Scope1.1 This specification covers aluminum 1350-H19 (extrah

3、ard), 1350-H16 or -H26 (n hard), 1350-H14 or -H24 (12hard) and 1350-H142 or -H242 (12 hard) bare compact-roundconcentric-lay-stranded conductors made from round or shapedwires for use as uninsulated electrical conductors or in coveredor insulated electrical conductors. These conductors shall becompo

4、sed of a central core surrounded by one or more roller ordie compacted layers of helically applied wires (ExplanatoryNote 1 and Note 2).1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents;

5、 therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.NOTE 1Prior to 1975, aluminum 1350 was designated as ECaluminum.NOTE 2The aluminum and temper designations conform to ANSIStandard H35.1. 9、or the purpose of this specification, conductors areclassified as follows:3.1.1 Class AAFor bare conductors usually used in over-head lines.3.1.2 Class AFor conductors to be covered with weather-resistant materials, and for bare conductors where greaterflexibility than is afforded by Class AA is req

Conductorsindicated for further fabrication into tree wire or to be insulatedand laid helically with or around aluminum or ACSRmessengers, shall be regarded as Class A conductors withrespect to direction of lay only (see 6.3).3.1.3 Class BFor conductors to be insulated with variousmaterials s

11、uch as rubber, paper, varnished cloth, and so forth,and for the conductors indicated under Class A where greaterflexibility is required.4. Joints5.1 1350-H19 Conductors for Use in Bare Overhead Lines:5.1.1 Joints may be made in the six outer wires of seven-strand conductors by cold-pressure welding or by electric-butt,

17、cold-upset welding, but not by electric-butt welding. Joints arenot permitted in the finished center wire of seven-strandedconductors.5.1.2 Joints may be made in any of the wires in conductorsof 18 or more wires by electric-butt welding, cold-pressurewelding, or electric butt, cold-upset welding.5.1

18、.3 The minimum distance between a wire joint andanother joint either in the same wire or in other wires of thecompleted conductor shall be 50 ft 15 m.5.2 Conductors of All Tempers to Be Insulated or Covered:5.2.1 Joints may be made in any of the wires of anystranding by electric-butt welding, cold-p

29、a stranded conductoras a whole.6. Lay6.1 The length of lay or each layer for Classes AA and Ashall be not less than 11 nor more than 17.5 times the outsidediameter of that layer.6.2 The length of lay of the outer layer for Class B shall benot less than 8 nor more than 16 times the outside diameter o

30、fthe completed conductor, except that for sizes No. 2 AWG33.6 mm2 and smaller, the maximum length of lay shall benot more than 17.5 times the outside diameter of the completedconductor.6.3 The direction of lay of the outer layer shall be right-handfor Classes AA and A, and it shall be reversed in su

31、ccessivelayers. For Class A stranding where the conductors are to beinsulated and laid helically with or around aluminum or ACSRmessengers, the stranding lay direction may be unidirectionalor unilay in successive layers.6.4 The direction of lay of the outer layer shall be left-handfor Class B, and i

32、t shall be reversed in successive layers,unidirectional, or unilay.6.5 Other lay requirements may be furnished by specialagreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser.7. Construction7.1 The construction of the conductors shall be as shown inTable 1 as to number of wires and cross-sectional ar

33、ea of thecompleted conductor, and the lay shall be in accordance withSection 6.7.2 Wire used in the fabrication of conductor shall be ofsuch dimensions as to produce a finished conductor having anominal cross-sectional area and diameter as prescribed inTable 1.8. Rated Strength of Conductor8.1 The r

34、ated strength of 1350-H19 conductors shall betaken as the percentage, indicated in Table 2, of the sum of thestrengths of the component wires, calculated on the basis of thenominal wire diameter for the corresponding noncompactedconstruction given in Specification B231/B231M and thespecified minimum

35、 average tensile strength given in Specifi-cation B230/B230M for 1350-H19 wire. A value of 0.13433.41 mm shall be used for the nominal wire diameter for the1100 kcmil compacted construction.8.2 Calculations for rated strengths of 1350-H16, -H26,-H14, -H24, -H142, and -H242 conductors shall be made o

36、nthe basis of the strengths of the component wires using thenominal wire diameter for the noncompacted constructiongiven in Specification B231/B231M and the specified maxi-mum and minimum tensile strengths for the appropriate temperof the respective component wires given in SpecificationB609/B609M.

37、The minimum rated strengths of the conductorsshall be taken as the sum of the calculated minimum strengthsof the component wires multiplied by the rating factor given inTable 2. The maximum rated strength of the conductors shallbe taken as the sum of the calculated maximum strengths of thecomponent

38、wires. A value of 0.1343 3.41 mm shall be usedfor the nominal wire diameter for the 1100 kcmil compactedconstruction.8.3 Rated-strength and breaking-strength values shall berounded to three significant figures, in the final value only, inaccordance with the rounding method of Practice E29.8.4 Rated

39、strengths of conductors are given in Table 3.9. Density9.1 For the purpose of calculating mass, linear density, crosssections, and so forth, the density of aluminum 1350 shall betaken as 2705 kg/m3(0.0975 lb/in.3) at 20C.10. Mass and Electrical Resistance10.1 The mass and electrical resistance of a

40、unit length ofstranded conductor are a function of the length of lay. Theapproximate mass and electrical resistance may be determinedusing an increment of 2 %. When greater accuracy is desired,the increment based on the specific lay of the conductor may becalculated (Explanatory Note 1).10.2 The max

41、imum electrical resistance of a unit length ofstranded conductor shall not exceed the nominal dc resistance(Table 1) +2 % (Explanatory Note 1).10.2.1 When the dc resistance is measured at other than20C, it is to corrected by using the multiplying factor given inTable 4.10.3 For conductors to be used

42、 in covered or insulated wiresor cables, direct current (DC) resistance measurement may beused instead of the method outlined in Section 14 to determinecompliance with this specification.11. Mechanical and Electrical Tests of ConductorsFabricated from Wires other than 1350-H26, -H24, or-H242 and Ann

43、ealed after Stranding to Meet 1350-H26, -H24, or -H242 Requirements11.1 The completed conductor shall be tested as a unit. Theminimum breaking strength of bare conductors shall be not lessthan minimum rated strength if failure occurs in the free lengthat least 1 in. 25 mm beyond the end of either gr

45、 the end of eithergripping device. The maximum breaking strength of 1350-H26, -H24, or -H242 conductors shall be not greater than theirmaximum rated strengths. The free length between grips of thetest specimen shall be not less than 24 in. 600 mm, and careshall be taken to ensure that the wires in t

46、he conductor areevenly gripped during the test (Section 8 and Explanatory Note3).12. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance12.1 The conductor shall be clean and free from imperfec-tions not consistent with good commercial practice.13. Requirements of Wires13.1 Before stranding and compacting, the round

47、 wire usedshall meet the requirements of Specifications B230/B230M orB609/B609M, whichever is applicable.13.2 Wire shaped before stranding shall meet the require-ments of the appropriate specification listed in 13.1 except fortensile and elongation requirements and diameter tolerance.For 1350-H19 te

48、mper, the minimum tensile and elongationrequirements shall be 96 % of those for round wire of the samenominal area, provided the completed conductor is capable ofmeeting the requirements of Sections 8 and 17. For 1350-H16or -H26, 1350-H14 or -H24, and 1350-H142 or -H242, thetensile requirements shal

49、l be the same as those for round wiresof equal nominal area. The area tolerances for shaped wire ofall tempers shall be such that the finished conductor conformsto Section 14.14.
