3、al frame tubing for automotive racingapplications. The chemical requirements are listed in Table 1.Tubing may be used for other applications requiring similartolerances and properties. The specification includes require-ments for heat treatment and mechanical properties to meet theneeds for the appl
4、ication. The tubing is intended to be bent andjoined by welding. The welding procedure shall be suitable forthe grade, the condition of the components, and the intendedservice.1.2 The tubing outside diameter size range is from 0.625 to2.0 in. 16 to 50 mm. The wall thickness shall be specified asa mi
5、nimum wall.1.3 Optional supplementary requirements may be providedand, when one or more of these are desired, each shall be sostated in the order.1.4 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, theSI units are shown in brackets.

United States15.2 If a specific type of melting is required by the purchaser,it shall be as stated on the purchase order.5.3 The primary melting may incorporate separate degas-sing or refin
15、ing, and may be followed by secondary melting,such as electroslag or vacuum-arc remelting. If secondarymelting is employed, the heat shall be defined as all of theingots remelted from a single primary heat.5.4 Steel may be cast in ingots or may be strand cast. Whensteel of different grades is sequen
16、tially strand cast, identifica-tion of the resultant transition material is required. Theproducer shall remove the transition material by an establishedprocedure that positively separates the grades.5.5 Tubes shall be made by a seamless process and shall becold finished.5.5.1 Seamless tubing is a tu
17、bular product made without awelded seam. It is manufactured usually by hot working steeland, if necessary, by subsequently cold finishing the hot-worked tubular product to produce the desired shape,dimensions, and properties.5.6 The tubing shall be supplied in the cold finishedcondition followed by
18、a stress relief anneal (SRA).5.6.1 A light scale after the anneal is acceptable.5.6.2 For specification applications, the tubing may haveadditional outside surface grinding operations.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements as tochemical composition prescribed in Table
19、 1.7. Heat Analysis7.1 An analysis of each heat of steel shall be made by thesteel manufacturer to determine the percentages of the ele-ments specified; if secondary melting processes are used, theheat analysis shall be obtained from one remelted ingot or theproduct of one remelted ingot of each pri
20、mary melt. The heatanalysis shall conform to the requirements specified, exceptthat where the heat identity has not been maintained or wherethe analysis is not sufficiently complete to permit conformanceto be determined, the chemical composition determined from aproduct analysis made by the tubular
21、manufacturer shallconform to the requirements specified for heat analysis. Whenrequested in the order or contract, a report of such analysesshall be furnished to the purchaser.8. Product Analysis8.1 Except as required by 7.1, a product analysis by themanufacturer shall be required when specified on
22、the purchaseorder.8.1.1 One product analysis per heat on either billet or tubeis required.8.2 Samples for chemical analysis shall be taken in accor-dance with Practice A751. The composition thus determinedshall correspond to the requirements in the applicable sectionof Tables 1 and 2 of this specifi
23、cation and shall be reported tothe purchaser or the purchasers representative.8.3 If the original test for check analysis fails, retests of twoadditional billets or tubes shall be made. Both retests for theelements in question shall meet the requirements of thespecification; otherwise all remaining
24、material in the heat or lotshall be rejected or, at the option of the producer, each billet ortube may be individually tested for acceptance. Billets or tubeswhich do not meet the requirements of the specification shallbe rejected.9. Tensile Properties9.1 The materials shall meet the mechanical prop

Tension tests
29、 shall be made onspecimens from two tubes for lots of more than 50 tubes.9.3 Rockwell hardness tests shall be made on specimensfrom two tubes from each lot.9.4 For tension and hardness test requirements, the term lotapplies to all tubes prior to cutting, of the same nominaldiameter and wall thicknes
30、s which are produced from the sameheat of steel. When final heat treatment is in a batch-typefurnace, a lot shall include only those tubes of the same sizeand the same heat which are heat treated in the same furnacecharge. When the final heat treatment is in a continuousfurnace, a lot shall include
31、all tubes of the same size and heat,annealed in the same furnace at the same temperature, time atheat, and furnace speed.10. Additional Mechanical Testing10.1 Flare TestIf specified on the purchase order, each lotof tubing shall be tested with the flare test.10.2 Flatten TestIf specified on the purc
32、hase order, eachlot of tubing shall be tested with the flatten test.10.3 For the flare, flatten, and expansion test using acontinuous furnace, the lot shall be defined as all tubing of thesame heat and size going through the same furnace at the samespeed and temperature settings. If a batch furnace
33、is used, thelot shall be defined as all tubing in that same furnace charge.10.3.1 The lot shall not exceed 5000 ft 1500 m.11. Permissible Variations in Dimensions of RoundTubing11.1 Outside DiameterThe OD tolerance shall be +.005/-.000 in. +0.125/-0.000 mm.11.2 Wall ThicknessMaterial shall be suppli
34、ed to a mini-mum wall condition. The wall tolerance shall be +9 %, -0 %.11.2.1 The tubing wall thickness shall be capable of beingmeasured using ultrasonic methods.NOTE 1During use of this tubing, localized ultrasonic thicknesschecking is commonly used. Calibration is often performed using a similar
35、thickness and size section that is measured using another method such asa micrometer.11.3 LengthsMechanical tubing is commonly furnished inmill lengths, 5 ft 1.5 m and over. Definite cut lengths arefurnished when specified by the purchaser. Length tolerancesshall be +18 /-0 in. +3.2/-0 mm.11.4 Strai
36、ghtnessThe straightness tolerances for tubingshall not exceed 0.020 in. in any 3 ft 0.60 mm in any 0.9 msection.12. Nondestructive Eddy Current Test12.1 All tubing shall be tested in accordance with nonde-structive eddy current testing in accordance with SpecificationA450/A450M.13. Workmanship, Fini
37、sh, and Appearance13.1 The tubing shall be free of laps, cracks, seams, andother defects as is consistent with good commercial practice.The surface finish will be compatible with the condition towhich it is ordered.14. Coating14.1 When specified, tubing shall be coated with a film ofoil before shapi
38、ng to inhibit rust. Should the order specify thattubing be shipped without rust preventive oil, the film of oilsincidental to manufacture will remain on the surface. If theorder specifies no oil, the purchaser assumes responsibility forrust in transit.14.2 Unless otherwise specified, tubing may be c
39、oated witha rust preventive oil on the outside and inside surfaces, at theoption of the manufacturer.15. Rejection15.1 Tubes that fail to meet the requirements of thisspecification shall be set aside and the manufacturer shall benotified.16. Product and Package Marking16.1 Each box, bundle of lift,
40、and, when individual piecesare shipped, each piece shall be identified by a tag or stencilwith the manufacturers name or brand, or both, this specifi-cation number (Specification A1103/A1103M), specified size,grade, and heat number.16.2 In addition to the requirements in 16.1, bar coding isacceptabl
41、e as a supplemental identification method for thebundle.17. Packaging17.1 Tubing will normally be shipped bundled with steelbanding.
