1、Designation: A 228/A 228M 02Standard Specification forSteel Wire, Music Spring Quality1This standard is issued under the fixed designation A 228/A 228M; the number immediately following the designation indicates the yearof original adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A n

2、umber in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.A superscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers a high quality, round, cold-

3、drawn steel music spring quality wire, uniform in mechanicalproperties, intended especially for the manufacture of springssubject to high stresses or requiring good fatigue properties.1.2 The values stated in either SI (metric) units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The

The maximum average partial decarburiza-tion depth shall not exceed 1.5% of the wire diameter whenmeasured using the test method described in 8.2.3.8.2.2 Test MethodDecarburization shall be determined byetching a suitably polished

(See Test Method E 1077.)8.2.3 The entire periphery shall be examined at a magnifi-cation of no less than 1003 for depth of free ferrite andmaximum affected depth. Smaller wir

37、e sizes may requirehigher magnification. Complete decarburization exists whenonly free ferrite is present. The worst case location shall beused to position perpendicular bisectors as shown in Fig. 1. Thedepth of decarburization (D) shall be measured at each of thefour points where the perpendicular

38、bisectors cross the circum-ference of the wire. The four readings so obtained shall beaveraged, and the average shall not exceed 1.5% of the wirediameter.8.2.4 The purchaser may specify more restrictive decarbur-ization requirements where necessary for special applications. These requirements shall b
