Scope1.1 This specification covers drawn and annealed or soft round bare copper wire fo

3、r electrical purposes (see Explanatory Note1).1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. Ordering Information3.1 Orders for material under this specification shall include the following information:3.1.1 Quantity of each size,3.1.2 Wire size: diameter in inches (see 5.45.3 and Table 1),3.1.3 Type of copper, if special (Section 4),3.1.4 Package size (see 10.1),3.1.5

Materials and Manufacture4.1 The material shall be copper of such quality and purity that the finished product shall have the properties and characteristicsprescribed in this specification.NOTE 1The followingSpecific

General Requirements (see Section 78)

15、5.1 Tensile Strength and ElongationThe wire shall conform to the requirements for elongation prescribed in Table 1 (seeExplanatory Note 2). No requirements for tensile strength are specified. For wire whose nominal diameter is more than 0.001 in.(0.025 mm) greater than a size listed in Table 1, but

16、less than that of the next larger size, the requirements of the next larger sizeshall apply.5.2 JointsNecessary joints in the completed wire and in the wire and rods prior to final drawing shall be made in accordancewith the best commercial practice.5.2 ResistivityThe electrical resistivity at 20C s

17、hall not exceed 875.20 lb/mile2 (0.15328 g/m2) (see Explanatory Note5).5.3 Dimensions and Permissible VariationsThe wire sizes shall be expressed as the diameter of the wire in decimal fractionsof an inch to the nearest 0.0001 in. (or 0.001 mm) (see Explanatory Note 3). For diameters under 0.0100 in

18、. (0.254 mm), the wireshall not vary from the specified diameter by more than plus and minus 0.0001 in. (0.0025 mm), and for diameters of 0.0100 in.(0.254 mm) and over the wire shall not vary from the specified diameter by more than plus and minus 1 %, expressed to the nearest0.0001 in. (or 0.001 mm

25、cewith the best commercial practice.5.5 FinishThe wire shall be free of all imperfections not consistent with the best commercial practice.6. Test Methods6.1 Tensile Strength and ElongationNo test for tensile strength shall be required.6.1.1 The elongation of wire with a nominal diameter greater tha

26、n 0.0808 in. (2.052 mm) shall be determined as the permanentincrease in length due to the breaking of the wire in tension (see Explanatory Note 4). The elongation shall be measured betweengage marks placed originally 10 in. (242 mm) apart upon the test specimen and expressed in percent of the origin

27、al length.6.1.2 The elongation of wire with a nominal diameter equal to or less than 0.0808 in. (2.053 mm) may be determined asdescribed above or by measurements made between the jaws of the testing machine. When measurements are made between thejaws, the zero length shall be the distance between th

28、e jaws at the start of the tension test and be as near 10 in. (254 mm) aspracticable. The final length shall be the distance between the jaws at the time of rupture. The fracture shall be between gage marksor jaws of the testing machine, depending on method used, and not closer than 1 in. (25.4 mm)

29、to either gage mark or jaw.6.2 ResistivityDetermine the electrical resistivity of the material in accordance with Test Method B193 (see Explanatory(Explanatory Note 5). The purchaser may accept certification that the wire was drawn from stock meeting the InternationalStandard for Annealed Copper ins

30、tead of resistivity tests on the finished wire.6.3 Dimensional MeasurementsMake dimensional measurements Dimensional measurements shall be made with a microm-eter caliper equipped with a vernier graduated in 0.0001 in. (or 0.001 mm). Take measurements (0.0025 mm). Measurements shallbe made on at lea

31、st three places on each unit selected for this test. If accessible, take one measurement shall be taken on each endand one near the middle. The average of the three measurements shall determine compliance with the requirements.6.4 Surface FinishMake a surface-finish inspection with the unaided eye (

32、normal spectacles acceptable).7. Inspection7.1 General (Explanatory Note 6 and Note 7)Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the manufacturershall be responsible for the performance of all inspection and test requirements specified.7.1.1 All inspections and tests shall be made

33、 at the place of manufacture unless otherwise especially agreed upon between themanufacturer and the purchaser at the time of purchase.7.1.2 The manufacturer shall afford the inspector representing the purchaser all reasonable manufacturers facilities to satisfyhim that the material is being furnish

34、ed in accordance with this specification.7.1.3 Unless otherwise agreed upon between the purchaser and the manufacturer, conformance of the wire to the variousrequirements listed in Section 5 shall be determined on samples taken from each lot of wire presented for acceptance.7.1.4 The manufacturer sh

35、all, if requested prior to inspection, certify that all wire in the lot was made under such conditionsthat the product as a whole conforms to the requirements of this specification as determined by regularly made and recorded tests.7.2 Definitions Applicable to Inspection:7.2.1 lot (Explanatory Note

36、 7)any amount of wire of one type and size presented for acceptance at one time, such amount,however, not to exceed 100 000 lb (45 000 kg).7.2.2 unit(s)coil(s), reel(s), or other put-up method which makes up the lot from a production unit of one size of wire.7.2.3 samplea quantity of production unit

37、s (coils, reels, and so forth) selected at random from the lot for the purpose ofdetermining conformance of the lot to the requirements of this specification.7.2.4 specimena length of wire removed for test purposes from any individual production unit of the sample.7.3 sample size (Explanatory Note 6

38、)The number of production units in a sample shall be as follows:7.3.1 For elongation and resistivity determinations, the sample shall consist of four production units. From each unit, one testspecimen of sufficient length shall be removed for the performance of the required tests.7.3.2 For dimension

39、al measurements, the sample shall consist of a quantity of production units shown in Table 2 under theheading “First Sample.”7.3.3 For surface-finish inspection and for packaging inspection (when specified by the purchaser at the time of placing theorder) the sample shall consist of a quantity of pr

40、oduction units shown in Table 3.8. Conformance Criteria (see Explanatory Note 6)8.1 Any lot of wire, the samples of which comply with the conformance criteria of this section, shall be considered as complyingwith the requirements of Section 5. Individual production units that fail to meet one or mor

41、e of the requirements shall be rejected.Failure of a sample group from a lot to meet one or more of the following criteria shall constitute cause for rejection of the lot.The conformance criteria for each of the prescribed properties given in Section 5 are as follows:B3 1338.1.1 ElongationThe lot sh

42、all be considered conforming if the average elongation of each of the fourselected specimens is notless than the appropriate elongation value in Table 1 plus 2.5 percentage points; however any individual production unit, thespecimen from which has an elongation less than the appropriate elongation v

43、alue in .Table 1, shall be rejected.7.1.1.1 The lot shall be considered to have failed to meet the elongation conformance criterion if the average of the fourspecimens is less than the elongation in Table 1 plus 2.5 percentage points and elongation of any of the individual specimens isless than the

44、value in Table 1.7.1.1.2 If the average of the four specimens is less than the elongation in Table 1 plus 2.5 percentage points and the elongationof each of the individual specimens is equal to or more than the value in Table 1, six additional specimens from six productionunits, other than the four

45、originally sampled shall be tested. The lot shall be considered conforming if the elongation of each ofthe ten specimens is not less than the appropriate elongation value in Table 1, and the average of the ten specimens is not less thanthat value plus 2.5 percentage points. The lot shall be consider

46、ed to have failed to meet the elongation requirement if any of theten specimens is less than the appropriate elongation value in Table 1 or if the average of the ten specimens is less than that valueplus 2.5 percentage points.8.1.2 ResistivityThe electrical resistivity of each of the four specimens

47、shall conform to the requirements of 5.35.2. Failureto meet these requirements shall constitute failure to meet the resistivity conformance criterion.8.1.3 DimensionsThe dimensions of the first sample (Table 2) shall conform to the requirements of 5.45.3. If there are nofailures, the lot conforms to

48、 this requirement. If there are failures but the number of these does not exceed the allowable defectnumber, c2 (Table 2), for the respective number of units in the sample, a second sample equal to n2 shall be taken and the totaldefects of the n1 plus n2 units shall not exceed the allowable defect n

49、umber, c2. Failure to meet this requirement shall constitutefailure to meet the dimensional conformationalconformance criterion.8.1.4 Surface FinishThe surface finish of the samples taken in accordance with Table 3 shall conform to the requirements of5.5. The number of units in the sample showing surface defects not consistent with commercial practice shall not exceed theallowable defect number, c, in Table 3. Failure to meet this requirement shall constitute failure to meet the surface-finishconformance criterion.8.1.5 PackagingConformance to t
