Scope*1.1 This specification2covers three grades of carbon-manganese-silicon steel p

3、lates intended primarily for service inwelded pressure vessels where improved low temperaturenotch toughness is important.1.2 The maximum thickness of plates is limited only by thecapacity of the composition to meet the specified mechanicalproperty requirements.1.3 For plates produced from coil and

4、furnished withoutheat treatment or with stress relieving only, the additionalrequirements, including additional testing requirements and thereporting of additional test results, of Specification A20/A20Mapply.1.4 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded separately a

5、s standard. Within the text, theSI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in eachsystem are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system mustbe used independently of the other. Combining values from thetwo systems may result in nonconformance with the specifi-cation.1.5 This international s

General Requirements and Ordering Information3.1 Material supplied to this material specification shallconform to Specification A20/A20M. These requirements out-line the testing and retesting methods

9、 and procedures, permit-ted variations in dimensions, and mass, quality and repair ofdefects, marking, loading, and ordering information.3.2 In addition to the basic requirements of thisspecification, certain supplementary requirements are availablewhen additional control, testing, or examination is

10、 required tomeet end use requirements. The purchaser is referred to thelisted supplementary requirements in this specification and tothe detailed requirements in Specification A20/A20M.3.3 Coils are excluded from qualification to this specifica-tion until they are processed into finished plates. Pla

11、tesproduced from coil means plates that have been cut toindividual lengths from coil. The processor directly controls, oris responsible for, the operations involved in the processing ofcoils into finished plates. Such operations include decoiling,leveling, cutting to length, testing, inspection, con

12、ditioning,heat treatment (if applicable), packaging, marking, loading forshipment, and certification.NOTE 1For plates produced from coil and furnished without heattreatment or with stress relieving only, three test results are reported foreach qualifying coil. Additional requirements regarding plate

13、s from coilare described in Specification A20/A20M.3.4 If the requirements of this specification are in conflictwith the requirements of Specification A20/A20M, the require-ments of this specification shall prevail.4. Manufacture4.1 Steelmaking PracticeThe steel shall be killed andshall conform to t

Heat Treatment5.1 All plates of Grade A and plates of Grades B and C over112 in. 40 mm in thickness shall be normalized.5.2 Plates of Grades B and C, 112 in. 40 mm and under inthickn

19、ess, are normally supplied in the as-rolled condition. Theplates may be ordered normalized or stress relieved, or both.6. Chemical Requirements6.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements as tochemical composition given in Table 1 unless otherwisemodified in accordance with Supplementary Requirem

20、ent S17,Vacuum Carbon-Deoxidized Steel, in Specification A20/A20M.7. Mechanical Requirements7.1 Tension Test RequirementsThe plates, as representedby the tension test specimens, shall conform to the require-ments given in Table 2.8.
