、Designation: A 302/A 302M 03Standard Specification forPressure Vessel Plates, Alloy Steel, Manganese-Molybdenum and Manganese-Molybdenum-Nickel1This standard is issued under the fixed designation A 302/A 302M; the number immediately following the designation indicates the yearof original adoption or
、, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.A superscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1. Scope*
、1.1 This specification2covers manganese-molybdenum andmanganese-molybdenum-nickel alloy steel plates intended par-ticularly for welded boilers and other pressure vessels.1.2 Plates under this specification are available in fourgrades having different strength levels as follows:Grade Tensile Strength
、, ksi MPa TypeA 7595 515655 Mn-MoB 80100 550690 Mn-MoC 80100 550690 Mn-Mo-NiD 80100 550690 Mn-Mo-Ni1.3 The maximum thickness of plates is limited only by thecapacity of the chemical composition to meet the specifiedmechanical property requirements. The minimum thickness islimited to 0.25 in. 6.5 mm.
、1.4 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, theSI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in eachsystem are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system mustbe used independently of the other. Combining values from t

General Requirements and Ordering Information3.1 Plates supplied to this product specification shall c
、on-form to Specification A 20/A 20M, which outlines the testingand retesting methods and procedures, permissible variationsin dimensions and mass, quality and repair of defects, marking, loading, and so forth.3.2 Specification A 20/A 20M also establishes the rules forordering information that should
、be complied with whenpurchasing plates to this specification.3.3 In addition to the basic requirements of this specifica-tion, certain supplementary requirements are available whereadditional control, testing, or examination is required to meetend use requirements.3.4 The purchaser is referred to th
、e listed supplementaryrequirements in this specification and to the detailed require-ments in Specification A 20/A 20M.3.5 Coils are excluded from qualification to this specifica-tion until they are processed into finished plates. Platesproduced from coil means plates that have been cut toindividual
、 lengths from coil. The processor directly controls, oris responsible for, the operations involved in the processing ofcoils into finished plates. Such operations include decoiling, leveling, cutting to length, testing, inspection, conditioning, heat treatment (if applicable), packaging, marking, load
、ing forshipment, and certification.NOTE 1For plates produced from coil and furnished without heattreatment or with stress relieving only, three test results are reported foreach qualifying coil. Additional requirements regarding plates from coilare described in Specification A 20/A 20M.3.6 If the re
、quirements of this specification are in conflictwith the requirements of Specification A 20/A 20M, the re-quirements of this specification shall prevail.4. Materials and Manufacture4.1 Steelmaking PracticeThe steel shall be killed andshall conform to the fine grain size requirement of Specifica-tion
、 A 20/A 20M.5. Heat Treatment5.1 Plates 2 in. 50 mm and under in thickness are normallysupplied in the as-rolled condition. Plates may be orderednormalized or stress relieved, or both.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee A01 on Steel,Stainless Steel, and Related Alloys and
