Scope*1.1 This specification covers round, uncoated, high tensilestrength, cold-drawn steel spring wire, having proper

Terminology3.1 DefinitionsFor definitions of terms used in this speci-fication, refer to Terminology A941.4. Ordering Information4.1 It shall be the responsibility of the purchaser to spe

8、cifyall requirements that are necessary for material under thisspecification. Such requirements may include, but are notlimited to, the following:4.1.1 Quantity (mass),4.1.2 Name of material (steel wire, high tensile strength,hard drawn),4.1.3 Dimensions (Table 1 and Section 9),4.1.4 Packaging (Sect

9、ion 15),4.1.5 Heat analysis report, if requested (6.2),4.1.6 Certification or test report, or both, if specified (Sec-tion 14), and4.1.7 ASTM designation and year of issue.NOTE 1A typical ordering description is as follows: 20 Mg hightensile strength, hard-drawn steel mechanical spring wire, 5.00-mm

10、diameter, 500-kg coils to ASTM A679/A679M dated _ , or forinch-pound units, 40 000-lb high tensile strength, hard-drawn steel me-chanical spring wire, 0.192-in. diameter, in 1000-lb coils to ASTMA679/A679M dated _ .5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 The steel may be made by any commercially acceptedste

11、el making process. The steel may be either ingot cast orcontinuous strand cast. The rod to be used in the manufactureof wire furnished to this specification shall be in accordancewith Specifications A510 or A510M.5.2 The finished wire shall be free from detrimental pipeand undue segregation.5.3 The

12、wire shall be cold drawn to produce the desiredmechanical properties.5.4 The wire finish shall be suitable for forming or coiling.It is not intended that this material be furnished with a metalliccoating.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee A01 on Steel,Stainless Steel and

Chemical Composition6.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements for chemicalcomposition prescribed in Table 2.6.2 Heat AnalysisEach heat of steel shall be analyze

17、d bythe manufacturer to determine the percentage of elementsprescribed in Table 2. This analysis shall be made from a testspecimen preferably taken during the pouring of the heat.When requested, in the purchase order, the heat analysis shallbe reported to the purchaser.6.3 Product AnalysisAn analysi

18、s may be made by thepurchaser from finished wire representing each heat of steel.The chemical composition thus determined, as to elementsrequired or restricted, shall conform to the product analysisrequirements specified in Table 7 of Specifications A510 orA510M.6.4 For referee purposes, Test Method

19、s, Practices, andTerminology A751 shall be used.7. Mechanical Properties7.1 Tension Test:7.1.1 RequirementsThe material as represented by tensiontest specimens shall conform to the requirements prescribed inTable 1.7.1.2 Number of TestsOne test specimen shall be taken foreach 10 coils or fraction th

20、ereof, in a lot. Each heat in a givenlot shall be tested.7.1.3 Test MethodThe tension test shall be made inaccordance with Test Methods and Definitions A370.7.2 Wrap Test:7.2.1 RequirementsThe material as represented by thewrap test specimens shall conform to the requirements speci-fied in Table 3.7

21、.2.2 Number of TestsOne test specimen shall be taken foreach 10 coils, or fraction thereof, in a lot. Each heat in a givenlot shall be tested.7.2.3 Location of TestTest specimens shall be taken fromeither end of the coil.7.2.4 Test MethodThe wrap test shall be made in accor-dance with Test Methods a

22、nd Definitions A370.8. Metallurgical Requirements8.1 MicrostructureThe wire shall be cold drawn with afine pearlite structure.8.2 Surface ConditionsThe wire surface shall not exhibitimperfections that exceed 3.5 % of the wire diameter or 0.25mm (0.010 in.) in depth, whichever is smaller.9. Dimension

23、s and Permissible Variations9.1 The permissible variations in the diameter of the wireshall be as specified in Table 4.10. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance10.1 WorkmanshipThe wire shall not be kinked or im-properly cast. To test for cast, one convolution of wire shall becut from the coil and plac

24、ed on a flat surface. The wire shall notspring up excessively nor show a wavy condition.10.1.1 Each coil shall be one continuous length of wire,properly coiled and firmly tied. Welds made prior to colddrawing are permitted.10.2 AppearanceThe surface shall be smooth and free ofrust with no imperfecti

25、ons such as pits or die marks that tendto impair the use of the wire for springs. Any other surfacerequirements shall be negotiated at the time of entry of theorder.11. Retests11.1 If any test specimen exhibits obvious imperfections orshows the presence of a weld, it may be discarded and anotherspec

26、imen substituted.12. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchaseorder, the manufacturer may use his own or any other suitablefacilities for the performance of the inspection a

32、nd testrequirements unless disapproved by the purchaser at the timethe order is placed. The purchaser shall have the right toperform any of the inspections and tests set forth in thisspecification when such inspections and tests are deemednecessary to assure that the material conforms to prescribedr

33、equirements.13. Rejection and Rehearing13.1 Unless otherwise specified, any rejection based on testsmade in accordance with these specifications shall be reportedto the manufacturer as soon as possible so that an investigationmay be initiated.13.2 The material shall be adequately protected and cor-r

34、ectly identified in order that the manufacturer is able to makea proper investigation.14. Certification14.1 When specified in the purchase order or contract, aproducers or suppliers certification shall be furnished to thepurchaser that the material was manufactured, sampled, tested,and inspected in

35、accordance with this specification and hasbeen found to meet the requirements. When specified in thepurchase order or contract, a report of the test results shall befurnished.14.2 The certification shall include the specification num-ber, year of issue, and revision letter, if any.15. Marking for Sh

36、ipment15.1 The coil mass, dimensions, and the method of packag-ing shall be agreed upon between the manufacturer andpurchaser.15.2 A tag shall be securely attached to each coil of wirewith identifying information as agreed upon by the purchaserand manufacturer.15.3 Unless otherwise specified in the

37、purchasers order,packaging, marking, and loading for shipments shall be inaccordance with those procedures recommended by PracticesA700.15.4 Marking for shipment of material for civil agenciesshall be in accordance with Fed. Std. No. 123.15.5 Bar CodingIn addition to the previously-stated iden-tific

38、ation requirements, bar coding is acceptable as a supple-mentary identification method. Bar coding should be consistentwith AIAG Standard 02.00.
