Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 The definitions in Test Methods and Definitions A370,Terminolo

27、gy A941, and Test Methods A1058 are applicable tothis specification and to those listed in 1.1.3.1.2 chaplet, na chaplet is a metallic support placed in amold cavity to maintain the spacing between a core and themold.3.1.3 electronic data interchange (EDI), nthe computer-to-computer exchange of busi

29、llic deviceplaced in a mold cavity to increase the rate of heat removal atthat location.3.1.6 test coupon, nthe part from which the test specimenwill be extracted.3.1.7 test specimen, nthe part that will be acted upon in amechanical test.4. Materials and Manufacture4.1 Melting ProcessThe steel shall

30、 be made by open-hearth or electric-furnace process, with or without separaterefining such as argon-oxygen-decarburization (AOD), unlessotherwise designated by the individual specification.4.2 Heat Treatment:4.2.1 Ferritic and martensitic steel shall be cooled afterpouring to provide substantially c

31、omplete transformation ofaustenite prior to heat treatment to enhance mechanical prop-erties.4.2.2 Castings shall be heat treated in the working zone of afurnace that has been surveyed in accordance with Test MethodA991/A991M.4.2.2.1 When castings are heat treated at temperaturesabove 2000 F 1100 C,

32、 then the working zone shall havebeen established by a survey performed at not more than 25 F15 C below nor more than 200 F 110 C above theminimum heat treatment temperature specified for the grade. Ifa minimum heat treatment temperature is not specified for thegrade, then the survey temperature sha

35、 during production heattreatment no portion of the furnace shall be below theminimum specified temperature nor above the maximumspecified temperature for the grade being processed.5. Chemical Composition5.1 Chemical AnalysisChemical analysis of materialscovered by this specification shall be in acco

36、rdance with TestMethods A751.5.2 Heat AnalysisAn analysis of each heat shall be madeby the manufacturer to determine the percentages of theelements specified. The analysis shall be made from a testsample preferably taken during the pouring of the heat. Whendrillings are used, they shall be taken not

37、 less than14 in.6.4 mm beneath the surface. The chemical composition thusdetermined shall be reported to the purchaser, or theirrepresentative, and shall conform to the requirements in theindividual specification for the grade being poured.5.3 Product AnalysisA product analysis may be made bythe pur

38、chaser from material representing each heat, lot, orcasting. The analysis shall be made on representative material.Due to the possibility of decarburization, samples for carbonanalysis shall be taken no closer than14 in. 6.4 mm to a castsurface, except that castings too thin for this shall be analyz

39、edon representative material. The chemical composition thusdetermined shall meet the requirements specified in the appli-cable specification for the grade involved, or shall be subject torejection by the purchaser, except that the chemical composi-tion determined for carbon and low-alloy steel and s

40、tainlesssteel castings may vary from the specified limits by theamounts shown in Table 1 and Table 2, respectively. Theproduct analysis tolerances of Tables 1 and 2 are not applicableas acceptance criteria for heat analysis by the casting manu-facturer. When comparing product and heat analysis for o

41、therthan carbon and low-alloy steels and stainless steels, thereproducibility data R2, in Test Methods E353 or E354,asapplicable, shall be taken into consideration.5.4 Unspecified ElementsWhen chemical analysis for el-ements not specified for the grade ordered is desired, Supple-mentary Requirement

42、S1 may be specified.5.5 Grade SubstitutionGrade substitution is not permitted.Grade substitution occurs when the material being suppliedcontains one or more elements that are not specified for thesupplied material such that the material conforms to therequirements of a different grade.5.6 Where more

43、 than one ladle is poured into a singlecasting, the molten metal in each ladle must conform to thespecified chemical requirements.6. Mechanical Test Methods6.1 All mechanical tests shall be conducted in accordancewith Test Methods and Definitions A370. When material isordered to an M-suffix (SI unit

44、s) standard, then in accordancewith Test Methods A1058.6.2 Choice of testing track from the options listed in TestMethods A1058 when material is ordered to an M-suffix (SIunits) product standard, should be identified by the purchaserin the ordering information. If the choice of test track is notspec

45、ified in the order, then the default ASTM track shall beused as noted in Test Methods A1058.7. Tensile Requirements7.1 One tension test shall be made from each heat, and shallconform to the tensile requirements specified. Test couponsshall be cast from the same heat as the castings represented,excep

46、t that for investment castings, the test coupons shall becast in the same type of mold as the castings.66Information on the relationship of mechanical properties determined on testcoupons obtained as specified in 7.1 and 7.4 with those obtained from the castingmay be found in The Steel Castings Hand
