Hea
10、t Treatment5.1 All castings shall receive a heat treatment indicated inTable 4. Preliminary heat treatment prior to final heat treatmentas well as multiple tempering is permitted.5.2 Heat treatment shall be performed after the castingshave been allowed to cool below the transformation range.5.3 The
11、furnace temperature for heat treating shall beeffectively controlled by the use of recording-type pyrometers.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements of chemicalcomposition as prescribed in Table 1.6.2 The product analysis tolerances given in SpecificationA 781/A 781M s

Tensile Requirements7.1 One tension test shall be made from each heat and shallconform to the tensile requirements specified for the gra
15、deselected in Tables 2 and 3.7.2 Tension test coupons shall be machined in accordancewith Paragraph 9 of Test Methods and Definitions A 370 andtested in accordance with those methods.7.3 To determine conformance with the tension test require-ments, an observed value or calculated value shall be roun
16、dedin accordance with Practice E29to the nearest 500 psi 5 MPafor yield point and tensile strength and to the nearest 1 % forelongation and reduction of area.8. Repair by Welding8.1 Repairs shall be made using procedures and weldersqualified in accordance with Practice A 488/A 488M.8.2 Repair welds
17、shall be inspected to the same qualitystandards that are used to inspect the castings. When castingsare produced with Supplementary Requirement S1 specified,weld repairs shall be inspected by magnetic particle examina-tion to the same standards that are used to inspect the castings.When castings are
18、 produced with Supplementary S2 or S4, orboth, as specified, weld repairs in which the depth of the cavityprepared for weld repair exceeds 20 % of the wall thickness or1 in. (25 mm), whichever is smaller, or in which the cavityprepared for welding is greater than approximately 10 in.2(65cm2, shall b

Test Coupons and Specimens9.1 Test bars shall be poured from the same heat as thecastings represented. Test coupons may be cast
36、 integrally withthe castings or as separate blocks similar to those shown in Fig.1 of Specification A 781/A 781M.9.2 The bar from which the test piece is taken shall beheat-treated in production furnaces to the same procedure asthe castings it represents.When the bar from which the test piece is tak
37、en is notheat-treated as part of the same heat-treatment load as thecasting(s) it qualifies, the austenitizing temperatures for the barshall be within 25F of those for the casting(s). The temperingtemperature for the bar shall be no higher than 25F above thatof the casting(s) and no higher than that
38、 permitted by theheat-treatment procedure for the material. The cycle time ateach temperature shall not exceed that for the casting(s).9.3 Test specimens may be cut from heat-treated castings atthe producers option, instead of from test bars.9.4 If any specimen shows defective machining or exhibitsf
39、laws, it may be discarded and another substituted from thesame heat.9.5 If the results of the mechanical tests for any heat or lotor casting do not conform to the requirements agreed upon,retests are permitted in accordance with Test Methods andDefinitions A 370. At the manufacturers option, casting
40、s maybe reheat-treated and retested.
