to sanitary drain line connec-tions.9.3 HazardsThis is a pressurized hydrostatic test andunder no circumstances shall water be substituted with air.Care should be taken in expelling
23、 all air prior to pressurizingthe test assembly. Wear eye protection during pressure tests andstrictly adhere to safety precautions at all times.9.4 ProcedureHydrostatic Joint Tightness Test: Wipe thesurface of the test apparatus with denatured alcohol. Apply thegasket assembly to the test apparatus
24、. Insert the test apparatusassembly into the test pipe providing an adequate spacebetween the test apparatus and the flange to prohibit compres-sion of the gasket between the test apparatus and flange.Securely tighten the test apparatus to the flange, fill theassembly with water expelling all air, p
25、ressurize to 4.3 psi fora period of 15 min. Any leakage shall result in failure. Refer toFig. 2.10. Certification10.1 The gasket manufacturer shall keep appropriate pro-duction and testing records showing compliance to thisspecification, including certified documentation from the PVCcompound produce
26、r showing compliance with SpecificationD5926. The manufacturer shall be required to provide saidinformation at the request of the purchaser.11. Product Marking11.1 Each gasket shall be marked with the manufacturersname or trademark, or both.11.2 The type and size of pipe for which the gasket is or t
27、hemanufacturers product identification shall be marked on orattached to each gasket.11.3 All gaskets shall be marked with the designationASTM A1045 showing compliance to this specification.12.
