Ordering Information4.1 Orders for wire rope guardrail material purchased to thisspecification shall include the following:4.1.1 Diameter of wire rope,4.1.2 Type of wire rope construction,4.1.3 Class of zinc coating required (Table 1),4.1.4 Quantity of wire rope and length per reel, and4.1.5 ASTM
7、 designation and year of issue.NOTE 1A typical ordering description is as follows:34-in. 9、quirements Mechanical Requirements6.1 Breaking StrengthThe zinc-coated steel wire ropeshall conform to the mechanical properties in Table 2 whentested in accordance with Test Methods and Definitions A 370and employing a suitable gripping device as covered inSupplement VII of Test Methods and Definit
10、ions A 370.6.2 ConstructionThe zinc-coated wire rope and indi-vidual wires shall conform to the dimension and constructionrequirements of Table 2.6.3 Ductility of SteelThe individual zinc-coated wiresshall be capable of being wrapped two turns in a close helix ata rate not exceeding 15 turns per min
11、ute around a cylindricalsteel mandrel equal to three times the nominal diameter of thewire under test without cracking or breaking of the wire.6.4 Weight of Zinc CoatingThe class of zinc coating shallbe specified by the purchaser. The weight of the zinc coating onthe individual wires for the specifi
12、ed class and appropriate wiresize shall not be less than that specified in Table 1 when testedin accordance with the stripping test of Test Method A 90 /A90M.6.5 Adherence of CoatingThe individual zinc-coatedwires shall be capable of being wrapped two turns in a closehelix at a rate not exceeding 15

Loosening or detachment during theadherence test of superficial small particles of zinc formed bymechanical polishing of the surface of zinc-coated wire shallnot be considered cause for rejection.6.6 AppearanceThe individual wires shall be cylindricalin form, of uniform quality, a
17、nd free of imperfections notconsistent with good commercial practice. The coating shall becontinuous and reasonably uniform.7. Wire Rope7.1 The wire rope shall be right regular lay, preformed, andof the type of construction shown in Table 2. A right lay isdefined as a clockwise twist away from the o
18、bserver. The typeof construction shall be specified by the purchaser.8. Joints and Splices8.1 Individual WiresThe distance between joints in anytwo individual wires in a strand shall be not less than 18 in.(460 mm). Joints in individual wires shall be either butt-weldedor brazed-lap type. Joints mad
19、e by butt welding shall have allflash removed. When the brazed-lap type of joint is used, thelength of the lap shall be not less than three times the diameterof the wire and the overlapping faces shall be smooth, clean,properly fluxed, and completely covered by the brazing metal.All joints shall be
20、recoated after welding so that the joints shallhave protection from corrosion equivalent to the zinc-coatedwire itself.8.2 Strand or RopeStrand or rope splices may only bemade when authorized in writing by the purchaser.9. Sampling and Testing9.1 One wire rope test specimen shall be taken from eachl
21、ot.Alot shall consist of not more than 20 tons (18 metric tons)of wire rope of one size and type delivered at one time.9.2 The test specimen shall be of a length to performconveniently all tests prescribed in this specification.9.3 A minimum of four wire test specimens shall be cutfrom each size of
22、main wires in the rope, selected at random fortesting for compliance with 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, and 6.5.9.4 If an individual wire or the rope fails to meet anyrequirements of this specification, that reel shall be rejectedand two additional tests shall be made on samples of wire ropefrom two different reel
23、s in the lot. If failure occurs in either ofthese tests, the lot of wire rope shall be rejected. The lot maybe resubmitted for inspection after testing every reel for thecharacteristic in which the specimen failed and sorting out thedefective reels.10. Inspection10.1 All tests and inspection shall b
24、e made at the place ofmanufacture unless otherwise specified and shall be so con-ducted as not to interfere unnecessarily with the operation ofthe works. The manufacturer shall afford the inspector repre-senting the purchaser all reasonable facilities to satisfy him thatthe material being furnished
25、is in accordance with this speci-fication. When specified, inspection may be waived and certi-fied copies of test reports furnished. The purchaser reserves theright to test individual wires for compliance to 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, and6.5 and the zinc-coated wire rope after fabrication.11. Packaging11.1 Curr
26、ent standard practice is to ship the wire rope onwooden reels. Each reel shall have the length, nominal diam-eter, type of strand construction, weight of rope, and name ortrademark of the manufacturer plainly and indelibly marked ona strong tag, firmly attached, or this information shall bepainted o
27、n the reel.
