、Designation: A 487/A 487M 93 (Reapproved 2003)Standard Specification forSteel Castings Suitable for Pressure Service1This standard is issued under the fixed designationA487/A487M; the number immediately following the designation indicates the yearof original adoption or, in the case of revision, the

、 year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.A superscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1 This specification2covers l

、ow-alloy steels and marten-sitic stainless steels in the normalized and tempered, orquenched and tempered, condition suitable for pressure-containing parts. The weldability of the classes in this speci-fication varies from readily weldable to weldable only withadequate precautions, and the weldabili

、ty of each class shouldbe considered prior to assembly by fusion welding.1.2 Selection will depend on design, mechanical, and ser-vice conditions. Users should note that hardenability of someof the grades mentioned may restrict the maximum size atwhich the required mechanical properties are obtained

、.1.3 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, theSI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in eachsystem are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system mustbe used independently of the other. Combining values from

、thetwo systems may result in nonconformance with the specifi-cation. Inch-pound units are applicable for material ordered toSpecification A 487 and SI units for material ordered toSpecification A 487M.2.
