Materials4.1 The material shall be copper of such quality and puritythat the finished product shall have the properties and charac-teristics prescribed in this specification.NOTE 1Specification B49 defines copper suitable
10、for use.4.2 Copper bars of special qualities, forms, or types, as maybe agreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser,and which will conform to the requirements prescribed in thisspecification may also be used.5. General Requirements (see Section 8)5.1 Tensile Strength and ElongationThe wir
11、e shall con-form to the requirements for elongation prescribed in Table 1(see Explanatory Note 2). No requirements for tensile strengthare specified. For wire whose nominal diameter is more than0.001 in. (0.025 mm) greater than a size listed in Table 1, butless than that of the next larger size, the
12、 requirements of thenext larger size shall apply.5.2 ResistivityThe electrical resistivity at 20C shall notexceed 875.20 lb/mile2(0.15328 g/m2) (see ExplanatoryNote 5).5.3 Dimensions and Permissible VariationsThe wire sizesshall be expressed as the diameter of the wire in decimalfractions of an inch

(or 0.001 mm).5.4 JointsNecessary joints in the completed wire and inthe wire and rods prior to final drawing shall be made inaccordance with the best commercial practice.5.5 FinishThe wire shall be free of all imperfections notconsistent with the best
19、 commercial practice.6. Test Methods6.1 Tensile Strength and ElongationNo test for tensilestrength shall be required.6.1.1 The elongation of wire with a nominal diametergreater than 0.0808 in. (2.052 mm) shall be determined as thepermanent increase in length due to the breaking of the wire intension
20、 (see Explanatory Note 4). The elongation shall bemeasured between gage marks placed originally 10 in. (242mm) apart upon the test specimen and expressed in percent ofthe original length.6.1.2 The elongation of wire with a nominal diameter equalto or less than 0.0808 in. (2.053 mm) may be determined
21、 asdescribed above or by measurements made between the jaws ofthe testing machine. When measurements are made betweenthe jaws, the zero length shall be the distance between the jawsat the start of the tension test and be as near 10 in. (254 mm)as practicable. The final length shall be the distance b
22、etweenthe jaws at the time of rupture. The fracture shall be betweengage marks or jaws of the testing machine, depending onmethod used, and not closer than 1 in. (25.4 mm) to either gagemark or jaw.6.2 ResistivityDetermine the electrical resistivity of thematerial in accordance with Test Method B193

(0.0025 mm). Measurementsshall be made on at least three places on each unit selected forthis test. I
30、f accessible, one measurement shall be taken on eachend and one near the middle. The average of the threemeasurements shall determine compliance with the require-ments.6.4 Surface FinishMake a surface-finish inspection withthe unaided eye (normal spectacles acceptable).7. Inspection7.1 General (Expl
31、anatory Note 6 and Note 7)Unlessotherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, themanufacturer shall be responsible for the performance of allinspection and test requirements specified.7.1.1 All inspections and tests shall be made at the place ofmanufacture unless otherwise especially agreed
32、 upon betweenthe manufacturer and the purchaser at the time of purchase.7.1.2 The manufacturer shall afford the inspector represent-ing the purchaser all reasonable manufacturers facilities tosatisfy him that the material is being furnished in accordancewith this specification.7.1.3 Unless otherwise
33、 agreed upon between the purchaserand the manufacturer, conformance of the wire to the variousrequirements listed in Section 5 shall be determined on samplestaken from each lot of wire presented for acceptance.7.1.4 The manufacturer shall, if requested prior toinspection, certify that all wire in th
34、e lot was made under suchconditions that the product as a whole conforms to therequirements of this specification as determined by regularlymade and recorded tests.7.2 Definitions Applicable to Inspection:7.2.1 lot (Explanatory Note 7)any amount of wire of onetype and size presented for acceptance a
35、t one time, suchamount, however, not to exceed 100 000 lb (45 000 kg).7.2.2 unit(s)coil(s), reel(s), or other put-up method whichmakes up the lot from a production unit of one size of wire.7.2.3 samplea quantity of production units (coils, reels,and so forth) selected at random from the lot for the
36、purpose ofdetermining conformance of the lot to the requirements of thisspecification.7.2.4 specimena length of wire removed for test purposesfrom any individual production unit of the sample.7.3 sample size (Explanatory Note 6)The number ofproduction units in a sample shall be as follows:7.3.1 For
37、elongation and resistivity determinations, thesample shall consist of four production units. From each unit,one test specimen of sufficient length shall be removed for theperformance of the required tests.7.3.2 For dimensional measurements, the sample shall con-sist of a quantity of production units
38、 shown in Table 2 underthe heading “First Sample.”7.3.3 For surface-finish inspection and for packaging in-spection (when specified by the purchaser at the time of placingthe order) the sample shall consist of a quantity of productionunits shown in Table 3.8. Conformance Criteria (see Explanatory No
39、te 6)8.1 Any lot of wire, the samples of which comply with theconformance criteria of this section, shall be considered ascomplying with the requirements of Section 5. Individualproduction units that fail to meet one or more of the require-ments shall be rejected. Failure of a sample group from a lo
40、t tomeet one or more of the following criteria shall constitutecause for rejection of the lot. The conformance criteria for eachof the prescribed properties given in Section 5 are as follows:8.1.1 ElongationThe lot shall be considered conforming ifthe elongation of each of the selected specimens is
41、not less thanthe elongation value in Table 1.8.1.2 ResistivityThe electrical resistivity of each of thefour specimens shall conform to the requirements of 5.2.Failure to meet these requirements shall constitute failure tomeet the resistivity conformance criterion.8.1.3 DimensionsThe dimensions of th
42、e first sample(Table 2) shall conform to the requirements of 5.3. If there areno failures, the lot conforms to this requirement. If there arefailures but the number of these does not exceed the allowabledefect number, c2(Table 2), for the respective number of unitsin the sample, a second sample equa

Failure to meet this requirementshall constitute failure to meet the dimensional conformancecriterion.8.1.4 Surface FinishThe surface finish of the samplestaken in accordance with Table
