15、.4. Manufacture4.1 Steelmaking PracticeThe steel shall be killed andconform to the fine austenitic grain size requirement ofSpecification A 20/A 20M.5. Heat Treatment5.1 All plates shall be thermally treated as follows:5.1.1 Class 1 plates shall be normalized.5.1.2 Class 2 and Class 3 plates shall b
16、e quenched andtempered. The tempering temperature for Class 2 plates shallnot be less than 1100F 595C for not less than12 h and1150F 620C for Class 3 plates for not less than12 h.6. Mechanical Requirements7.1 Tension Tests:7.1.1 RequirementsThe material as represented by thetension-test specimens shall conform to the requirementsshown in Table 2
18、.7.1.2 For Class 2 and Class 3 plates with a nominalthickness of34 in. 20 mm and under, the 112-in. 40-mmwide rectangular specimen may be used for the tension test,and the elongation may be determined in a 2-in. 50-mm gagelength that includes the fracture and that shows the greatestelongation.8.
