3、ment of Defense.1. Scope*1.1 This specification covers the general requirements forsteel sheet in coils and cut lengths. It applies to the followingspecifications that describe carbon steel, structural steel, andhigh-strength, low-alloy steel (HSLA) furnished as hot-rolledsheet and cold-rolled sheet

4、: Specifications A 414/A 414M,A 424, A 606, A 659/A 659M, A 794, A 1008/A 1008M,A 1011/A 1011M, and A 1039/A 1039M.1.2 This specification is not applicable to hot-rolled heavy-thickness carbon sheet coils (Specification A 635/A 635M).1.3 In case of any conflict in requirements, the requirementsof th

5、e individual material specification shall prevail over thoseof this general specification.1.4 For the purposes of determining conformance with thisand the appropriate product specification referenced in 1.1,values shall be rounded to the nearest unit in the right handplace of figures used in express

6、ing the limiting values inaccordance with the rounding method of Practice E29.1.5 AnnexA1 lists permissible variations in dimensions andmass (see Note 1) in SI metric units. The values listed are notexact conversions of the values listed in the inch-pound tables,but instead are rounded or rationaliz

7、ed values. Conformance toAnnex A1 is mandatory when the “M” specification is used.NOTE 1The term weight is used when inch-pound units are thestandard. However, under SI the preferred term is mass.1.6 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded as standard. Within the t

22、ound which are not specified or required,such as copper, nickel, molybdenum, chromium, etc. Theseelements are considered as incidental and are not normallydetermined or reported.3.1.3 high-strength, low-alloy steelspecific group of steelsin which higher strength, and in some cases additional resis-t

The purchaser is advised to discussthis change with the supplier.3.1.6 cold-rolled sheetmanufactured from hot-rolled des-caled coils by cold reducing to the desired thickness, generallyfollowed by annealing to recrystallize the grain structure. If thesheet is not

32、essing capabilities of various manufactur-ers and processors. Historic limitations of a product based upondimensions (thickness, width, and length) do not take intoaccount current production and processing capabilities. Toqualify any product for a particular product specificationrequires all appropr

33、iate and necessary tests be performed andthat the results meet the limits prescribed in that productspecification. This general requirements speci-fication contains permitted variations for the commonly avail-able sizes. Permitted variations for other sizes are subject toagreement between the customer and th

35、e manufacturer orprocessor, whichever is applicable.3.1.7 retests, nadditional test, or tests, made from theoriginal material when the original test did not meet theappropriate acceptance criteria required by a product specifi-cation and the failure was mechanical in natures as described inSection 1

39、length, testing, inspection,blanking, slitting, pickling, cold rolling (cold reduction), heattreating, temper rolling, coating, packaging, marking, loadingfor shipment, and certification.3.1.10.1 DiscussionThe processing operations need notbe controlled by the organization that hot rolls the slab in

40、to acoil. If only one organization controls or is responsible for (orboth) the hot rolling and processing operations, that organiza-tion is termed the manufacturer. If more than one organizationcontrols or is responsible for (or both) hot rolling and process-ing operations, the organization that con

41、trols and is responsiblefor the hot rolling is termed the hot roll manufacturer and theorganization or organizations controlling and responsible forthe processing operations is/are termed the processor or pro-cessors. Likewise, one organization may be the manufacturerof the hot roll coil and another

42、 the manufacturer of the cold rollcoil. In such case, the organization responsible for the conver-sion of the hot roll coil to a cold roll coil and other processingoperations will also be termed the cold roll manufacturer andorganizations performing additional processing operations tothe cold roll c

43、oil will be termed the coil processor or coilprocessors.3.1.11 hot roll manufacturer, nthe organization that di-rectly controls or is responsible for the conversion of steelslabs, by hot rolling into coils, and for one or more additionaloperations such as leveling, cutting to length, testing, inspec

44、-tion, blanking, slitting, pickling, cold rolling, heat treating,coating, packaging, marking, loading for shipment, and certi-fication.3.1.12 cold roll manufacturer, nthe organization thatdirectly controls or is responsible for the conversion of hot rollcoils into cold roll coils, and for one or mor

45、e additionaloperations such as pickling, annealing, temper rolling, slitting,cutting to length, testing, inspection, blanking, coating, pack-aging, marking, loading for shipment, and certification.3.2 Refer to TerminologyA 941 for additional definitions ofterms used in this standard.4. Materials and

46、 Manufacture4.1 Unless otherwise specified, hot-rolled material shall befurnished hot-rolled, not annealed, not pickled.4.2 Coil breaks, stretcher strains, and fluting can occurduring the users processing of hot-rolled or hot-rolled pickledsheet. When any of these features are detrimental to theappl

47、ication, the manufacturer shall be notified at time ofordering in order to properly process the sheet.4.3 Cold-rolled carbon steel sheet is available as discussedin 10.2, 10.3, and in Table 1.4.4 Unless specified as a full-hard product, cold-rolled sheetis annealed after being cold reduced to thickn

48、ess. The an-nealed, cold-rolled sheet can be used as annealed last (deadsoft) for unexposed end-use applications. When cold-rolledsheet is used for unexposed applications and coil breaks are ahazard in uncoiling, it may be necessary to further process thematerial. In this case the manufacturer shoul

49、d be consulted.After annealing, cold-rolled sheet is generally given a lightskin pass to impart shape or may be given a heavier skin passor temper pass to prevent the phenomenon known as stretcherstraining or fluting, when formed. Temper passing also pro-vides a required surface texture.4.5 Temper Rolling:4.5.1 Unless otherwise specified, cold-rolled sheet for ex-posed applications shall be temper rolled and is usuallyspecified and furnished in the strain free condition as shipped.SeeAppendix X1, Effect ofAging of Cold-Rolled Carbon SteelSheet on D
